Chapter 39: Sirius Bureau!

[Consume 1000 Bloodstars to plunder blue Talent: Undying Body?]

"Yes."

Joren gave the answer in his mind.

The command fell, and the 1000 Bloodstars he had just earned vanished before they even had time to warm in his hands.

[Plunder successful!]

[Obtained blue Talent: Undying Body]

[Entry Description: As long as your heart and brain are not destroyed at the same time, you are an undying ghost on the battlefield. Injury recovery speed increases by 500 percent. Severed limbs can regrow, but require a large amount of Vital Force. Your cells are extremely active, granting very high resistance to toxins and radiation.]

[Effects]

[Organ Redundancy: Removes fatal weak point judgment from the heart, lungs, and throat. Attacks to these areas only reduce health and do not cause instant death.]

[Injury Recovery: Consume Vital Force to recover from injuries.]

"Perfect."

Joren drew in a breath.

This was a real divine skill.

Moves he had never dared to trade with, he could trade now.

Wounds he had never dared to take, he could take now.

As long as he was not killed in one hit, he could grind an opponent down until they died.

"Joren?"

Kaia’s voice trembled behind him.

What exactly was that slash just now?

Too many questions crowded her throat. In the end, only a powerless sigh came out.

"Just luck."

Joren shrugged, spun the Black Gold blade once in his hand, and slid it back into the sheath.

Then the air raid siren screamed across the entire northern defense line.

Wooo!

This alarm was different from every one before it.

The highest level red alert.

It would only sound when the defense line was on the verge of total collapse, or when a threat capable of destroying the city had appeared.

Kaia pressed a hand to the communicator at her ear.

"This is Kaia! What happened?"

Static crackled through the channel. Behind it came terrified shouting.

"Retreat! Full retreat!"

"The intelligence was wrong! Repeat, the intelligence was wrong!"

"They have gone mad!"

...

Norcrest, northern defense line central command.

In front of the enormous holographic sand table, the air felt heavy enough to turn into water.

Dozens of staff officers were striking their keyboards with sweat running down their faces. Lines of blood red error messages flooded the screens.

At the front stood Manester, supreme commander of the Norcrest defense line, a peak Rank Five Awakened Warrior.

His eyes were fixed on the dense red dots covering the main screen. Both hands gripped the edge of the command table, knuckles white from force.

"Still no contact with Altair Directorate?"

"Report! Altair Directorate replied that the magnetic field around Norcrest has been blocked by some high level Voidbeast. Satellite signals are intermittent. They cannot obtain accurate images."

The communications officer’s voice shook as he spoke.

"Useless!"

Manester slammed a fist onto the table.

"Who made the earlier reconnaissance report? Who told me there were only ten Rank Four lords?"

He pointed at the crimson region on the screen and roared,

"Open your damn eyes and look! Does that look like ten?"

On the screen, behind the tide of low level Voidbeasts, nearly twenty huge red light points were moving fast, crushing toward the northern defense line with unstoppable momentum.

Every red dot represented one Rank Four Voidbeast.

And judging from the energy fluctuations, at least three of them had reached peak Rank Four.

Worse.

There were three Rank Five beast kings.

This was not a Beast Tide.

This was a planned, organized war of extermination aimed at Norcrest.

"Commander, every sector is requesting support!"

"Heavy artillery ammunition is running low!"

"Western defense line estimated to collapse in seven minutes!"

Bad news kept coming.

Manester drew in a breath and forced his mind down from the edge.

Conventional forces could not stop this.

Antares Command was elite, but against this many high level Voidbeasts, even they were only a cup of water thrown onto a burning city.

Without extreme measures, Norcrest’s northern district would not survive the night.

"No choice."

A hard light passed through Manester’s eyes.

He turned to the adjutant behind him and said in a low voice,

"Contact Sirius Bureau."

Within the structure of the Alkaid Authority, Antares Command was the regular army. Discipline. Coordination. Formation.

Sirius Bureau was something else.

Lone wolves outside the rules.

They killed only the strongest Voidbeasts and took only the most expensive resources.

The threshold to enter Sirius Bureau was terrifyingly high. A person needed a record of killing above rank, and also the ability to survive alone in a hopeless situation.

Across the entire Norcrest branch, Antares Command had several thousand members.

Sirius Bureau had only one.

A true killing machine.

The last hidden card of Norcrest Alkaid Authority.

The adjutant hesitated.

"People from Sirius Bureau... do not have good tempers. And according to regulations, unless this is a city destroying crisis, we have no authority to directly order them."

"This is the damn city destroying crisis!"

Manester roared.

"If those twenty Rank Four Voidbeasts rush in, how many of us do you think will be left alive?"

"As long as he can stop those lord class Voidbeasts, I will give him every bit of Military Merit I have earned in my life!"

Just then, a radar operator suddenly rose from his seat, surprise breaking through his voice.

"R report, Commander!"

Manester snapped his head around.

"What?"

The operator pointed at the edge of the screen.

A purple light point was closing in on the core war zone at an astonishing speed.

"The signal source from Sirius Bureau has appeared on the outer ring!"

"He is already moving!"

"Switch the feed!"

Amid the wild sand and the Beast Tide, a solitary figure was moving against the current.

A dark red coat.

An enormous greatsword with an exaggerated shape strapped to his back.

Wherever he passed, Voidbeasts did not even dare to approach. They retreated to both sides in terror.

Like Moses parting the sea.

"It is Lord Kyo!"

Someone recognized the figure and cried out.

The only Sirius Bureau member in Norcrest.

Peak Rank Five powerhouse.

Kyo.
