Chapter 159: Expensive New Weapon

Quinn wasn’t the kind of person to receive any forms of physical affection. In fact, the last time he remembered getting a hug was back when he was 4 years old in a supermarket, so to suddenly find himself getting embraced by a person whom he barely knew was certainly uncomfortable.

"Um... Vorden?" Quinn tried bringing up, only to get squeezed harder.

’Any tighter, and I think my bones might pop!’

That was when the teacher ran over, and looked over the two students.

"Are you two okay?" She asked.

"Vorden" remained silent, but Quinn stared at her with pleading eyes, and mouthed ’save me.’

Merah crouched down to "Vorden’s" level and began speaking in a soft voice, "What can I do to help?"

"Vorden" loosened his hug, and slightly turned his head towards Merah. He was still silent.

"What are you feeling?"

"Vorden’s" tears continued to fall.

"... Are you unable to speak?" She asked.

"Vorden" nodded, and she hummed, understanding.

Internally, Vorden and Raten were watching the little one on the chair, and Vorden walked up to him cautiously.

"... Can I have the chair back?"

While he didn’t speak outwardly, the little one replied to them internally.

"You guys were hurting him—"he sobbed, "I needed to protect him. You were going to break him!"

"That wasn’t me, that was Raten!" Vorden pointed at the person in question.

"What!? I was trying to train him, you gave me permission!" Raten shot back.

The little one sobbed even harder, and Raten and Vorden awkwardly stared at each other, unable to do anything.

Back outside, "Vorden’s" sobbing grew so intense, he fully let go of Quinn, and fell to the floor.

Even though he didn’t know him that well, Quinn couldn’t help but feel awful, like he was somehow responsible for this.

"Don’t worry, I’ll deal with him," Merah said, "I’ll send him to Hayley after I calm him down, and I’ll keep you updated."

Quinn paused, but nodded. He got up, and turned around to leave, but hesitated. There was something telling him that he should stay and help, but he didn’t know how. Before he could take a few steps forward, "Vorden" started sobbing even louder.

Turning around, he could see the taller boy reach out to him.

’Damn, I don’t want to just leave him like that,’ He thought to himself, ’I’ll just tell Erin that me and Vorden can’t make it today.’

He returned back to "Vorden’s" side, and saw he had calmed down a little with his presence. Quinn didn’t know what was going on with him, and it really did seem like he had some strange mood swings, but he did know that he could at least help.

When searching through the student market, there was a specific bow Layla wanted to find. It was one she saw during her first trip here, and she really wanted to get it. Unfortunately, she didn’t have the money, but she was hoping that Erin would be willing to split the bill.

Turning a corner, she saw it, the same gorgeous, beautiful compound bow. It had golden blocky feathers where the limb pockets were, and royal purple limbs that were sharply tipped in the same golden color. The grip was a regal red, and so was a little leather notch where the arrow would get placed on the string.

Lastly, there was a bright orange tag on it with a hefty price worthy of a king tier bow.

’With how expensive it is, it’s no wonder no one bought it until now,’ Layla thought, then she smirked, ’But that changes today.’

Honestly, she thought it might’ve been underpriced, but she thought she could pair it with beast arrows and deal some serious damage.

She headed up to the vendor and pointed at the bow in question, "How much does it cost?"

The boy running the stand had obnoxiously parted hair, like having a single strand out of line was somehow a deeply sinister crime. He took one glance at Layla’s watch, and scoffed, "Do you think someone like you could afford this?"

Layla glared at him, "Of course I can, idiot."

The boy loudly laughed at her, then abruptly stopped and shooed her off with his hand.

"Go on, go away. You’re getting in the way of all my real customers."

Clenching her fists, Layla couldn’t help but growl a little, and licked her lips.

’Someone like him doesn’t deserve to live.’

She turned around, ready to accept defeat, only to find Erin standing right there.

"Was he bothering you, Layla?" She crossed her arms.

Layla deeply frowned, and she knew the answer.

The boy running the stand was looking at a mirror, combing his hair, when he suddenly heard a hand slam his table.

He turned around, and began shouting, "I’m not selling—!" when he saw the most beautiful, gorgeous girl standing in front of him. Immediately, he corrected his posture, and smiled.

"Well, uh, hello beautiful, find anything here that catches your fancy?" He wiggled his eyebrows.

Erin stared deeply in his eyes as she slowly pushed his table down using her vampiric strength. The metal creaked loudly, creating a visible dent in the center of it.

The vein on his forehead nearly burst, and his face grew red, "You bitch, what the hell is that for? Pay up right now!"

He flashed his watch showcasing the number 6 on it, but Erin was not the least bit impressed. Instead, she continued to stare into his eyes, now glowing red.

"You need to pay the ’being a turd’ tax," she commanded, and the boy was entranced in her beauty.

"...Uh... Yes ma’am... What will it... It cost...?" he spoke woozily.

Erin turned towards the bow, and pointed at it, "This will suffice."

Still enthralled, he handed the bow to her, and Erin commanded he would forget this moment.

Now one bow richer, she walked away, and gifted it to Layla. She practically beamed in excitement, stars in her eyes.

"Thank you so much, Erin!" Layla smiled, then squealed, hugging the weapon, "Oh, this bow is so beautiful!"

Watching Layla be so happy brought the tiniest bit of warmth to Erin’s heart.

’That bow will protect her,’ she thought.

After rubbing her face on the bow, Layla stopped, realizing what she had done in front of Erin. Her face turned beet red in embarrassment, and quickly hid it behind her body as if she hadn’t done all of that.

"So..." Layla cleared her throat, "If you don’t mind, can you use that one skill of yours? Appraise it if you will. With it being king tier, the boosts on it must be crazy good!"

She moved the bow back into Erin’s vision, and, opening the system skills, began to inspect its full capabilities.
