Chapter 148: An Unhealable Wound
The moment Leo had to pull Vorden off of Erin, they gathered the attention of all the students in the class..
"You will sit this lesson out, and we will have a discussion about this after class," Leo scolded.
Inside of their mind, Vorden was scrambling to get back on the seat.
"What the hell was that about?!" Vorden shouted.
"We were sparring, can’t I spar?" Raten shot back.
Vorden growled, "We’re not on the island, they’re not like them."
Vorden took the chair back, but Raten brooded off to the side, crossing his arms.
"Somehow, she was just as strong as us, and faster," he muttered.
On the outside, Vorden closed his eyes, then opened them again.
"I’m sorry, I got too carried away," Vorden bowed.
Leo squinted his eyes. With his ability, he was able to detect a shift in the boy’s aura the moment he started apologizing. There was a radical change in his emotional profile as well.
’This class seems to attract all sorts of strangely shaped auras,’ Leo pondered.
Fex and Layla were off to the side, watching as Vorden was taken to a corner of the room, and sat alone on a chair.
"Yeesh, what’s up with him?" Fex commented, pausing his spar to watch the commotion.
Layla, meanwhile, wiped some sweat off her forehead. Due to Fex’s surprising knowledge of martial arts, she wasn’t expecting to get pushed as much as she did.
"I hope Erin’s okay, but..." Layla began, but there was a strange sensation she felt, one where there was a sense of distress.
’Is that my family connection to her?’
Erin got off the ground, and dusted herself off. She had to talk to Quinn about this.
Sitting against the wall with a water bottle was Quinn, who was told to sit out on today’s lesson until he recovered. Due to being used for demonstration earlier, a lot of his energy was used up, and Leo didn’t think it fair for him to spar while exhausted.
{Erin} You saw the message, right?
{Erin} Do you have any theories as to what caused it?
{Quinn} It could be an ability. Didn’t it say that his ability was "copy"?
{Quinn} This is just a guess, but what if he copied an ability, and used it on you?
"No, I believe there is more to it than just an ability," The system explained, "This system is able to block most abilities, but it was odd that it didn’t block it. It makes me think there’s something else to this entirely."
Whatever it was, there was definitely something very strange about this new student.
Layla ran up to Erin, "Are you alright?"
Erin eyed Vorden, "He packed a heavy punch, a bit too heavy. If what he did affected me, then it will affect you."
Layla stared at Vorden, who sat there with a blank expression alongside their teacher. For some reason, she felt a subtle urge to get back at him for hurting Erin.
"Hmm..." she pondered, briefly considering if she was capable of beating him in a fight.
After Leo was done with Vorden, he came up to Erin, "I will need to talk to you after class as well. I sense something has happened to your energy."
—
After class, Quinn, Fex and Layla were on their way back to the boy’s dorm room as Layla was getting hungry again. The animal meat she ate recently wasn’t lasting as long as it could’ve.
The entire time on their way back, Layla kept thinking about today’s class. Worry plagued her mind about Erin’s well being.
Suddenly, Fex smiled as he placed his hands behind his head, "You’re in luck, Layla, cause Fex Feeds has twice the stock in store today."
The sudden comment took Layla out of her thoughts, and both her and Quinn stared at him as if he suddenly grew two heads.
"Did you make a human reference to food delivery?" Quinn questioned.
Fex nodded, looking very proud of himself, "And what about it? I can give Layla two hands now for the price of one."
Layla facepalmed, dragging her hand down, "Can we talk about something else?"
"Sure," Fex awkwardly cleared his throat, "I heard that you and Erin experienced some sort of headache, right?"
Layla’s eyes widened, "You know what it means?"
Interlocking his fingers together, except for his index and thumb, Fex was trying to figure out the best way to explain it.
"So... Erin had done her thing with you," Fex began, trying to keep it vague from any prying ears.
Instantly, Layla’s face turned red.
"Who told you that!?"
Fex blinked, then grew red himself, "No, that’s not what I— Wait, she did what?"
Layla frantically waved her hands, trying to clear her mind, "Nope, nuh uh, not into that kind of thing— We just held hands—"
Quinn was similarly blushing. He didn’t know what they were talking about, but he was getting visibly uncomfortable. When it came to subjects like this, he was an absolute stranger to them, and he definitely didn’t want to hear about Layla’s experience on that matter.
"Um... Can we talk about Erin instead?" Quinn suggested, wanting to change the topic.
Fex nodded, "Sure, like how she got beaten up by the new guy?"
"No, there was something wrong with her healing," Layla pointed out, "I can’t help but get concerned about what happened."
"Fex, has this happened before to vampires?" Quinn asked.
"Hmm, not really?" Fex thought about it, "There was this one family back home that had the ability to stop one’s healing, as well as MC and stuff, but the new guy wasn’t a vampire, so there’s no way he should’ve been able to use that."
"I don’t think it was an ability, I was watching them fight," Quinn explained, "and Leo said not to use abilities."
Fex scoffed, "Well the guy’s blind. How is he supposed to know if we use an ability or not? Sure, he somehow knew my secret, but that’s different. Anyways, Erin should be fine. She’s come back from worse."
Quinn thought otherwise, because in his vision, he could see that Erin’s health remained the same.

[Erin Heley’s healing has been disrupted]
—
Inside of the beast weapons class, both Erin and Vorden sat next to each other in front of Leo, who appeared to be staring them down, but Erin knew better. They all sat in silence, ruminating on their thoughts.
Internally, Erin was troubled, ’Even though I tried using blood bank on my injuries so far, they still haven’t healed. Just how long will this strange affliction last?’
Meanwhile, Vorden was giving Raten an earful.
"We were supposed to lay low, and you just went ahead and did all of that," Vorden mentally shouted.
"I said I was sorry!" Raten yelled back.
After a few agonizing seconds, Leo finally spoke.
"Vorden, two things. One, you were using too much qi against my student, Erin here, and two, how did you learn about qi?"
Erin’s eyes widened. It was the first time she had ever heard about qi, and made her wonder if that was what happened to her.
’System, do you know about qi?’
"No, this is the first time I’m hearing about it," The system replied.
It appeared that Vorden was in the same boat, as he looked just as confused.
"I’m sorry for going too far, but... What is qi?"
Leo’s mouth slightly opened, then closed. He nodded, now understanding the situation, "If you don’t know what qi is, and you used that much, then you need to learn qi control."
