Chapter 490: We’re Very Passionate Here
Sighing, Sei sat down on the sofa with her father after all of the morning’s antics.
Kenji was busy trying to learn English with the help of Camille. She assisted him by pointing out the words and saying their Japanese counterpart. The old man then did his best to commit it to memory and repeat it aloud.
When Sei sits down, their studying is briefly halted.
"Oh, please don’t mind me. I don’t mean to interrupt." Sei said politely.
Her father dismisses her concerns with a wave of his hand. "No, no. We were just about to take a break. The little one is quite the dedicated teacher."
Camille smiles proudly as she stands up to pat her grandfather on the head.
"You’re getting there, Grandpa. I am proud of you."
Kenji’s face unconsciously tightens as he feels slightly patronized.
Sei laughs nervously as she takes her daughter into her arms.
"A-Anyway... Sorry that things were so hectic around here earlier, Dad... I promise that things aren’t normally like this."
"Yes, they are." Camille looks up at her mother.
"...You are just full of things to say today, aren’t you?" Sei inserts a nearby macaroon into her daughter’s mouth. Camille, thankful for the bribe, lets out a pleased noise as she chews.
"A-As I was saying.." Sei smiled at her father. "I swear, things around here are usually much more-"
Suddenly, the trio hears a door slam down the hallway, followed by the sound of arguing.
Kenji could only grasp around every third word or so, but he could tell by the tone of the conversation that it was rather heated.
"I said no!"
"And I said I wasn’t asking!"
"Would you just listen to me for once in your god damn life!?"
"I listen to you all the time!! But you’re my husband, not my fucking father, so I don’t have to just sit in the house and wait around just because you tell me to!"
"That’s not what this is about, it’s just fucking dangerous!"
Malachi storms into the kitchen with Anna right on his heels. She grabs him by the wrist before he can continue walking away from her.
"Oh, so you’re the only one in this family whose allowed to run into danger??"
"No, but this is Hell we’re talking about! I don’t know if you’ll be able to come out, and I don’t know what’ll happen if one of these demon bastards smells you!"
"I’ll stay beside you!"
Malachi was on the verge of pulling out his hair. "Why won’t you let this go!?"
"Because you’re not the only one who gets worried, asshole! Rather than wait around, hoping you come back like some damsel, I’d rather go and make sure you don’t fucking disappear again!"
Anna’s eyes were beginning to sting. Her fists fell on Malachi’s chest like hammers.
"What’s not getting through to your thick, fucking head! I love you, you ass!! I don’t want anything to happen to you, so at least if I’m with you, I can have your ba-"
Malachi suddenly wrapped his arms around Anna’s waist and pulled her in close.
The kiss is heated and possessive. Anna releases a small whimper into the mouth of her husband as she fully leans into his embrace.
She wraps her arms around his neck as they become lost in time and space.
When they eventually come up for air, they meet each other’s gazes with remorseful expressions.
"...I-I’m sorry."
"So am I..."
Malachi kisses her again, and the embrace is even sweeter than the first time.
"..."
Kenji slowly turns to Sei.
His daughter does a poor job of hiding her embarrassment.
"We’re just... a very passionate household." Sei said with a nervous smile.
Kenji’s expression is neutral, and his eyes are nigh impossible to read. "Mmh."
Sei wanted to curl into a ball and hide her face forever.
She didn’t know how to tell her father that it was a common occurrence just now. The week before, Anna and Luna had a similar argument that ended with them occupying the stairs for an hour.
Even Camille no longer reacted to the noise as she crawled out of her mother’s lap and rushed over to her other parents.
"Where are you guys going?? Can I go??"
""No!""
Camille poked out her lip adorably.
Feeling guilty, Malachi kneeled in front of his daughter and ruffled her hair.
"Look, munchkin... I can’t let you come with Mom and me this time it’s too dangerous."
Camille’s pout only became bigger.
"...Okay, how about this. If you be patient and wait at home then I’ll let you watch that horror movie Sei says you can’t see."
"Umm, excuse me?!" Sei stood up from the couch with her arms folded.
"Really?!?" Camille jumped up and down, her eyes as big as saucers and as glittery as stars. "The one about the leprechaun, right??"
"Sure thing, babydoll."
"YAYY!!" Camille jumped at her father and hugged his neck tight enough to suffocate him.
Smiling, Malachi sent her off back to her grandfather as Sei came to stand in front of her husband.
Her arms were folded across her chest. "Malachi. Jadou. Saint."
Mal winced. That was the first time he’d heard his wife say his name like it left a bad taste in her mouth.
On the other hand, Anna had heard Sei’s voice sound like this many times. She’d actually started to get off on it.
"Before you say anything... I just want to remind you that she’ll probably only watch two minutes of it before she asks to cut it off."
"At which point she’ll be so scared that she has to sleep in our bed for the rest of the week."
Malachi looked at his wife as if he couldn’t help but adore her. His lips bent in a quiet smile. "I don’t mind that. Anything for our kids, right?"
Sei became weak-kneed. She loved her husband’s face, his smile, and body, but she especially loved the way he spoke about their children.
She shifted her weight on her feet and lowered her gaze.
"I... really can’t stand you sometimes."
"Even when I promise to make it up to you?" Malachi drew closer.
Sei bit her lip slightly before punching him in the stomach. It hurt about as much as being shot with a cotton swab.
"...Just... make sure you both get back safely. Take care of each other, you hear me?"
Malachi and Anna nodded furiously.
Unable to stay mad at them, Sei leaned forward and kissed them both. Her level of worry was immense, but she did not have it in her to tell them not to go. All she could do was trust that they would come back.
"..."
Kenji turned his head away from the scene in the kitchen and glanced at his granddaughter as she filled out a coloring book.
"You say it’s like this... all the time?"
