Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Chaos

Chapter 65: Chaos

Shingo Tsunayashiro opened his eyes. In the next moment, a pale green light illuminated his face.

"One thousand seven hundred and ninety seconds." The powerful gatekeeper nodded slightly.

"Very good, 3rd Seat Uchiha. You did not put me in a difficult position."

"Thank you for your hard work." Yato smiled at him, then picked up his Zanpakuto—which was sealed within the Bakudo—and walked straight out of the underground facility.

Upon returning to his barracks, he immediately closed the door and began reviewing the intelligence he had gathered today.

The Tsunayashiro family had a tradition of traveling to Hueco Mundo and the World of the Living. The gatekeeper of the Great Spirit Book Gallery seemed set to leave the Soul Society for a period of time, but there was a high probability that a powerful member of the clan would take his place on rotation...

Yato thought back to that middle-aged Tsunayashiro. Even without exchanging blows, he could confirm that the gatekeeper’s Reiatsu was significantly stronger than his own.

At least in terms of Reiatsu, the gatekeeper possessed power bordering on Captain level.

However, this was within Yato’s expectations. For a place as critical as the Great Spirit Book Gallery, and a position as vital as the gatekeeper, it made perfect sense for the Tsunayashiro clan to dispatch their absolute top-tier powerhouses.

Therefore, with my current Reiatsu level, my three-tomoe illusions probably won’t be able to control him.

Thinking this, Yato closed his eyes again, sketching the gatekeeper’s appearance in his mind.

Thick lips, a full head of hair, a broad forehead and wide nose... the color of his pupils skewed gray.

After a long while, the boy ended his thoughts. While stroking the tsuba of Akame, he recalled the knowledge he had acquired within the Great Spirit Book Gallery.

The wisdom of his predecessors could help him avoid many detours.

Furthermore, it wasn’t just knowledge housed there, but also a wealth of precious intelligence and truths.

From whichever angle he considered it, he had to find a way to visit a place like the Great Spirit Book Gallery a few more times.

...

Half a month later.

"What?"

Inside the 3rd Seat’s office of the 12th Division, Yato Uchiha looked up, staring in displeasure at the squad member kneeling before him on one knee:

"What do you mean, requesting me to dispatch personnel to the Rukongai? Shouldn’t tasks like this be the responsibility of the 3rd or 5th Division?"

"Yes, you are absolutely right, Lord Uchiha," the 10th Division squad member wiped a cold sweat from his brow, hastily explaining:

"But although the 3rd Division has already sent people over, we are still short on manpower. As for the situation with the 5th Division, you are aware of it as well. A while ago, Lord Shunsuke Kurokawa..."

"Alright, alright," Yato Uchiha waved his hand dismissively.

"No need to play the pity card in front of me. I accept your request. However, the vast majority of our division are researchers who can’t go to the frontlines... I’ll go take a look myself."

Getting cooped up in the office was becoming annoying anyway; getting some fresh air would be good.

"Ah? This! Truly, thank you so much, Lord Uchiha!"

The 10th Division squad member was overjoyed. His eyes reddened, looking as if he were about to burst into tears.

The boy sighed internally, feeling somewhat sympathetic.

These past days, the 10th Division had truly been having a rough time.

Their former Captain, Shintaro Arima, had died in Hueco Mundo, yet the candidate for the new Captain had been delayed indefinitely. The Shiba family hadn’t issued any statements, maintaining a bizarre, unsettling silence.

Under these circumstances, Lieutenant Isshin Shiba was struggling to hold the division together, causing his subordinates to run themselves ragged as well. At the slightest sign of a difficult problem, they had to request backup.

The 3rd Division, which was specialized in providing backup, did dispatch reinforcements according to regulations, but they lacked the capacity to fully plug the holes.

As for the chaos in the 5th Division, the disappearance of their 3rd Seat, Shunsuke Kurokawa, had sent Shinji Hirako into a towering rage. The division had conducted several internal purges to weed out a presumed spy, leaving everyone on edge and terrified for their own safety. They simply had no time to worry about other divisions.

Yato Uchiha knew very well that the poor bastard Shunsuke Kurokawa had most likely already been murdered by Gin Ichimaru.

He put down the work he had on hand, headed over to the Shinigami Research and Development Institute to inform Kisuke Urahara, and then left the Seireitei alongside the 10th Division squad member.

The situation was somewhat urgent. Moving at top speed, the two quickly arrived at the 67th District of the North Rukongai, "Akatuki."

"Lord Yato, it’s right here." Upon reaching their destination, the squad member dropped to one knee and pointed toward a distant mountain range:

"Recently, we received intelligence that many residents have gone missing in this area. The patrol squad sent people to investigate, but no news ever came back."

"This place is called Mount Kyokumei. Because there are natural cave systems inside the mountain, it has become a gathering place for roaming bandits and thieves!"

"So you’re saying," Yato Uchiha interrupted his report,

"As long as I slaughter all the bandits here, your problem will be solved, right?"

"Uh... that is indeed the logic of it..."

"Then there’s no problem."

The boy shrugged. Just as he was about to release Akame and charge in with his Sharingan, he suddenly sensed a familiar Reiatsu approaching rapidly.

"Hm? Is that Kaien-senpai?"

Before his words even finished falling, the valiant and tall noble Clan Head appeared before him.

"Lord Kaien!" It was obvious the 10th Division squad member had seen Kaien Shiba many times; his tone carried a sense of familiarity.

"Yato." Kaien first smiled at the boy, then nodded slightly to the squad member beside him:

"I remember you. Masaru Inagaki, right? You used to work under Ittetsu Shiba. You can go back and report your mission accomplished. 3rd Seat Yato and I can handle things here."

The squad member bowed respectfully, showing absolute trust in Kaien Shiba.

For nine hundred years, the Captain of the 10th Division had either been a Shiba or a member of the Arima family, a lower noble house that served the Shiba.

The Shiba clan’s influence over the 10th Division was deeply rooted and absolute, just like the Shihoin’s over the 2nd Division, or the Kuchiki’s over the 6th Division.

"Yato, what a coincidence, you’re also..."

"Kaien-senpai, try to speak as little as possible," Yato Uchiha shook his head and cast Kaido, placing his palm flat against Kaien Shiba’s chest:

"Two broken ribs, and bone fragments have pierced your lung. Tsk, did you just come straight out of a battle?"

"Nothing gets past you," the valiant noble Clan Head smiled bitterly.

"You’re right. Five hours ago, I was at the border of the West Rukongai. A Menos Grande broke through there, and the 10th Division patrol squad couldn’t handle it."

"So right after you killed the Menos Grande, you rushed straight here without resting?"

"Yeah."

"There’s no need to push yourself this hard, Kaien-senpai. If the sky falls, there’s always someone taller to hold it up."

"You don’t understand, Yato... For the 10th Division, the Shiba clan is that sky." Kaien Shiba paused, his tone exceedingly resolute:

"This is the responsibility our family must bear."

"Strange. Doesn’t your Shiba family prefer a carefree life? The main house even moved out to the Rukongai."

"Even so, we can’t just abandon our ancestors’ legacy... Although I’m not particularly interested in it either, the Shiba’s current influence in the 10th Division was undeniably bought with the lives of countless ancestors."

"You Great Nobles really do live exhausting lives."

"It’s not too bad," Kaien Shiba flashed a mischievous smile.

"At least it’s better than the Kuchiki clan. Look at them, walking around with a stick up their asses all day."

"Haha..."

The situation was quite urgent, so Yato didn’t have time for meticulous treatment. He quickly lowered his arm, ceasing the Kaido.

Kaien Shiba took a few deep breaths, tentatively rubbed his chest, and gave Yato a thumbs-up:

"Your current Kaido proficiency rivals that of the high-ranking Seated Officers in the 4th Division. I heard Captain Unohana personally tutored you; it seems the rumors are true."

As Kaien Shiba spoke, he drew his Zanpakuto. A whirlpool-like Reiatsu slowly expanded, causing the air itself to become noticeably more humid:

"Yato, we’re going in to rescue them right now... By the way, I have some good news for you."
