Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Class 5 Rei-i!
Chapter 39: Class 5 Rei-i!
Behind the hidden door of the Captain’s office, Yato Uchiha sat cross-legged, quietly meditating and sensing the changes within his body.
There was no intense reaction as he had anticipated—no "scorching heat, throbbing headache, or unbearable agony." It merely felt like a gentle breeze brushing against his face, cool and refreshing, as if raindrops were falling on his skin.
It nourished him silently, like a gentle spring rain.
As he consumed the cuisine, the power Kirio Hikifune had infused within it transformed into the most primal essence of a soul, nourishing Yato.
His Spiritual Pressure grew robustly in this newly formed soil, finally shattering his limitations and stepping into the next echelon.
"Phew..."
At a certain moment, Yato abruptly opened his eyes. The six-pointed Mangekyo emitted a faint, eerie glow. Black flames danced joyously in the palm of his hand, morphing into a lotus flower one second and a sparrow the next.
His manipulation of Kagutsuchi and Amaterasu had reached its zenith!
Similarly, if he were to manifest Susanoo at this moment, the skeletal giant would not only possess flesh and skin, but it would also don a layer of armor and be capable of wielding its unique weapons.
These massive, sweeping enhancements were all due to one single reason—
Yato currently possessed a Class 5 Rei-i!
In the general consensus of the Soul Society, a Class 5 Rei-i was a massive hurdle.
Within the organizational structure of the Gotei 13, only Captains and Lieutenants were considered part of the "Captain-class."
Among them, the Rei-i levels of Lieutenants typically hovered between Class 4 and Class 5.
Captains, who were capable of performing Bankai, generally possessed a Class 3 Rei-i.
Breaking through from a Class 6 to a Class 5 Rei-i involved not merely an exponential leap in volume, but also a massive enhancement in the qualitative nature of one’s Spiritual Pressure.
Class 5 Rei-i was a very distinct dividing line.
Excluding the great nobles who possessed immense innate Spiritual Pressure, ordinary Soul Reapers had to spend a grueling amount of time tempering their souls before they could even hope to touch this threshold.
Yato Uchiha’s innate talent regarding Spiritual Pressure wasn’t particularly outstanding. He initially assumed he would need to train for at least another ten years before having a chance to breach this boundary.
Yet, he never imagined that a mere eight months after graduation, his Spiritual Pressure level would reach the caliber of a Lieutenant.
"I owe Captain Hikifune quite a favor... and perhaps Captain-Commander Yamamoto as well?"
Yato Uchiha sighed and stood up.
His muscles ached slightly. Rubbing his arms, he walked out of the hidden room.
Kirio Hikifune was nowhere to be seen outside. After a moment’s thought, Yato didn’t go out of his way to find her. Instead, he returned to his 3rd Seat quarters, took a shower, and went to sleep.
Because of the temporary draft, Kirio Hikifune had specifically granted Yato a day off, giving him the perfect opportunity to rest.
He slept through the day and straight into the night. By the time he woke up, it was already the next day.
Yato briefly freshened up before heading to the 11th Division barracks.
The 11th Division was situated on an expansive, open plain on the eastern side of the Seireitei. As a Division exclusively dedicated to combat, they were responsible for frontline offensives. Consequently, everyone from the Captain down to the lowest unranked squad member was a fierce, battle-hardened warrior quick to draw their blade—truly brimming with martial virtue.
This place was usually bustling with noise and activity. In the center of the 11th Division barracks were several large, open-air sparring arenas. Anyone seeking a fight could step into the ring, regardless of their background or which Division they belonged to. From this perspective, the 11th and 4th Divisions were the least exclusive in the Gotei 13.
Today, however, the 11th Division compound was quite desolate. The normally boisterous sparring arenas were entirely empty.
"I am the 3rd Seat of the 12th Division, Yato Uchiha." The boy approached the guards at the gate.
"Following the orders of the 1st Division, I have come to provide you with support."
After a brief check, the guards welcomed Yato inside, having him sit in the reception room first.
It wasn’t long before a burly man, heavily bandaged from head to toe, hobbled into the room on a crutch.
"3rd Seat Yato, I apologize for my appearance. Looking like this is truly..."
"Huh?" Yato Uchiha scrutinized him several times before barely managing to recognize him by the contours of his face.
"9th Seat Akihiro Takeda?"
"It’s me, 3rd Seat Yato. Your eyes truly are sharp. If I don’t speak, nobody else can tell who I am."
"Well, no kidding," Yato Uchiha said, exasperated.
"When we sparred in the arena last month, you were as thin as a rail. We haven’t seen each other in thirty days, how did you get this huge?"
"It’s not huge, it’s fat." The 9th Seat of the 11th Division lowered his head, his voice growing softer and softer.
"I accompanied the Captain on the expedition to Hueco Mundo and sustained severe injuries. I almost died. I was only brought back to the Seireitei last week."
"Didn’t you go to the 4th Division for treatment?"
"I did. It’s strange, really. Their medicine works incredibly well, but the side effect is that all the muscles in my body swelled up. I’m practically inflating like a balloon now, looking different every single day..."
Yato Uchiha chuckled inwardly. Knowing this guy was accustomed to acting like a tyrant, he had probably bullied the 4th Division members quite a bit in the past. Their doctors were definitely making him suffer a little on purpose.
"3rd Seat Yato, let’s get down to business." Akihiro Takeda also knew exactly what was going on. He scratched his head sheepishly and unfurled a map.
"Currently, over seventy percent of our 11th Division squad members are in Hueco Mundo, rendering us unable to fulfill our primary combat duties. Therefore, we submitted a request to the 1st Division, asking for formidable Seated Officers to come and provide support."
Yato Uchiha fell deep in thought.
"Has it been very turbulent lately? Are battles breaking out in the Soul Society?"
"3rd Seat Yato, the situation is... incredibly dire."
Akihiro Takeda was an interesting character. After being covertly taught a lesson by the 4th Division, he had become much more well-behaved, and his speech had even grown more refined.
"Just as a massive portion of our Division departed for Hueco Mundo, Ryoka infiltrated.
"Normally, when a situation like this occurs, we would take the lead, with the 2nd and 10th Divisions acting as support, to hunt them down. However, due to our current lack of manpower, we’ve engaged them several times without gaining the upper hand."
"The Captain-Commander was furious. He convened a Captains’ meeting, officially designating these Ryoka as ’Villains,’ and ordered all members of the Gotei 13 to prepare for battle. He even authorized the Captain-class to release their Zanpakuto..."
"Wait a minute." Yato Uchiha frowned and interrupted him.
"How could I not know about something this major?"
"Huh? That shouldn’t be the case. Yesterday, the 9th Division broadcasted the Captain-Commander’s address using Tenteikura..."
Alright then. Yato Uchiha clicked his tongue softly.
Yesterday, he had been dead to the world, completely disconnected from the outside.
"Continue, 9th Seat Takeda."
"Understood... So, in summary, the powerful Seated Officers coming to provide support will all be deployed to deal with these Ryoka. You will be stationed at specific locations, granted operational freedom, and instructed to await the signal to annihilate these Villains in one fell swoop!"
"Understood. Where am I being stationed?"
"Mount Ketsuto, located in Zaraki, the 80th District of the North Rukongai."
Zaraki?
Yato Uchiha was slightly taken aback, thinking of a certain absolute powerhouse who was currently roaming wild out there.
He had a vague feeling that this mission might encounter a few hiccups.
"...Give me the map and the detailed mission brief."
"Thank you for your hard work, 3rd Seat Uchiha... Oh right, there is one more minor detail." Akihiro Takeda smiled.
"For the four garrisons positioned in the cardinal directions this time, if it’s a Lieutenant, they will guard the location alone. But if it’s a 3rd Seat, they will be paired up."
"So you’re saying I have a partner?"
"Correct. I heard you two even know each other. It’s Kaien Shiba, the 3rd Seat of the 13th Division."
