Chapter 32: Chapter 32: The Name of the Uchiha
Chapter 32: The Name of the Uchiha
By the time Yato Uchiha returned to his dormitory at the Shin’o Academy, it was already afternoon.
The room remained neat and pristine; it seemed someone had specifically cleaned it for him.
The boy lay down on his bed, feeling a wave of exhaustion.
"Akame." He called out his Zanpakuto’s name.
"I want to see you."
In the next moment, space warped, and Yato appeared within his inner world.
Things seemed to have changed here.
The already dusky sky had grown even darker; a fiery, crimson redness poured forth from the massive stone monument, transforming into a sea of blood that submerged the earth.
"Honestly, every time I come here, I’m a little taken aback."
Yato fished a small stone out of his pocket and skipped it toward the distant darkness like a stone on water.
"Is my inner world really this gloomy?"
The stone plunged into the sea of blood, kicking up a splash.
"But coming here today, things seem even worse." He let out a complicated sigh.
"Is my mood really this terrible? It’s practically drowned this entire world in a sea of blood."
"It’s not that bad, actually," Akame stomped her feet, producing a sharp clack clack sound.
"We still have a place to stand, don’t we?"
"You certainly know how to find the silver lining."
Yato paused, a flicker of apology flashing through his dark eyes.
"I’m sorry. I still wavered."
"Fifty-three academy students... Aside from Hideki Watanabe’s group, all the rest were killed by Sosuke Aizen."
"It was probably to conduct his Hollowfication experiments on Soul Reapers, right? I didn’t ask, and he didn’t tell me."
"When he suddenly appeared back there, I had no choice but to play along and submit to him. But now that I’m following Sosuke Aizen, it’s inevitable that I’ll get blood on my hands."
"I had already braced myself for this, but I still wavered—perhaps exposing Aizen directly to the Seireitei would be the better choice?"
"But after thinking it over and over, I rejected that possibility."
Yato Uchiha’s handsome face gradually grew calm.
As he poured out his innermost thoughts to Akame, the emotion known as "wavering" vanished from his inner world.
Yet, the sea of blood beneath their feet did not dry up; instead, it abruptly began to churn and boil, growing even more savage, like flames about to erupt!
"I need Aizen. I need the Hogyoku. I need the secrets of Hollowfication. I need... the ’Opposing Force’."
"When the time comes to claim everything, the one who ascends to the throne in the heavens won’t be Sosuke Aizen. It will be me!"
"I will rewrite this world with my own will."
He turned his head, his tone gentle.
"No matter what happens, you will stay by my side, won’t you?"
The girl in the crimson armor gently caressed Yato’s face, as if holding the most precious jewel in the world.
"You and I are forever one... Whether you ultimately forge a new world and crown yourself king, or you are condemned to the depths of Muken."
"It seems that even if I find myself in purgatory, I can still wield my blade and walk forward." Yato gave a carefree laugh, his expression returning to normal.
"It’ll probably be a few more hours before this sea of blood recedes. Otherwise, it would be pretty disgusting for you to live here all by yourself with it being so damp."
With that, he leapt off the top of the stone monument.
There were many ways to leave one’s inner world; plummeting at high speed was one of them.
Within the Kamui-like inner dimension, only the girl remained.
"What a fool..."
Akame hugged her knees as she sat on the edge of the massive gravestone, looking down at the boundless sea of blood.
"There is not a single blade in existence that does not thirst for blood."
...
For a very rare change, Yato Uchiha went several consecutive days without training.
His seven-day trip to Hueco Mundo—first fleeing with Harribel, then clashing with Sosuke Aizen—had severely depleted his stamina and Spiritual Pressure, even if the latter was a completely one-sided crushing.
Therefore, he specifically asked for leave and spent a few days vacationing in Junrinan, the 1st District of the West Rukongai, a famous resort area.
Yato had quite a relaxing time because he discovered that he was receiving special treatment in Junrinan.
He received discounts at teahouses; the owners of the delicatessens would throw in extra portions; and when he passed by children on the street, he was met with gazes full of reverence.
—Yato Uchiha was gradually making a name for himself.
The reason was quite obvious.
Over the past few days, many of the events that had transpired in Hueco Mundo had spread throughout the Soul Society.
The deaths of the fifty-three academy students, the sudden ambush by the Menos Grande, the Shin’o Academy’s subsequent special review and ensuing reforms...
And the most staggering revelation of all: the Shin’o Academy’s genius, Yato Uchiha, possessed a Zanpakuto named "Akame" that belonged to the extremely rare "Multi-Stage Release" category!
The release of this news caused quite a stir.
In the Soul Society, a Zanpakuto was a crucial component of a Soul Reaper’s combat capability.
Kido-type, direct-attack type, elemental manipulation type, biological manifestation type...
They were incredibly diverse, and any type could potentially produce top-tier powerhouses; strictly speaking, there was no inherent superiority among them.
However, there were always one or two types that could be considered extraordinary from birth.
For instance, the "Dual" type, which could loosely be categorized as a sub-type.
Captain Shunsui Kyoraku of the 8th Division’s "Katen Kyokotsu" and Captain Jushiro Ukitake of the 13th Division’s "Sogyo no Kotowari" were the only two paired Zanpakuto currently in the Soul Society.
And even rarer than the "Dual" type was the "Multi-Stage Release" type!
Throughout the recorded history of the Soul Society, a Zanpakuto capable of multiple stages of release—deriving new abilities with every Shikai—was something that only appeared once in a millennium.
The last time one had surfaced was during the founding days of the Gotei 13.
Following the death of that particular founding Captain, this type of Zanpakuto had vanished for a very long time.
But now, the sudden meteoric rise of Yato Uchiha had filled this void.
The Multi-Stage Release type Zanpakuto, Akame, was currently the only one of its kind in existence!
This title was far more resounding than "Shin’o Academy Genius."
Many residents of the Rukongai, and even many Soul Reapers, believed that as long as Yato Uchiha did not die young, he was absolutely destined to become a Captain-class entity in the future.
Of course, fame brought convenience, but it also brought annoyance.
After the initial novelty wore off, Yato quickly grew tired of the overly attentive stares from others, so he ended his vacation early and returned to the Seireitei.
Changes had also occurred at the Shin’o Academy.
Three years ago, Moritora Shiba had died in Hueco Mundo; now, over fifty academy students had lost their lives. Headmaster Hasegawa bore a tremendous amount of pressure.
Central 46 had even issued a severe interrogation—did the current Shin’o Academy actually possess the capability to cultivate qualified Soul Reapers?
Following a period of intense bickering, political maneuvering, and compromises, the academy implemented reforms in certain areas.
For example, they increased the hours for Kaido classes, raised the grading weight for emergency response skills, and mandated that additional protective details be assigned during live combat exercises in Hueco Mundo...
Yato Uchiha was actually quite in favor of these reforms. Although it was a place meant to train a militant force, the Shin’o Academy was ultimately an educational institution; ensuring adequate protection was a given.
In the days that followed, Yato smoothly transitioned back into his training routine: sparring matches, Kido practice, reviewing foundational knowledge... these academic tasks once again consumed his schedule.
During this period, many Seated Officers from the Gotei 13 visited the academy to silently observe Yato from afar. Occasionally, they would even chat with him, clearly intending to court him to join their respective Divisions upon his graduation.
To all this, Yato simply went with the flow, not showing any particular eagerness toward any specific Division.
And so, time rapidly slipped away amidst his training.
