Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Black Flames

Chapter 27: Black Flames

Before reincarnating, Yato had heard a saying—

"A change of environment can spur new growth."

This statement likely held true in the world of Bleach as well.

Although he had been in Hueco Mundo for barely five days, the boy had still benefited immensely.

The unique atmosphere and desert, the Spiritual Pressure that was entirely different from the Soul Society, the prolonged contact with Menos Grande—especially a Vasto Lorde like Harribel...

The compounding of these various factors had constantly stimulated Yato’s soul, drastically shortening the time required to achieve his Stage Two Shikai.

The power of the Uchiha once again opened its arms to him.

Within his eyes, the six-pointed star with red patterns on a black background slowly rotated in tandem with the fluctuations of his Spiritual Pressure.

A trail of crimson blood trickled from the corner of his eye, slid down Yato’s cheek, and landed on the white sands of Hueco Mundo with a soft drip.

This sound was like a signal, heralding the birth of a terrifying monster into the world.

Yato opened his left eye and slowly uttered a single word.

"Amaterasu!"

There were no superfluous movements, no need for exaggerated hand seals, and no special incantations.

He simply opened his eye and looked at a massive Adjuchas.

In the next moment, wherever his gaze focused, a cluster of black flames erupted.

The excruciating pain of the severe burns continuously gnawed at the Adjuchas. Unable to suppress his agonized wails, he slammed his body against the ground, desperately trying to extinguish the flames.

However, these black flames not only possessed a terrifyingly high temperature, but they also clung to the Menos like maggots in a corpse. No matter what he did, they could not be put out. Instead, they burned ever brighter, engulfing the skin and bone armor covering his entire body.

He rolled around in agony and shrieked in despair until he was reduced to a charred husk.

The entire process lasted for less than ten seconds.

During this brief window, the slaughter had already expanded to encompass all the other Adjuchas.

With his left eye wide open, Yato gently turned his head. As his gaze swept across the enemies one by one, the flames of Amaterasu manifested abruptly, clinging to their bodies.

The inextinguishable, searing heat transformed into a scythe that harvested life, devouring these Menos Grande one by one.

At a certain point, Yato finally closed his left eye. Within the darkness, the Mangekyo first regressed into the three-tomoe state, and finally reverted to his pure black eyes.

By now, there were no other living creatures left around him and Harribel.

Those ferocious, roaring Menos Grande had all been burned to ash by the black flames. Only scattered, charred, and cracked bones remained to silently testify that they had ever existed.

"Just as I expected, using it for the first time hurts a lot..."

Yato shook his head, feeling as though ants were gnawing at his nerves. Due to the severe depletion of his Spiritual Pressure, a wave of dizziness washed over him. No longer able to hold on, he fell backward.

Harribel caught him in her arms.

"You don’t have much Spiritual Pressure left."

The blonde Menos clumsily stroked the boy’s head. Since this was her first time taking care of someone, she subconsciously held him tighter and tighter:

"You need to sleep."

"...So you’re trying to choke me unconscious?"

"Huh?"

"Loosen your grip, Big Sis Harribel." Yato pointed helplessly at his own throat:

"You’re crushing my windpipe."

Harribel hurriedly lessened her strength, holding Yato without moving recklessly.

After witnessing the boy slaughter the Adjuchas with such powerful and ruthless means, she did not display any negative emotions.

At most, she was merely shocked that Yato possessed a Stage Two Shikai.

Killing and being eaten were the fundamental themes of Hueco Mundo under Baraggan’s rule; Harribel was long accustomed to it.

Yato lay in her arms for a short while before patting her arm, signaling that he wanted to get up.

"Where do we run to next?" Yato asked as he took out healing ointment from his pack and applied it to his body.

Harribel thought for a moment, then shook her head:

"There is no need. That Menos from earlier was named Reece Gallagher; he was already the strongest Adjuchas under Baraggan’s command. With this group of pursuers annihilated, Las Noches will not send anyone else to throw away their lives."

"Won’t they deploy a Vasto Lorde?"

"Those powerful entities, even if they follow Baraggan’s orders, wouldn’t bother with such a troublesome task. Furthermore, they would also fear my dying counterattack."

"Oh..." The boy’s eyes brightened, a smile breaking across his face:

"So, you’re out of danger now?"

A complex emotion flashed through Harribel’s emerald eyes. She turned her head away, directly puncturing the hidden meaning in Yato’s words:

"Soul Reaper, you are leaving Hueco Mundo?"

For some reason, the boy suddenly felt a bit awkward:

"Like I said from the very beginning, I’m not a Soul Reaper yet. I’m a sixth-year student at the Shin’o Academy, essentially a reservist who hasn’t graduated. Do you understand?"

He pulled out his identification tag and showed it to her:

"For a student, being late or leaving early is a massive terror! What if—and I’m just saying what if—I don’t make it back to the Senkaimon within the specified time? The academy will deduct my points! They might not even let me graduate on time..."

"The Seireitei will not do that," Harribel said coldly.

"At your age, you are already very strong. You achieved top honors in all four disciplines: Zanjutsu, Hakuda, Hoho, and Kido. You are destined to join the Gotei 13."

"Huh? How do you know my grades? I don’t remember telling you about that."

"Your identification tag." In a rare display, the blonde beauty slightly furrowed her elegant brows, revealing a hint of petulant anger:

"I know how to read!"

"...Alright then, you’re an educated Menos Grande." Yato scratched his head with a bitter smile. Just as he was about to say something else, Harribel waved her hand to interrupt him.

"Since you must return to the Soul Society, let us part ways here."

She took a deep look at Yato’s ID tag, as if trying to imprint all the information on it into her mind.

"Furthermore, I do not know how Rose and the others are faring. I need to return to the cave."

Harribel reached out and brushed the strands of hair clinging to her neck behind her back. She turned her head, no longer looking at Yato.

Then, her customary hoarse voice drifted into the boy’s ears.

"My promise still stands, Yato Uchiha. You saved me, and so I will help you."

"But remember this: I am still a resident of Hueco Mundo. If war breaks out with the Soul Society again, then the next time we meet, we will be enemies... Soul Reaper."

Harribel’s graceful, slender silhouette quickly vanished into the blowing sands.

Looking in the direction she had left, Yato remained silent for a long time before muttering to himself in exasperation:

"What a cliché way to say goodbye, Big Sis Harribel..."

"Aren’t you going to chase after her? Yato."

With a soft pop, the crimson-eyed girl clad in Sengoku-era red armor appeared beside him.

"Chase after her, hug her, kiss her, and tell her—’No! Even if the Soul Society is your enemy, my chest, Yato Uchiha’s chest, will forever be your safe haven!’ And then, you can reach your hand..."

The boy hurriedly interrupted Akame’s nonsense, shooting her a fierce glare:

"Did I burn your brain out when I used Amaterasu just now? She’s a Vasto Lorde! You want me to risk my life just to hug her?"

"Tsk. Only those who dare to dream and dare to act achieve great results, my man."

"Stop pissing me off." Yato’s brow twitched violently as he couldn’t help but rub his forehead:

"I just used the left-eye ocular jutsu of my Stage Two Shikai, and I still haven’t recovered. Dammit, I never knew that using Amaterasu would hurt this much..."
