Chapter 299: Sleep Training
The sky was turning orange, like the shade of a tangerine, and the clouds were drifting away like a soft whisper in the wind.
Soft wind breezed through the woods, causing the wooden fingers of the tree branches to dance in the fading light.
Few animals, here and there, were beginning to emerge from their hidden spots as the day came to a close.
Birds were chirping their final songs before settling down for the night.
Tap~! Tap~! Tap~!
Walking down a dirt path, Raon and Rock were heading back to the training camp after they finished their training session.
Fang Raon looked exhausted—it wasn’t a surprise—as he had endured yet another harsh, borderline torture training from Rock.
Rock, meanwhile, appeared calm and collected, as if he hadn’t even broken a sweat.
"I have a question."
Fang Raon suddenly said.
"It better be a good question. I don’t have time for idiotic questions."
Rock said.
"Really? I feel like we have nothing but time. As we are walking down this stupid road for the millionth time.
"Why do you even want us to leave the training camp? Isn’t the whole training camp’s purpose to train in there and not in some random place in the middle of nowhere?"
Fang Raon asked with a pissed-off look.
He hated this walk back to the training camp because this dirt road had so many roots poking through the ground, loose rocks, and uneven terrain that made his feet hurt.
He hated this place!
"Stop complaining, you piece of shit. You complain so much, even though you promised that you wouldn’t, tch, tch.
"You basically begged me to train you, and yet you have some balls to complain. Should I remind you?"
Rock said angrily.
"I am not complaining; I am asking a question. Why can’t we train in the training camp? Its name is TRAINING camp."
Fang Raon said.
"Because your screams would disturb others, dumbass. It’s also better not to have distractions. I am sure you would get distracted by my beautiful granddaughter Della, like the hornball you are."
Rock said.
"Excuse me, I have a girlfriend."
Fang Raon said and then flipped him off with a middle finger, and Rock’s eyebrow twitched, and he clenched his fist tightly, trying to control his anger.
"Was that your question?"
Rock asked in anger.
"No... I had another question. It’s about Dead Redemption. Are you sad about what happened to them?"
Fang Raon asked curiously.
"Sad? Why the hell would I?"
Rock asked with a frown.
"Well... You taught them and are the reason why Dead Redemption exists in the first place. You basically made it happen."
Fang Raon said.
"Bah, I am not sad. It was inevitable that they wouldn’t last. I told them that it will happen on the day of its creation!"
Rock said.
"I guess the strongest aren’t meant to be following anyone."
Fang Raon said.
"Leon was just a goddamn dumbass and stubborn to realize that. He was so over his head that he really thought that he could control so many egos and personalities.
"He just isn’t smart."
Rock said.
"The tower is getting rowdy, I heard. I also want to get stronger. I am so close to reaching level 3 in the legacy skill."
Fang Raon said.
"You’ll get there. Having legacy will also boost your strength. But do not be impatient. You and I have only begun your training.
"It’s far too early for you to be thinking about fighting the Dead Redemption. They would crush you like a bug."
Rock said.
"I know..."
Fang Raon said.
Then, he pulled out a Skill Window of the Aurel’s Blade Massacre skill.
***
[=SKILL WINDOW]

’Almost level 3... I need to keep pushing myself harder, and I’ll reach it in a day, maybe two days.’
Fang Raon thought with a serious gaze, and then he waved his hand across the Skill Window and made it disappear.
In that moment.
They saw the walls of the training camp appear in the distance and its gate. The dirt road led straight to the entrance.
"Yawn!"
Rock let out a loud yawn, and then he pushed open the gates, and once Raon entered the camp’s grounds, he closed the gate.
"I have a new training for you."
Rock said.
"Really?"
Fang Raon asked.
"For the time being, sleep inside the game."
Rock said.
"Why?"
Fang Raon asked with a frown.
He wondered what kind of training was "sleeping inside the game."
"At random times, I will attack you while you’re sleeping. I want you to be able to react in your sleep to my attacks."
Rock said.
"And how will I do that?"
Fang Raon asked.
"Use your instincts. It will come off like second nature once you get used to it. It’s another step to learn Read. A necessary step."
Rock said.
"...If there are days when I can’t sleep inside the game?"
Fang Raon asked.
"Just tell me. You don’t necessarily have to sleep inside the game every night if you happen to be busy in the real world.
"But if you don’t have anything going, please, try to sleep inside the game."
Rock said.
"Very well."
Fang Raon nodded.
He didn’t mind sleeping here, as his little room in the lodge was pretty nice and warm—but it wasn’t as good as his real-world bed.
"Do I have to keep my pain settings disabled?"
Fang Raon asked with a slight hint of fear.
"Of course!"
Rock roared, as if it were obvious.
’Shit... I guess I’ll even suffer through the night now, and I will get even less sleep than before. I might be too afraid to go sleep because the pain can come at any moment!
’This is actual torture!’
Fang Raon thought with an ugly expression.
"RAON!"
In that moment, he heard a shout, and hearing that made his mood immediately better, and as he turned around, he immediately felt an embrace of a well-endowed woman.
The woman’s warm body made him feel like he was on cloud nine—it felt otherworldly soft and smelled like flowers.
"You got here."
Fang Raon said with a smile.
"Mmh~!"
Chaewon nodded with a shy smile as she hugged Raon.
"Who the hell is this?"
Rock asked with a frown.
In that moment, he also saw a strange group of people showing themselves in the distance, peeking from the lodge.
They were with Della.
He didn’t recognize any of them.
"Rock, this is Chaewon, my girlfriend. Chaewon, this is Rock, my tortur—teacher."
Fang Raon said with a twitching eyebrow.
He almost instinctively said "torturer," as he honestly felt like that more than a teacher.
"It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Rock. Raon has said great things about you."
Chaewon put her hands together politely and bowed her head slightly to show respect.
"Okay, and what the hell are you doing in here?"
Rock asked with a confused look.
"While I was playing on my second character, I happened to meet her and her friends over at the 6th floor. They’ve been with me and Anna ever since.
"We reached the 12th floor last night, and I told her to come visit the training camp."
Fang Raon said.
"...Why? We have no room for distractions. Especially a girlfriend-kind of distraction. We need to focus fully on training!"
Rock said.
"I won’t be distracted."
Fang Raon said.
"Bah, you get distracted by a passing butterfly. Why should I trust you won’t get distracted by a girl?
Rock asked.
"I have no intention to distract him. We’re not planning to stay here for a long time."
Chaewon said.
"..."
Rock crossed his arms with a frown and tapped his foot on the ground, as he honestly felt like just kicking her and her friends out of the camp right now.
"Grandfather, are you sure that they should leave?"
Della asked.
"...What do you mean, granddaughter?"
Rock asked with a frown.
"Well... They are fresh meat... And I am sure they are more than eager to learn from the great instructor Rock."
Della said with a smile.
"...Hmm, I do have a new training regiment that I’d like to test before trying it on the new recruits of Rose Records.
"I could see whether they would break..."
Rock’s eyes squinted.
For some reason, Kevin, Aella, Bobby, and Marina felt a cold chill, like they were about to be attacked by an ice magic spell.
"Fine, you can stay here for a little while, but we don’t have time for freeloaders. You’ll also partake in training!"
Rock shouted.
"We’ll do it."
Chaewon said with a serious expression, but Raon was trying to signal her to leave instead, but she didn’t notice his "subtle" hints.
"Good."
Rock said with a cold smile.
"I am not doing any training. You old bastard can go fuck himself!"
Anna suddenly shouted.
She had heard from Raizen about Rock’s demonic training, and she didn’t want to have any part in that!
"Then the gate is there. Goodbye."
Rock pointed towards the gate.
"Hmph, don’t care. I’ll go find the Tower Key so that we have it ready when we want to leave this shithole of a floor behind."
Anna rudely showed a middle finger and walked out of the gate with the gate immediately closing after her.
"Heh."
Chaewon smiled now that Anna was gone.
