Chapter 287: Chapter 287: No Matter What, I Choose Him
The secretary immediately pressed the button. "Sir, there’s a—"
"Put one of my men on," Owen interrupted calmly.
"Yes, sir."
One of Owen’s bodyguards stepped forward. The secretary moved aside, allowing him to lean toward the intercom.
"Sir."
"Who’s out there?" Owen asked.
The bodyguard glanced toward the group before answering.
"It’s Mark, sir. He came with Tony and several bodyguards."
A brief silence followed.
Then a low, amused chuckle came through the receiver.
"I see." Owen paused for a moment before giving his order.
"Let him in."
Everyone froze.
"All of you, step aside," Owen continued calmly. "He may come in alone. The rest of you stay outside."
Owen’s bodyguards exchanged glances before stepping away from the doorway.
Tony instinctively looked at Mark. "Mark..."
Mark raised a hand, silently stopping him.
"It’s fine."
He turned to Tony. "Wait here."
Without another word, Mark walked the short distance to the office doors, reached for the brass handles, and pushed them open before stepping inside.
Owen was leaning back in his executive leather chair, slowly rocking it from side to side. A smug, insufferable grin spread across his face as he looked up.
"Well, well, well," he drawled. "Look who we have here. My leftover’s boyfriend."
Mark stopped in front of the massive mahogany desk. He didn’t let the insult affect him. His expression remained perfectly calm, as unreadable as polished ice.
"Owen. I’m here to talk to you."
Owen let out a short, mocking laugh before leaning forward.
"And what makes you think you’re important enough to walk into my office uninvited?"
Mark remained completely composed. His gaze shifted briefly to the empty leather chair opposite the desk.
"May I sit?"
Owen stared at him for a long moment, searching for a crack in Mark’s composure. Finding none, he waved a dismissive hand.
"Help yourself."
Mark took the seat, crossing one leg over the other with quiet elegance.
A heavy silence settled between them.
After a slow, measured breath, Mark finally spoke. "Owen, I’m here because of my boyfriend."
Owen let out a mocking laugh. "Your boyfriend is my leftover, Mark. Let’s not forget that."
"That doesn’t matter," Mark replied calmly, completely unfazed. "Everyone has a past. Everyone has an ex." He held Owen’s gaze without flinching. "But if he really meant so little to you, why are you so obsessed with him? Why go as far as blackmailing him and trying to force him back into your life?"
Owen’s grin turned malicious. "Why not? He’s a slut. I can do whatever I want with him... he loves it."
Mark’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly, the only sign of the anger simmering beneath his calm exterior. "I’d appreciate it if you stopped calling my boyfriend names."
"And if I don’t stop, what will you do?" Owen laughed, leaning forward with his elbows resting on the desk. "You can’t do a damn thing, Mark. We both know you’re the weak one, and your brother is the one who actually protects you. If Matteo were sitting where you are right now, I might actually think twice. But you..." He smirked. "You should be grateful I even gave you the privilege of speaking to me."
Mark went completely silent. He simply sat there, studying Owen with a cold, unblinking stare. The stillness in his posture was far more unsettling than a shout.
"You really are very disrespectful," Mark said softly, his voice dropping an octave. "You asked what I can do? I can do a lot without my brother’s help. Don’t mistake my silence for weakness, Owen. A man who stays quiet is often far more dangerous than a man carrying a gun."
Owen gave a dismissive scoff. "Then prove it. You’re weak... just like your slutty boyfriend."
Mark’s eyes darkened entirely, the room suddenly feeling several degrees colder. "I could make you disappear from this world without a trace," he said quietly. "They wouldn’t even find your body to bury. There would be no funeral, no final goodbye. I wouldn’t just make you disappear, Owen, I would erase every trace of your existence."
Owen bolted to his feet. "How dare you threaten me!"
"Relax," Mark said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he leaned back in his chair. "I’m not threatening you yet. I’m simply telling you what I’m capable of if you refuse to stop coming after my man."
Owen stood to his full height, towering behind his desk. "You are nothing, and you don’t stand a single chance of stopping me."
"Maybe I don’t," Mark murmured, glancing down at his perfectly manicured nails before lifting his eyes to Owen with a chilling smile. "But if your entire family suddenly disappeared from this world... tell me, who would dare question a Marcone?"
The color instantly drained from Owen’s face. "Mark!"
"Relax," Mark repeated, his tone smooth, mature, and completely controlled. He had no interest in starting a loud, messy war. He wanted Owen to understand exactly where the line was.
"Now, listen to me very carefully. If you ever dare to blackmail my boyfriend again, I won’t need Matteo to deal with you. I will personally make sure I ruin you, and I will make you regret ever being born."
Owen gripped the edge of his desk so tightly his knuckles turned white. "I’ll post the video!" he shouted, his voice filled with desperate bravado. "I’ll let the whole world see the shameless thing you’re calling your boyfriend!"
To Owen’s shock, Mark smiled.
It was warm.
Relaxed.
Completely genuine.
"Go ahead," Mark said softly.
He rose from his chair and calmly adjusted the buttons of his tailored suit jacket.
"I didn’t come here to fight you, Owen. I came here to let you know that regardless of whatever past you and Charles shared, I still want him. I’m not going to leave him. I’m not breaking up with him. No matter what you do, even if you broadcast that video to the entire internet, even if you send it to his parents, I will still choose him. I am never going to leave him just because of a video."
He took one slow step closer. "So ask yourself one question. If your plan was to use that video to make me leave Charles..."
A faint smile touched Mark’s lips.
"...then you’ve already lost."
Owen froze, completely thrown off by the unwavering conviction in Mark’s eyes.
"I’m not here to plead with you," Mark continued as he slowly approached the desk. "I simply don’t want unnecessary problems. I don’t want us starting a senseless war over something that’s already over. I want you to understand one simple fact, you and Charles are in the past. He’s with me now, and I’m never letting him go. He’s the man I chose, and I’m never walking away from him for any reason. Whatever happened between the two of you has nothing to do with me, and it will never change the way I feel about him."
Mark stopped in front of the desk and leaned forward slightly, planting both hands firmly on its polished surface. His eyes locked onto Owen’s with calm, unwavering authority.
"I’m treating him the way he deserves to be treated, and I’m going to love him the way he deserves to be loved. So I’m advising you, peacefully, to leave Charles alone. Stop blackmailing him. Stop threatening him. Stop using his past against him."
He paused, never once breaking eye contact.
"If you listen, we can all move on with our lives. But if you don’t... if you continue coming after my man..."
His voice remained calm. "Then you’ll have to deal with me."
A brief silence filled the office. "And believe me..." Mark said quietly, "That won’t end well for you."
Owen opened his mouth to reply, but the words died in his throat. The calm certainty in Mark’s voice left him with nothing to say.
Mark straightened, gave Owen one last indifferent glance, and turned toward the door.
"Have a good day, Owen."
Without waiting for a response, he walked out of the office with long, confident strides, leaving Owen standing alone in the heavy silence.
The moment the double doors clicked shut, Owen slammed his fist onto the mahogany desk, sending pens scattering across its polished surface. "Mark!" he roared into the empty office
He began pacing back and forth, his breathing growing heavier with every step.
"I thought they said you barely spoke," he muttered through clenched teeth. "They said you were the weak one. So how the hell can a man with no weapon, no raised voice... get under my skin like this?"
His chest rose and fell violently as his anger shifted to another target.
"Charles..." he hissed. "You actually sent your boyfriend to threaten me?"
A bitter laugh escaped him. "Fine. You think you’ve found a better life? You think someone is finally going to love you the way you always wanted?"
His eyes hardened. "I’ll destroy your relationship... one way or another."
He snatched his phone off the desk and immediately dialed his head of security.
The call connected almost instantly. "Put eyes on Charles," Owen ordered coldly. "I want every one of his movements reported to me. I want to know where he goes, who he meets, and who he’s with at all times."
His grip tightened around the phone. "This is far from over."
"Understood, boss," the bodyguard replied without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Mark, Tony, and the accompanying bodyguard stepped out...
