Chapter 271: Chapter 271: The Truth About Paris

Meanwhile, back at the VIP table, Leah slipped into the empty chair Adrian had occupied just moments earlier.

She offered a warm, polite smile as she looked across the table.

"Hi, Matteo."

Matteo turned his attention to her.

"It’s nice to finally have a chance to sit down with you," Leah said.

"Likewise," Matteo replied.

His sharp eyes lingered on her for a moment before he leaned back slightly, curiosity flickering across his face.

"If you don’t mind, there’s something I’ve been genuinely curious about. What exactly is your relationship with Adrian?"

Leah let out a soft chuckle, briefly looking away before meeting his eyes again.

"Adrian’s my boyfriend."

Matteo’s expression went completely blank.

His dark eyes locked onto her with a chilling intensity.

A second later, Leah burst into laughter, quickly raising both hands in surrender.

"I’m kidding! I’m kidding!" she said between laughs. "We’re just friends. But that’s exactly what Adrian asked me to pretend to be while he was staying with me in Paris. The whole thing was part of his desperate plan to make you come after him."

Matteo straightened in his seat, his interest instantly piqued. A faint, intrigued smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

"Is that so?" he asked. "What exactly was Adrian like while he was in Paris?"

Leah groaned dramatically, rolling her eyes at the memory.

"Oh, he was incredibly rude, unbelievably stubborn, had the sharpest tongue imaginable, and never listened to a single word anyone said."

Matteo’s smile widened, a quiet chuckle escaping him.

The description painted such a familiar picture that there was no doubt in his mind she was talking about his stubborn, spoiled boyfriend.

"I’m serious!" Leah insisted, leaning closer. "Adrian completely roasted every one of my friends who tried to flirt with him. He was so savage that none of them wanted to come back to my apartment after that."

She laughed, shaking her head.

"He made it crystal clear that none of them could compare to you. He’d constantly brag, saying, "My boyfriend is tall, handsome, and incredibly rich."

Her smile slowly softened.

"But the moment he finished bragging..." she said quietly, "he’d cry. He skipped so many meals. Sometimes he’d just sit there sobbing and whisper, "I miss him... I want to see him."

Leah reached for her phone, unlocked it, and opened a specific photo before turning the screen toward Matteo.

"Do you remember this picture?" she asked. "The one he posted of the two of us?"

Matteo studied the image carefully.

It was the photo of Adrian and Leah looking every bit like a happy, perfect couple.

"The funny thing is," Leah said with a small laugh, shaking her head, "we didn’t even go anywhere that day."

She smiled as the memory came back.

"He asked me to style him because I’m a fashion stylist. I actually used to work for Maya before I moved to Paris."

She glanced at Matteo.

"Then he told me he wanted us to look like a couple so you’d get jealous and come after him. He looked at me that day and said, "Let’s take a picture. Maybe my boyfriend will come for me."

She shook her head in amusement. "I told him he was crazy because you didn’t even know where he was."

But he just smirked and said, "He’ll find me. He has his ways. I just need to give him a reason to come."

Matteo slowly shook his head, a mixture of disbelief and affection spreading across his face.

"And do you know why he never showed his face in any of the photos he posted while he was in Paris?" Leah asked, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

Matteo leaned forward, completely captivated.

"Tell me."

Leah smiled softly.

"Because every single picture he posted was taken right after he’d finished crying," she explained. "His eyes would always be puffy, so he’d spend ages trying to find the perfect angle that hid his face but still made him look incredibly hot."

She laughed, shaking her head.

"Every photo he posted was meant for you to see. Honestly, I’ve met all kinds of dramatic people in my line of work, but Adrian took it to a whole new level."

"I’m telling you this because I want you to know how much he suffered during those two months. I felt sorry for him every single day."

Matteo listened in silence, absorbing every word Leah said about Adrian.

"Every day he’d ask me, ’Why isn’t he coming for me? Doesn’t he love me anymore?’" Leah continued. "He was unbelievably dramatic."

"Even my boyfriend’s friends, the ones involved in some serious underground business, tried to intimidate him."

She shook her head in disbelief. "Adrian wasn’t scared in the slightest. He actually called all of them’baby mafias who’s still growing’ and told them to their faces that none of their auras could even compare to his own man’s."

"Every time Adrian threw one of his bratty tantrums and stirred up trouble, I was always the one who had to beg my boyfriend’s friends to overlook it."

Leah let out a long, exhausted sigh before looking at Matteo with genuine curiosity.

"Seriously, during the entire month Adrian stayed with me, he nearly sent me to an early grave. My only question is... how on earth did you spoil him that much? Because every time I scolded him, he would just pout and say, "Blame my boyfriend. He’s the one who spoiled me."

Leah folded her arms and looked straight at Matteo.

"So I’m blaming you for all of it. Adrian is spoiled beyond belief, completely fearless, and you are one hundred percent responsible."

Matteo couldn’t help but laugh softly, his heart swelling with affection.

"I’m sorry he put you through all that," Matteo admitted. "I intentionally spoiled him, so I can’t apologize for that. But I am sorry he put you through so much. Honestly, I had no idea he was suffering that much."

Leah nodded, her expression turning sincere.

"More than I could ever explain," she said. "Every single day, he would check the front door, hoping you would be the one standing there."

"And when we were getting ready to fly back, he made me pick out every outfit he was going to wear for Maya’s party and the wedding. He kept saying, ’Style me so that when my man sees me, he won’t be able to resist me. He deliberately told Maya not to invite you to the party, but secretly, he spent every second hoping she would invite you anyway."

Leah looked at Matteo with a smile.

"That night, when he walked into the ballroom, he wasn’t looking for Charles or Frank."

She paused.

"He was looking for you. He’s unbelievably stubborn... but he’s not the type to give up easily. He’s a very determined person."

Leah’s expression grew gentler.

"He never stopped loving you, Matteo. He never told me the full story of what happened between the two of you. All he said was that you were both taking a necessary break."

Matteo let out a slow breath, his dark eyes filled with quiet gratitude as he looked at Leah.

"I have to thank you for taking such good care of him," Matteo said sincerely. "Thank you, Leah. And thank you for telling me all of this. I’ve wanted to know how he was doing during those two months. I’m really glad you told me."

Leah smiled warmly. "You’re very welcome, Matteo."

A quiet sense of relief washed over Matteo.

Leah’s words had settled the last of the doubts lingering in his heart. Adrian had never stopped loving him, not even for a second. His stubborn pride had simply kept him from reaching out first.

Just then, Adrian returned to the table. His eyes immediately narrowed when he noticed Leah sitting in his chair.

"What exactly are you doing in my seat?" Adrian asked, folding his arms across his chest.

Leah leaned back with a playful smirk. "Trying to steal your boyfriend."

"Sorry," Adrian replied without missing a beat. "You’re not even remotely qualified."

Leah placed a hand dramatically over her chest. "Wow. That was rude."

Adrian simply rolled his eyes before reaching down to take Matteo’s hand, their fingers intertwining naturally.

"Baby, let’s go," he said, giving Matteo’s hand a gentle tug. "The newlyweds have already left for their honeymoon, so we should head home too."

Matteo rose smoothly to his feet, straightening the front of his suit jacket.

He turned to Leah with a polite nod.

"Goodbye, Leah. It was nice talking to you."

Leah smiled. "You too. Take good care of each other."

Adrian’s sharp eyes immediately darted between the two of them.

"What exactly were you two talking about?"

Matteo chuckled softly and slipped an arm around Adrian’s waist, giving it a gentle squeeze.

"Baby, let’s go."

As they walked away, Adrian suddenly stopped and glanced back over his shoulder.

Narrowing his eyes, he pointed a warning finger straight at Leah.

You’d better not have told him about my dramatic behavior in Paris.

The silent threat was unmistakable.

Leah only burst into laughter, grinning as she waved them off.

Too late, Adrian, Leah thought, trying not to laugh as she watched Matteo and Adrian walk away with Matteo’s bodyguards following a few steps behind.

Frank left the venue in his own car, parting ways with the couple at the entrance. Meanwhile, Matteo’s private convoy rolled out through the luxury hotel’s gates and onto the open road, beginning the long drive back to his estate.

Meanwhile, back at the estate, Mark and Charles finally arrived home.

The house was quiet, a stark contrast to the storm raging inside Charles’s chest.

He walked silently into their bedroom and sank onto the edge of the bed, his mind completely numb.

Suddenly, his phone vibrated against his thigh.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Four.

Five.

Charles’s heart dropped.

With trembling fingers, he pulled his phone from his pocket and unlocked the screen.

Five new messages.

An unknown number.

Each message contained a video attachment.
