Chapter 255: Chapter 255: Does This Mean You’ve Forgiven Me?

Only now did he fully grasp how isolated Adrian had felt, trapped not only by Matteo’s actions but by the fact that no one had truly heard him.

He leaned forward and gently pressed a kiss to the back of Adrian’s shoulder.

He leaned forward and gently pressed a kiss to the back of Adrian’s shoulder.

"Adrian..." he whispered. "I understand now."

He took a slow breath.

"Maya loves you. I know she does. She’s an incredible sister. But she became so afraid of losing you that she put your safety before your voice. She should’ve tried to understand your pain instead of assuming protection was all you needed."

His voice grew heavier with regret.

"And I was even more wrong. I should’ve been the one who understood you better than anyone else."

He closed his eyes briefly.

"You should never have felt like you needed to explain yourself to other people because I wasn’t listening. You should never have felt like your voice didn’t matter."

Matteo tightened his arm around Adrian just enough to reassure him, careful not to hold him too tightly.

"I was wrong, Rian," he whispered. "Maya was wrong too... We all made selfish choices, even if we thought we were doing them out of love."

He closed his eyes briefly.

"Everything you said downstairs... I understand it now. I understand why you felt suffocated. I loved you so much that I wanted every part of your life to revolve around me. I wanted all of you... And I never wanted you out of my sight."

His voice grew heavier with regret.

"And during those two days after the memorial, I should have been patient. I should have waited for you to come back. We should have talked everything through. You would’ve apologized for leaving me, and we could have moved on past it... Instead of reacting the way I did when you came back to the hotel."

Matteo’s voice dropped into a rough, vulnerable whisper.

"About Elena... everything you said was right."

He closed his eyes briefly before continuing.

"I was completely blinded by jealousy. I was dangerously possessive."

His thumb continued its slow circles over Adrian’s stomach.

"Back then, I always wanted to control where you went. I wanted to follow you everywhere. At the time, I never saw it as control. I honestly believed I was just trying to protect you because I was terrified something would happen to you."

He lowered his head, pressing a soft kiss to Adrian’s neck.

"Rian... I’m hopelessly in love with you."

A faint, broken smile crossed his lips.

"You’re far too beautiful for me to ever want to let you go... or let anyone else have you."

Matteo leaned forward slightly, searching Adrian’s face.

"I was losing my mind because of that love... and a part of me is still consumed by it."

His voice softened.

"Back then, I was struggling with serious mental health problems. But I’m getting help now. I’m seeing a professional. I’m taking my medication. I’m working through everything that was broken inside me. If you give me another chance, I won’t let those demons destroy us again."

His next words were barely above a whisper.

"Baby... give me one more chance to prove that I can change. I won’t control you anymore. I’ll tell you how I feel... I’ll tell you what I want... but the final decision will always be yours."

Adrian remained completely silent, his eyes fixed on the dark corners of the room.

"Let me take care of you," Matteo pleaded softly, his lips brushing the side of Adrian’s neck. "Let me spoil you. Be my princess again, baby. Let me cherish you the way you deserve."

Adrian slowly turned around on the mattress until he was facing Matteo. He looked deeply into his dark eyes.

"How?"

Matteo’s eyes softened.

"Come back to me first."

Adrian gave a small shake of his head.

"No. Tell me first." His voice was quiet but firm. "How are you going to spoil me?"

Matteo was silent for a moment before answering. "Come back home with me," Matteo said instinctively. "You’ll stay at home comfortably while I handle everything."

Adrian’s expression softened into quiet disappointment.

"Are you sure you’re healing at all, Matteo?"

"You promised not to control me anymore... but the very first thing you suggested was keeping me at home. You still don’t want me going to work, do you?"

"Listen to me, baby," Matteo said quickly, desperate to explain. "You can work from home. You can do whatever projects you want from our house. Just stay home, be pretty for me, and I’ll literally pay you for every hour you spend there. You don’t have to stress yourself out in the outside world anymore. Just let me take care of everything."

Adrian stared at him, his heartbeat quickening.

"What if one day you get tired of me?" he asked quietly. "If I become completely dependent on you... how am I supposed to take care of myself if you decide you don’t want me anymore?"

Matteo’s eyes locked onto his.

"Is that an agreement?" he asked, hope suddenly flickering across his face. "Are you saying you’ll come back to me?"

Adrian didn’t look away.

"Answer my question, Matteo."

Matteo’s expression turned serious.

"That will never happen, baby," he said, his voice firm with conviction. "I swear to you, I’ll love you for the rest of my life. I could never get tired of you."

He reached up and gently cupped Adrian’s cheek.

"You are my entire world."

Adrian lowered his gaze to Matteo’s chest.

"What if I become completely lazy?" he asked quietly. "What if I don’t do anything except stay in bed and serve you?"

A soft laugh escaped Matteo.

"Then that’s absolutely perfect," he murmured, his fingers gently tracing Adrian’s jaw. "Just take care of me, and let me take care of everything else."

Adrian looked back at him.

"What if I stop acting like a man? What if I become too fragile? What happens then?"

Matteo smiled without hesitation.

"Then I’ll hire even more maids to look after you," he said. "You won’t have to lift a finger."

A small, genuine smile finally curved Adrian’s lips.

"You’re the one promising to spoil me," he reminded him. "So you don’t get to complain, and you don’t get to grow tired of me. Otherwise..."

Matteo’s eyes sparkled with amusement.

"Otherwise what, princess?"

Adrian leaned closer.

"I’ll hurt you."

He tilted his head and sank his teeth into Matteo’s shoulder in a firm, playful bite, lingering just long enough before finally letting go.

"Ow..." Matteo laughed softly. "Baby, that hurt."

Adrian narrowed his eyes at him.

"If you ever break your promise..." he said firmly, "or if you ever hurt me like that again, I’ll tie both of your hands up, kick your ass, and make sure you never forget it."

Matteo smiled, completely unfazed.

"That will never happen," he said quietly.

Adrian searched his face for a long moment, as if trying to decide whether he believed him.

Then, without another word, he slowly rested his head against Matteo’s chest.

Matteo let out a soft, relieved breath, a crushing weight lifting from his shoulders. He gently cupped Adrian’s face, his heart pounding against his ribs.

"Does this mean you’ve forgiven me?" he asked hopefully. "Are we back together, Rian?"
