"Marshal, it’s not going well." He Li heard Ji Wen’s worried whisper as they watched Qin An fighting alone in front of them.
"...." He Li didn’t answer, his eyes stayed glued to the young man. Of course he can clearly see it but as they knew, everyone— even him, the Marshal couldn’t do anything.
This is the first time that He Li feels he’s totally useless. He was used to being the frontliner, the one who led in every battle and war he went to. He was the one who commands and guards his soldiers at the same time, but now he’s in the same situation as them.
An unfortunate one even.
All the endless training and experience he had in the past became useless to this supernatural occurrence. Does he feel good being protected? No. Never.
Especially if the person that’s fighting is Qin An.
He Li’s eyes lowered a bit and his grip on his weapon tightened. His back was straight and tense and as he saw the situation is not even getting better after the young man’s effort, the aura radiating around him turned colder.
Useless.
He didn’t hesitate but called himself that. He felt utterly useless. But what can he really do? They are not in the situation wherein he can even help lessen Qin An’s burden. Aside from not getting out of his way, what’s the use of being in the corner? He’s the Marsha of the Federation. He vowed to protect every individual under his watch from the enemies that caused destruction to their home.
It is his highest responsibility, not the other way around.
He Li clenches his jaw. This has to stop. The young man is clearly not getting better after the constant fighting alone due to his body. Qin An needs help.
How? What can he do?
Anything. I’ll do anything. Those were his whispers inside his heart in desperation yet to his surprise, a familiar feeling once again starts to overwhelm him.
This was the strange force that just suddenly grew inside him. He Li couldn’t really explain it clearly. He just remembered that ever since he met Qin An, he had been dreaming about some vague and incomplete memories. It was as if there’s fragments of the past that wanted to enter inside his mind, yet he had no idea what it was about because that never happened in his life.
Later when he went to the last war he attended, something happened that snapped inside him. It was very mysterious but he could feel that there’s a force growing inside him. There’s still the pain inside his head from the increasing index of his mental pollution but unlike in the past when he had to inject high-level inhibition for a while to ease his pain, now he could tolerate it for a much longer time. It wasn’t so unbreakable.
Was it because Qin An helped him? Indeed but he felt that there’s more than that.
He Li once suspected that his body grew immunity to the mental pollution on his body but that’s impossible. There’s no way that a human body can tolerate the danger of riot. So what is his situation?
He had no idea about the answer until now but he had observed that as long as Qin An used his spiritual energy on him, there’s always that deep sense of familiarity and his body would just instinctively relax. He Li could feel it. It’s not because the young man could ease his pain but his body always let his guard down in front of Qin An.
Then that time would also the growing force inside him would take advantage and crawl faster inside him.
He Li thought of that moment when they were in the training room. It was that time when he felt that if any more time stayed, that force inside him would completely win.
Honestly he had long been curious about this situation. He wanted answers and truths about why it’s happening to him but he just didn’t know where to begin. Even asking the young man would make him feel hesitation that he doesn’t understand.
Anyway, that force would appear when feeling the after’s spiritual energy... and right now.
Seeing Qin An getting exhausted but still never dared to let his attack wavered, a sense of impatience aroused inside him.
Not because of the young man’s performance but as he watched Qin An getting attacked and even the dark energy from the evil spirits had now inevitably managed to touch him, that mysterious force became agitated.
He Li was stunned a bit yet before he could try calming down himself, what happened next completely snapped something inside him.
In front of him, a large amount of dark energy formed and directly charged towards Qin An. Since the young man’s energy had been exhausted, no matter how high his alertness, he didn’t have the chance anymore to counterattack or even dodged it towards him.
Thus, everyone saw the dark energy engulfed Qin An. It looked like it swallowed him and they saw the energy charged to penetrate Qin An’s heart fast before they could react.

"Qin An!" They gasped in terror when in the next second, a large amount of blood escaped from Qin An’s mouth. The young man coughed again and again and his body wobbled. He couldn’t help but use his sword to balance himself and not fall down.
Qin An heard the anxiety of those calls so he subconsciously raised his eyes and met another pair directly. It was from He Li.
The man’s pupils dilated in shock as he stared at him. He Li was completely astonished and Qin An saw that in the next second, the man’s eyes completely changed their color.
From the dark obsidian eyes, He Li’s orbs turned into a deep red— the color of death from a devil.
"!!!!"
Qin An was dumbfounded at that sight. His pair of black with golden hint met the dark red amidst the chaos in front of him.
At this moment, Qin An felt like the time slowed down around them. All he could see was those pairs of dark red eyes staring straight on him too.
And meeting it just suddenly evoked a strange force that rushed inside him.
Familiar. It was too damn familiar to him.
"...." Qin An was stunned by that force yet before he could process everything, a loud scream from the evil spirits erupted.
A strong wind occured. The dark energy became more aggressive and the evil spirits suddenly turned into dark mist, instantly surrounding everyone.
In the next second, Qin An found himself standing alone in the dead forest.
