Chapter 1373: Chapter 183: How Far Will He Go (Part 2)
Liu Degui asked in confusion, "Who did they borrow from for the down payment, and whose name is on the deed?"
"Master Han borrowed it from his younger siblings back in their hometown in Si Gang, and the deed has his and Director Xiang’s names on it. After all, the main people living there will be the two of them. And these past years they’ve always been helping Salted Fish and Xiang Ning, never helped Xiao Jun and Xiang Meng. Maybe getting provoked by Old Han scraping together fifty thousand for Salted Fish, they decided to buy a place in the East Sea, so later they can bring Xiao Jun’s and Xiang Meng’s kids over and help look after them."
"Master Han and Director Xiang are planning to move to the East Sea?"
"The East Sea is better than Binjiang in every respect, especially education. When the kids grow up and take the college entrance exam, it’s much more advantageous than being in Binjiang. One of the two of them is retired, the other’s semi‑retired, they’ve got plenty of time anyway. If they can go to the East Sea, why wouldn’t they?"
"When are they planning to go?"
"In the second half of the year. They’re going to wait for Han Han to finish this semester, and by then the new place will be pretty much set up. They can move in and live there right away."
"Where did they buy the new place?"
"He said they bought in Xuhui District. Xuhui, like Huangpu, counts as the central urban area. Not like Salted Fish and Ningning, who are used to staying by the river—when they buy commercial housing in the East Sea it has to be along the Huangpu River, and they even bought in Pudong."
Buying in Pu Xi is of course better than buying in Pudong. Pudong used to just be countryside.
Even though it’s developed pretty well now, the transportation and all that still aren’t convenient, and education, medical care and so on are still far inferior to Pu Xi.
Liu Degui was very envious of Master Han’s family and couldn’t help asking, "How much did Master Han spend on the apartment?"
"More than four hundred thousand, but it was all borrowed. If it were me, even if I sold the pots and smashed the pans I could afford it; at worst I’d take a loan like they did. But I just don’t have that kind of nerve. They’re not like you and me, they’ve got experience carrying debt. They’ve got their pensions anyway, they can just pay it back slowly."
"They really do have guts. Me, I wouldn’t dare."
...
Speak of Cao Cao and he appears.
While the two of them were chatting idly, Han Yu actually came over on his light motorcycle.
"Uncle Liu, what’s going on next door? Who’s that little guy with glasses in the guard room? He wouldn’t even let me in!"
"He doesn’t know you?"
"I don’t know him either." Han Yu parked, looking thoroughly depressed.
Liu Degui explained with a smile, "That young guy with glasses is from the Disciplinary Committee. They’re borrowing our camp to handle a case, it has to be kept secret. Of course they won’t let in anyone they don’t know. Even if they did know you, they probably still wouldn’t let you in."
"From the Disciplinary Committee?" Han Yu asked instinctively.
"Yeah."
"Got it. Since they need secrecy, I won’t go in."
Old Ding laughed and asked, "Salted Fish, here to see Zhang Asheng again today?"
Han Yu turned toward Linghai Port and explained, "I’m not here for him, but it has a bit to do with him. There’s a bulk carrier coming into port tonight, this ship specializes in running Southeast Asia. I want to visit the captain and the chief officer and use the chance to talk with them."
The kid really does love whatever line he’s working in.
Knowing he’d be joining the Navy’s task force to visit foreign countries in July, he started prepping for the trip early.
Thinking of this, Old Ding asked with a grin, "Want to visit a captain who’s familiar with Africa?"
"We’ve got very few captains around here who really know Africa. But President Zhang introduced one to me—he used to work at the Marine Bureau too, later became a freelance seaman, then jumped ship to a large shipping company in Taiwan to captain for them. He often runs the South Africa route. I’ve already called and talked with him."
"Not bad, kid, always trying to get out ahead of things!"
"As escort captain, the responsibility’s huge. Besides, I only got this escort captain job because the Ministry of Transport leadership put in a word for me. If it came down to bare‑knuckle competition, I might not even qualify to take part in the selection."
"You’ve worked on deep‑sea liners and been to so many countries, how do you not qualify?"
"I have worked on ocean liners, but I was just the chief officer. The first requirement for taking part in the escort‑captain selection is being a captain of a First-class Ocean Liner with unlimited voyages."
Just as Han Yu finished speaking, a familiar face pushed open the small gate and walked out of the camp.
Old Ding exclaimed in surprise, "Inspector Wu!"
The deputy chief procurator of the Linghai City Procuratorate and director of the anti‑corruption bureau hadn’t expected to see Han Yu here as well. He smiled and greeted Old Ding, his old colleague, then looked at Han Yu with a smile and asked, "Salted Fish, when did you get here?"
"Just now." Han Yu pointed across the way and asked curiously, "Inspector Wu, have you been transferred to the Disciplinary Committee?"
"No."
"Then how come you’re here too?"
"The Disciplinary Committee notified me to come. Maybe they’ve made a breakthrough over there and need us to help investigate and collect evidence, or maybe they want us to get involved early."
Old Ding couldn’t help asking, "Who are the two people being investigated?"
Who the Disciplinary Committee was looking into wasn’t exactly top secret. It had already spread through the Linghai City offices and all the bureaus and commissions; they just didn’t know where the two were being held.
Wu Ren Guang passed around a pack of cigarettes and said lightly, "Secretary Wang Facai of Yuelai Town and Mayor Lv Hai of Four Factory Town."
"I was wondering why he looked so familiar—it’s Secretary Wang from Four Factory Town!" Liu Degui reacted, then muttered, "The year before last, after we came back from fighting the floods, Principal Gao of Bailong Port Primary School held a celebration for Er Xiao. When he threw the banquet he invited Wang Facai, and he even toasted us."
"Who could’ve imagined back then that he’d be put under Double Rules by the Disciplinary Committee?" Wu Ren Guang let out a soft sigh, then hesitated before saying, "Salted Fish, since you’re here, there’s something I’d like to talk to you about."
"Inspector Wu, you’re the Procuratorate leader in charge of anti‑corruption. If you need to talk to someone, talk to anyone but me!"
"Cut the jokes. I’ve got serious business with you."
"Okay."
"Old Ding, Director Liu, I’m going to walk along the river embankment with Salted Fish."
No need to ask to know he had something to say to Salted Fish.
Old Ding and Liu Degui hurriedly said they didn’t mind.
