Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Please Enter the Urn

Several people still went out to kill zombies, leaving the skilled Vivian Young and the others in the mine to weave.

The spider silk could resist the scratches and bites of zombies, making it almost as effective as a bulletproof vest.

With the main fighters gone, Leo Lawrence became the only man left in the mine, shouldering the responsibility of protecting everyone.

Vivian Young sat with two other women around a wooden table. Their fingertips flew as they meticulously wove and stitched the faintly shimmering silver spider silk. It took a full two days, but three custom-fit Spider Silk Defense Suits were finally complete.

The suits felt light yet durable. Their dusty-gray color allowed them to blend in perfectly with the ruined environment, and they were completely unrestrictive to wear.

That evening, Sue Lawrence, Elliot Lawrence, and Justin Lawrance returned. They took the suits and quickly slipped them on. As they ran their hands over the fabric, their eyes lit up with delight.

"This is great. With these suits, we have another layer of protection against the zombies."

Elliot Lawrence stretched his arms, reveling in the unrestricted flexibility. His voice was full of excitement.

Justin Lawrance nodded in agreement, his tense expression visibly softening.

Silas Hawthorne had sent a notice that morning, and while they were out killing zombies, they had indeed noticed that some of them were faster and stronger. Even with their Skills, their Superpowers were only C Level, and they had come dangerously close to being bitten.

Now, with these Spider Silk Suits, their safety during hunts would easily double.

The entire family was overjoyed.

However, they only had these three Spider Silk Defense Suits. To make more, they would have to continue collecting the three strands of silk each person could produce daily.

Early the next morning, the trio equipped with the Spider Silk Defense Suits went out again to hunt zombies and collect Crystal Cores.

The three worked in perfect sync. Elliot Lawrence and Justin Lawrance charged forward, using their Superpowers to cut down zombies. Meanwhile, Sue Lawrence activated her A-Level Observation Power to keep an eye on their surroundings, ready for anything unexpected. The Spider Silk Suits performed just as they’d hoped. At one point, Justin Lawrance was clawed by a zombie, but the attack only left a faint white mark on his suit, causing no damage whatsoever.

Just as the trio finished clearing out a horde of zombies and were about to move on, two familiar, unwelcome figures suddenly appeared from behind a collapsed wall. It was Pamela Sutton and Evan Lawrence.

Sue Lawrence had already spotted them. ’Seeing how furtive they looked, she knew they must be up to no good.’ She waited impassively for the pair to approach.

’I should have dealt with Pamela Sutton long ago,’ she mused. ’I just never got the chance back at the base. But now, hasn’t an opportunity just walked right up to me?’

Pamela Sutton and Evan Lawrence approached, their faces plastered with forced, friendly smiles. They hurried closer, but their eyes roamed ceaselessly over Sue and her family. When their gazes landed on the brand-new defense suits, a flicker of greed crossed their faces.

"I can’t believe we ran into you here!"

Pamela Sutton spoke first, her voice deliberately frail. Her eyes instantly welled up as she put on a look of profound suffering. "My husband and I have been having such a hard time. Our supplies ran out ages ago, and using our Superpowers is so draining. We can’t even get a decent meal... We’re not going to survive much longer."

As she spoke, she secretly tugged on Evan Lawrence’s sleeve. He immediately played along, sighing with a pained expression. "It’s true. We’ve been searching for a safe place for so long, but we haven’t found anything. The zombies out here are getting fiercer, and we have nowhere else to go."

Pamela Sutton then turned to Justin Lawrance, her voice dripping with artificial flattery and desperation. "Justin, we know you must have found a safe place to stay. Please, be a dear and take us back with you for some supplies. Anything would help—food, necessities... We really can’t last much longer."

Sue Lawrence saw right through their little act of feigning misery to trick them into revealing their hideout.

’Would Wyatt Sterling really kick them out? Not a chance, especially with Pamela Sutton’s Healing System Superpower!’

For them to come here spouting this nonsense, Sue knew the couple was up to no good.

As she thought this, she subconsciously glanced into the distance. A figure quickly ducked out of sight. ’So they brought backup. Are they planning to wipe us all out?’

’Dream on!’

Sue pretended not to notice, and so did Justin and Elliot.

Both men had Perception, so they were well aware of the danger that lay ahead.

The three of them exchanged a glance. Sue sneered inwardly, but her expression remained neutral, even showing a flicker of sympathy. She gave a slight nod. "For old times’ sake, I suppose we can help. Come on."

Pamela Sutton and Evan Lawrence hadn’t expected Sue to agree so readily. Overjoyed, they quickly nodded and followed, making sure to send a covert signal to the figures hiding behind them. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Wyatt Sterling had dispatched five or six people to tail them from a distance. Each clutched a weapon, their eyes sinister, their minds filled with malicious intent—to plunder their supplies and seize their hideout. They were just waiting for Pamela and her husband to confirm the location before rushing in to attack.

This was Wyatt Sterling’s plan, after all.

With supplies and his own life on the line, he couldn’t afford to care about old ties.

Sue’s family saw everything unfold but didn’t break stride. They deliberately led the pair deeper into the ruins. With their Perception, they could sense a large number of zombies ahead, including, perhaps, the fast-evolved ones Silas Hawthorne had warned them about.

The three family members shared a silent understanding. They flanked the couple, quietly preparing for a fight.

The deeper they walked, the stronger the stench of rot became, and the sporadic roars of zombies grew more frequent. Pamela Sutton started to get nervous. "Sue," she couldn’t help but ask, "this place looks terrifying. Are there a lot of zombies around here? Are you sure we’re not lost?"

"We’re not lost. We live nearby. This way is a shortcut." Sue didn’t look back, her voice flat as she picked up the pace.

Hearing that they were close, Pamela Sutton and her husband beamed with delight. They repeatedly signaled behind them, indicating that they were near the target and that their backup should close in.

Sure enough, the people who had been following from a distance began to slowly close in.

Sue smirked. ’That’s right, come a little closer. How else am I supposed to wipe you all out at once?’

However, just as they rounded a corner into an alley, a horrifying scene unfolded before their eyes.

A small square ahead was packed with a dense horde of zombies, all swaying back and forth and emitting a nauseating stench.

The sudden sight of so many zombies made Pamela Sutton shriek in terror. The sound instantly drew the horde’s attention. Evan Lawrence tried to clap a hand over her mouth, but it was too late. The startled zombies were already roaring as they lunged at the group.

A foul wind rushed toward them.

Pamela Sutton and Evan Lawrence’s faces went white with terror. Shaking uncontrollably, all pretense of weakness vanished. They spun around to flee, only to find that Sue, Justin, and Elliot had somehow already gotten ahead of them, blocking their escape.

From their position, the ambushers couldn’t see into the square. Unaware of what was happening, they started to move forward, only to see Sue’s trio dash out of the alley. Right behind them were the panicked Pamela and Evan, and behind them...

"ROAR!"

The familiar, hair-raising roar of a zombie echoed out. The ambushers were scared out of their wits. None of them dared to advance; they could only scramble for cover and watch.
