Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Fire Element Strong Attack
By now, Sue Lawrence and her family had returned to their own base.
Thanks to the robots from Silas Hawthorne, her base was now clean and tidy. Jason Sterling’s base, however, wasn’t faring so well. It was a complete mess, with some caves even flooded, leaving the supplies stored inside in total disarray.
Wyatt Sterling was furious about it, but there was nothing to be done. From the moment they chose to take refuge at Silas Hawthorne’s base, their mine shaft had been left unattended.
On Sue’s end, however, things were different. For one, Vincent Lawrence had done an excellent job of maintaining it at the start. For another, the robots had taken over later, keeping everything in perfect order.
Jason Sterling, however, was unaware of this. He still assumed Sue’s mine shaft was in a similar state to his own, with flooded sections, and that she was, like him, frantically cleaning up stagnant water and debris.
But Sue Lawrence was not the least bit frantic.
It was Mia Keller’s first time inside the mine shaft. She stared, jaw-dropped, at a base that was on par with Silas Hawthorne’s, then said in shock, "Sue, this... this... when did you do all this? No, wait, you’ve been hiding a place like this all along? But why didn’t we come here when the apocalypse first started?"
Sue Lawrence sighed. "I wanted to, but certain people found out about it, and I didn’t want to expose it. Later, I figured Silas Hawthorne’s place was a good alternative. Otherwise, how would we have scored these robots? Besides, we have a ton of Points now. We can use them to exchange for supplies in the future. We can even buy a house or construct buildings."
"We can even buy a house and put up buildings?"
Mia Keller’s eyes sparkled. ’Good heavens,’ she thought, ’we have five hundred thousand Points! How many houses can we build with that?’
Mia Keller was now filled with bright hopes for the future.
"Yes. Once the cataclysm passes, things will slowly get better."
’Even though I died early, I know that in my past life, Silas Hawthorne’s base had already started constructing houses. Doesn’t that prove the country had started to rebuild? Everything is going to get better and better.’
Those five hundred thousand Points were their security.
"Alright, time to distribute the Crystal Cores."
Sue Lawrence looked around.
Vincent Lawrence, Vivian Young, Elliot Lawrence, Jenny Norris holding her child, plus Leo Lawrence and Mia Keller—all of them were looking at her.
"Crystal Cores can awaken Superpowers, and they can also enhance them. Of course, the higher your level, the more Crystal Cores you’ll need to consume."
She told them everything she knew from her past life.
"Crystal Cores are divided by color: red is for the Fire Attribute, blue for the Water attribute, yellow for the Gold Attribute, green for the Wood attribute, and orange for the Earth attribute. There are also black and white, two types of non-attribute Crystal Cores. These are highly random. They might increase your strength, or they might enhance something else. It’s really up to chance..."
In truth, the colors of the Crystal Cores weren’t uniform. Blue, for instance, had shades of dark and light. The lower the level of the Crystal Core, the paler its color; the higher the level, the deeper and more vibrant it became.
"Generally, Healing System Superpowers come from blue or green Crystal Cores. Attack System Superpowers can come from any color, while Support System Superpowers are most often from blue, orange, or green ones. Red is typically for powerful, attack-oriented abilities..."
Sue Lawrence explained, "We have over thirty Crystal Cores right now. Everyone can choose the type of Superpower they want and consume a core. With zombies rampant outside, having a Superpower is crucial."
Jenny Norris hesitated for a second, then couldn’t help but ask, "If you eat two different colored Crystal Cores, can you get two different Superpowers?"
"The chances are low, but it’s not impossible."
’The main thing is, with me here, the chances are a bit higher.’
Everyone nodded. Vincent Lawrence said, "The men should choose powerful attack-type Superpowers. We have to protect our family and the base."
Elliot Lawrence nodded as well. "Then Dad and I will take the red Crystal Cores."
"Me too."
Leo Lawrence raised his hand. He was almost seven. "I’m a man, too! I’m going to protect Mom, Auntie Mia, and Grandma Vivian."
Elliot Lawrence roared with laughter and ruffled the boy’s hair. "That’s right, you’re a little man, too. We’ll all take them together!"
Mia Keller was eager to give it a try. "I’ll take a yellow or orange one, then. Let’s see what I get. It would be great if it was from the Attack System."
Jenny Norris added, "I’ll take a blue one."
Vivian Young nodded. "Then just give me whatever is left. I’m not picky. Anything is fine."
Jenny Norris’s "little princess" was still too young and breastfeeding, so they didn’t consider her for now. Soon, the group began to divide the Crystal Cores.
As for Sue Lawrence, she picked up the unpredictable Black and White Crystal Cores and gave one to each person.
"These are random. Let’s see what Superpowers you get."
’What she didn’t mention was that Black and White Crystal Cores didn’t do much to increase attack power. They were mainly for Spiritual System Superpowers. Dominic Trent would probably have more use for this stuff, since his Superpower is Debater.’
’As for me,’ she thought, ’I have Raider. It’s a special Superpower. I tested it in my past life—all Crystal Cores are beneficial to me. I also discovered that Black and White Crystal Cores can improve things like Perception.’
And so, everyone sat around in a circle to eat their Crystal Cores.
The scene was a little absurd, but everyone ate with the utmost seriousness.
Except for Sue Lawrence, this was everyone’s first time eating these things. They all watched her, and saw her pop a Crystal Core into her mouth like a piece of candy and start to chew.
The sound was crisp and crunchy, like biting into something brittle, which made everyone extremely curious about the texture.
"How is it?"
Elliot Lawrence asked.
"Mmm, it doesn’t have much flavor. It’s actually hollow, just a thin shell..."
She mumbled while chewing, and the others began to eat as well.
The sensation of swallowing the Crystal Core was indeed strange and hard to describe. It basically shattered in their mouths, and then something began to course through their entire bodies. Soon, Elliot Lawrence let out a small gasp.
"Did you awaken a Superpower?"
Elliot Lawrence nodded, staring at the panel that had suddenly appeared before him.
"C Level Flame Technique!"
It was Flame Technique.
Sue Lawrence nodded. "Not bad. That’s a powerful Superpower. The Fire Attribute is very useful, and not just for fighting zombies. Think about cooking in the future, for instance..."
Elliot Lawrence looked pleased with himself. "But why is it only C..."
"Superpowers awakened with Crystal Cores after the zombies arrived are almost all D Level or C Level. Yours is already considered high. If you collect more red Crystal Cores in the future, you can level up your Superpower..."
Elliot Lawrence nodded. It looked like red Crystal Cores were what he would need most from now on.
"What about you, Dad?"
Vincent Lawrence had also eaten a red Crystal Core. He seemed to have awakened a Superpower as well, as he was staring blankly at the skill panel before him. After a long moment, he spoke slowly, "...D Level Flame Burst..."
Elliot’s Flame Technique was about controlling fire. As for Vincent’s Flame Burst, that was naturally a critical-hit, explosion-type skill. Its power would be even greater.
"Nice. That’s a powerful offensive Superpower."
Two people, and one of them had rolled a powerful offensive type. Excellent.
Sue Lawrence turned to Leo Lawrence. He was the last one who had taken a red Crystal Core.
