Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Wait, What the Hell?

’We’re going to die! We’re going to drown!!’

Fear spread through the crowd in an instant.

’We’re underground! We’re underground!!’

The crowd suddenly went mad, everyone surging toward the doors in a frantic, uncoordinated push.

However, the heavy protective doors on each level had long been sealed to block out the heatwave outside, leaving not even a sliver of a gap.

The crowd shrieked madly, "Let us out!!"

Those closest to the doors were the first to throw themselves against them, screaming frantically.

The people behind them crushed forward, pushing with all their might. Then came those even further back, lunging ahead!

Like a line of dominoes, the crowd toppled toward the doors. In the blink of an eye, the people at the very front fell, and a stampede formed in an instant.

"Quiet! Everyone, be quiet!"

The soldiers on duty yelled themselves hoarse, but no matter how they screamed, even if they shredded their throats, no one paid them any mind.

There were too many people in the base. With so many shoving at once, the shouts and screams turned the place into a living hell.

Even Victor Keller was shocked by the scene. This seemed to be the first time something like this had happened since the apocalypse began.

Not even during the initial great freeze had there been such chaos. But now...

Just because a flood was coming, these people were frantically shoving their way out like madmen.

"It’s going to be okay! This place was designed to be safe!"

Victor Keller shouted, but unfortunately, no one listened to him.

"Run! Run! We’re going to drown! Open the door! Open the door!"

The crowd grew even more frantic, and Victor Keller had no choice but to lead his men forward to block them.

Of course, not everyone was desperately pushing to get out. People like Jason Sterling and his group were calm, especially the Reincarnators.

They all knew that a government-built base was the safest place to be. Besides, neither Silas Hawthorne nor Marcus Morgan had reacted, which proved there was absolutely no danger.

The commotion outside also alerted the people in the control room.

Deeper inside, Sue Lawrence and her family were also disturbed. She slid her door open and stepped out. Seeing the chaos, she frowned.

"Are these people stupid or what?" Elliot Lawrence furrowed his brow. "If we were really going to die, Silas Hawthorne and the others would have been the first to run."

Just as he spoke, a figure flashed past them. It was Silas Hawthorne.

"You’re absolutely right."

He glanced back at Elliot Lawrence and gave a slight smile, continuing forward without breaking stride.

Seeing this, Sue Lawrence frowned, then got up and followed him.

"Where are you going?" Theodore Frost, who was following behind, caught up to walk beside Sue Lawrence.

Sue Lawrence raised an eyebrow. "To earn Points."

Theodore Frost burst out laughing. "Hahaha, with all the Points you have, you still need to earn more?"

"Would you ever complain about having too much money?"

"Fair enough. Be safe."

Theodore Frost patted her on the shoulder. Up ahead, Silas Hawthorne seemed to glance in their direction before quickly continuing on his way.

As Sue Lawrence passed Jason Sterling’s group, she spared them a glance. Jason and the others were sitting there with calm expressions, neither participating nor helping.

But upon seeing Sue, Jason Sterling instinctively looked up, only to see her walking straight toward them.

Jason Sterling’s heart skipped a beat, then suddenly swelled with delight.

’Sue is actually coming over to me?’

’Is she looking for me?’

’She must still remember that I brought her water last time. After all, I’ve been so good to her.’

Just as he was thinking this, he saw her speak to Jayden Sterling. "I need to borrow your Dominic Trent for a moment."

With that, she grabbed Dominic Trent and pulled him to his feet.

Jason Sterling froze.

He never thought Sue would come over, not for him, but for... Dominic Trent?

He glanced over instinctively. Jayden Sterling was also taken aback for a second, but since Wyatt Sterling had told them to get on good terms with Sue Lawrence, he nodded. "Sure."

"Hey, hey, I didn’t agree to this, did I?"

Dominic Trent immediately refused.

"What you think doesn’t matter. You have to listen to your boss."

And with that, she dragged Dominic Trent away.

Jason Sterling’s face turned so dark it was almost dripping with gloom.

The atmosphere there suddenly became strange, but Sue Lawrence was already dragging Dominic Trent along to catch up with Silas Hawthorne.

"Are you going to use your Ability?"

Dominic Trent smiled. "My spatial one? My space can’t hold living things."

"Cut the crap. You’re a Debater. Use your mouth and calm these people down."

Dominic Trent’s expression changed. "What are you talking about? I don’t understand."

"Heh..."

Sue Lawrence maintained her smile. "Believe it or not, the base command knows about everyone’s Superpowers. Including yours."

"..."

’That... actually sounds plausible.’

"But why should I help?"

Dominic Trent had no intention of helping.

Just as he spoke, a sudden scream erupted from nearby. "AHH!!"

"Let go! Let go!"

BANG!

A gunshot rang out.

Everyone was stunned. The crowd instinctively turned to look.

It turned out that when Victor Keller had brought his men to block the frantic mob, the crowd had become so crazed that they started fighting the soldiers. Someone had even managed to snatch a soldier’s gun and fire it.

A soldier fell, shot in the abdomen.

Victor Keller’s face changed instantly, and rage surged through him. That was his comrade, someone he’d spent every day with. They had survived the extreme cold and extreme heat, only to be killed not by a natural disaster, but by the very people they were protecting.

’How could this happen? How?!’

He charged forward, nearly consumed by fury.

"Get the gun first!"

Silas Hawthorne’s voice cut through the chaos. It seemed to have a magical quality, instantly quelling some of Victor Keller’s rage. But before he could get close, the man with the gun suddenly grabbed a woman next to him, locking his arm around her neck and pressing the muzzle to her temple.

"Open the door! Open the door!!"

The man roared, his eyes bloodshot. "I’m not dying in here with you lot! Open the door!!"

Silas Hawthorne frowned slightly and gestured to the people behind him. Someone immediately came forward to carry the wounded soldier away. Sue Lawrence rushed over and activated her Superpower: B Level Healing Skill.

A gunshot wound, especially from this close, was a serious injury. She couldn’t heal it completely, but she could at least ensure he lost less blood and his internal organs recovered somewhat, keeping his condition from being as critical as it was.

Victor Keller also rushed over. He instinctively checked the soldier’s condition, and upon confirming he was still breathing, he gave Sue Lawrence a grateful smile.

"Get him to the infirmary, quick!"

The trip to the hospital had yielded many medical Superpowers, not to mention a good number of medical personnel and equipment. As long as the person was still alive, they believed he could be saved.

Victor Keller shot her a grateful smile and quickly had his men carry the wounded soldier away.

As for the situation here, everyone’s attention was fixed on the vicious, gun-wielding man.

’Charge him?’

’What about the hostage?’

’Don’t charge?’

’Are we really supposed to open the door for him?’

’Besides, he has a gun. If he starts shooting wildly, the casualties will be even higher!’

Just when everyone was at a loss, Sue Lawrence kicked Dominic Trent forward. "Trade him!"
