Chapter 52: Filler

The photographer said nothing and finished the job. When it was over, Amara walked up to him directly and asked how she had done.

He did not answer. His assistant turned to her, gave a thumbs up, and said simply, "Very good."

Amara smiled with complete satisfaction, pleased with herself and entirely unaware of how the room actually felt. Beneath all that beauty and charm lived a model with no real self-awareness, and somehow that made everything worse.

The photographer let out a quiet sound of disgust the moment Amara’s back was turned, then looked at his assistant. "Is there still one more?"

I walked into the studio at that moment, stepping in gently and greeting the photographer with a polite smile. It was not forced or performative, just a simple, natural acknowledgment. But the photographer was still carrying the frustration of the previous shoot, and he responded to me with a blank, indifferent expression.

His mind had already formed a conclusion. The last model had been lacking in skill, but at least she had energy and presence. The one standing in front of him now was quiet and unremarkable by comparison. He expected even less from me.

Because of that assumption, he ran the shoot casually. He did not offer any real direction or take particular care in how he set things up. He simply mentioned the underlying theme of each photo and left the rest to me, clearly not expecting much in return.

"I really do not understand how these women get called models," his assistant muttered from beside him.

The first theme was the gentleness of an Oriental woman.

The photographer was not even paying close attention. As far as he was concerned, all I needed to do was sit there and not embarrass myself, and the theme would more or less take care of itself. But then I did something he was not prepared for.

I did not do anything elaborate. I sat on the chair with the same quiet composure I had carried all morning. But then my eyes changed.

The calm, unreadable expression I had worn since arriving was gone. My gaze shifted forward, focused and alive, with a faint wateriness at the edges and just the softest hint of red. It looked like someone gazing at the person they loved most in the world, while knowing they could not reach out and touch them. The longing was restrained, trapped just beneath the surface.

It was the exact portrait of an Oriental woman’s quiet, reserved heart.

And it did not stop there. My eyes did not just tell their own story. They drew the viewer’s attention gently but deliberately toward the clothing on my body, making everything around me part of the same moment. The embroidered orchids, the delicate collar, the long elegant skirt, all of it became part of a narrative. A woman who had dressed carefully for someone she loved, only to find that person had chosen someone else. The beauty of her appearance suddenly felt like a private embarrassment, a tenderness with nowhere to go.

Emotion and setting folded into each other perfectly. My gaze and the garment became inseparable.

The photographer snapped upright.

"Perfect!" he called out, and then again, and again. He could not hold it back. In all his years behind the camera, he had rarely encountered a model like this. His excitement was almost physical, his heart drumming with the kind of energy that only came when real artistry appeared in front of a lens.

In just five minutes, I had constructed an entire story. And the story was about the clothes.

That was what separated a true model from someone who simply wore clothing well. Most models could display a garment. Very few could dissolve into it, become its voice, make the viewer forget they were looking at a photograph and feel instead like they had stumbled into a private moment. I had done exactly that.

The photographer felt something unlock inside him. For the first time that day, he felt his own skills had somewhere worthy to go. And I did not need to be managed. Every pose I moved into was precisely what the shot required, and not one frame felt like something he would want to discard.

Compared to what the previous shoot had produced, there was simply no comparison. The distance between a pretty face and a real model was the distance between two entirely different worlds.

He asked me to try several more expressions across different themes. Flirtatious, sorrowful, innocent, seductive. I delivered each one within seconds, shifting between them through nothing more than my eyes and the careful placement of my hands. He began to applaud.

This was what the Oriental Trend actually looked like.

Chapter 47

After my solo shoot wrapped up, I stepped out of the studio to let the crew change the set while I went to put on a new outfit. When I got back to the waiting room, though, Amara’s assistant was planted right at the door, staring me down with that familiar look of someone who thinks they hold power they don’t actually have.

"President Liam is inside. You’ll have to wait."

I glanced at him calmly, then simply pushed him aside and opened the door myself.

What greeted me inside was almost too familiar. Amara was sitting on Liam’s lap, the two of them lost in each other like the rest of the world didn’t exist. It was nearly identical to the night I had first caught them together, and I could tell by the way they made no effort to stop that they wanted me to feel it. They thought they had already won, and this was their way of rubbing it in.

But I wasn’t hurt. I wasn’t angry. I just looked at them with quiet mockery in my eyes, because that was genuinely all they deserved.

Amara clearly hadn’t expected me to walk in without hesitation. Seeing how unbothered I was threw her off, and she couldn’t quite carry on with what she’d been doing. Liam caught on quickly too, and shifted her off his lap with a casual, "We’ll continue back at the hotel tonight."

Amara seized the moment. "I love you, Liam," she said, loud and proud, making sure I heard every word. As far as she was concerned, she had taken the best thing I ever had.
