Chapter 323: Side: Greeting the two Pets

After Axel had left, Beatrix didn’t dare dally.

She was probably the busiest among everyone except Fenrir. After all, literally everything had to pass through her in the form of paperwork.

Although she was training people to take over her job, predicting that she would soon need to step down, they weren’t ready just yet. As such, almost 99% of the work still passed through her hands, filtered, and then passed to Axel only when the things only he could decide on were concerned.

The mountain of files on Axel’s side was basically just scraps compared to Beatrix’s daily paperwork!

However, today, she did her best to finish everything in a few hours.

After all, today, the report from AZF was supposed to come in. And since it was the first one, Beatrix wanted to go onsite and check how they handled it. If they needed further training or explanation, and so on.

By her lonesome, Beatrix jumped into the Interdimensional Teleporter, selecting the AZF dimension as the destination.

After a bright flash of light, she felt weightless for a brief moment. When she felt her weight return and the light before her eyes fade away, she slowly flicked her eyes open.

Around her stood a few members of Zareen Kingdom’s men, pointing spears and rifles straight at her. From their gaze, it was obvious they didn’t know who she was. Wary, nervous, fingers tight around their weapons.

Seeing that they were at least alert, Beatrix smiled and nodded approvingly—though her next words didn’t quite match the smile.

"Watching the exit is good and all, but pointing your weapons directly at the one arriving could lead to great misunderstandings."

Beatrix reprimanded them before the other side could even ask anything of her. Her tone was light, almost instructional. The kind of voice that made criticism feel worse precisely because it didn’t raise itself.

"Like this, if you displease a guest, you might end up displeasing your queen or our king. Are you prepared for the consequences of that?"

"Hiss...! Y-You...!"

One of the men felt slighted and tried to stab Beatrix with an angry scowl. However, she casually caught the blade between two fingers, not even shifting her weight, continuing to reprimand them as if nothing had happened.

"In the first place, arriving by teleporter activates a brief barrier upon arrival. You can’t dispatch the other party until after five seconds have passed, when the barrier dissolves naturally."

The soldier whose weapon got caught was starting to panic.

No matter what he did, push or pull, Beatrix’s fingers didn’t even budge! Just as she planned to de-stress by lecturing the men in the hall...

"Administrator Beatrix!"

Only for a panicked, rushed voice to call her name from the door.

Turning, Beatrix quickly found a familiar face covered with a thick veil. It was Queen Sharika, along with two of her maids in the same attire. In their hands were stacks of paper—presumably reports regarding the management of AZF while Axel’s team was away.

Queen Sharika’s eyes moved to Beatrix, then to her finger pinching a spear tip, then to the soldier who was still trying to pull his weapon free even now.

"Fool!" She growled. "That person is an envoy of King Axel! Don’t you recall their faces?!"

It was an angry voice that Beatrix heard for the first time coming from the usually calm queen. Such a change in demeanor was enough to make everyone realize their mistakes. Especially the one who had tried stabbing the "envoy."

"F-Forgive us, our great Queen!" They quickly apologized together.

Though Beatrix didn’t miss the bitter expression of the one who attacked her. Seeing this, a thought quickly passed through her mind and she asked casually.

"Could he be... a remnant of the men brainwashed by Envy?"

"...!"

Seeing Queen Sharika’s shoulders twitch in shock was answer enough.

She’d had no idea. Not even a suspicion. And now that she heard it said aloud, the pieces fell together uncomfortably fast—the hostility, the bitter expression, the way he’d gone for a stabbing rather than a warning.

"Someone, drag this man to the interrogation room! Make sure to get all information from him!" She commanded, her earlier calm completely gone.

With literally no delay whatsoever, the two soldiers on either side of the accused grabbed him by the arm. He was neutralized before he could even think to fight back!

"Let go of me! Don’t you know who I am? I’m...!"

THUD!

The soldier kept thrashing about, making it difficult to deliver him quietly. That was until a third soldier decided enough was enough and bumped the stock of his rifle against the man’s nape.

Instantly, he went limp, breathing weakly... Still alive, thankfully.

Although he turned heavier after fainting, the soldiers had no difficulty dragging him out. Queen Sharika, her maids, and even Beatrix just watched until all of them disappeared around the corner.

"So... Is that the reports?" Beatrix asked, changing the topic fast.

Her intentions were clear to Queen Sharika, who smiled in understanding.

"Yes, Administrator Beatrix. This here is the report after we took over the operations of the defense fortress. And this other stack is the requests from our people, along with material requests from various sectors."

"Just call me Beatrix, Queen Sharika." She smiled. "Anyway, I’m just here to supervise and check, since this is the first time you’ll be using the interdimensional teleporter to transport documents."

"Is that so. Then I’m relieved. I was actually worried since we don’t have anyone experienced on our side to operate the teleporter."

"That’s fine then. Shall we begin?"

After a short chat, Beatrix watched as a maid began operating it from memory. She selected the saved coordinate and prepared for the jump. Easy as that. Then Queen Sharika, Beatrix, and the two maids stepped into the middle of the formation, waiting for its activation.

A moment later, along with a brief, bright flash, they had already arrived in Axevaria.

The moment Queen Sharika stepped into the wide plaza, the first thing she saw was, of course, the gigantic World Tree a short distance away. It was far too eye-catching to miss—towering, luminous, its canopy spread so wide it almost looked like a second sky.

"This is..."

She trailed off, words failing her entirely.

"That’s the World Tree’s sapling."

Beatrix explained quickly, giving her only a second to breathe before moving on.

"And also, greet the two guards of the portal. Whenever you come here, they would be the ones to greet you."

"Huh?"

Hearing her urging, Queen Sharika turned around and saw two gigantic creatures.

Each curled up like a sleepy cat, snoozing quietly.

Seeing them, the queen’s eyes went wide as her trembling fingers pointed forward.

"D-D-Dra..." She stuttered before suddenly...

THUD!

"My Q-Queen?!"

"Oh no!"

From shock and fear, she fainted on the spot.
