Chapter 256: Chapter 256 - Continuing

Theo let out a bitter laugh.

’Kill the Skeleton King,’ he repeated internally. ’Yeah... and just how strong is this Skeleton King anyway?’

Feng didn’t answer immediately.

Only after a few moments did his voice calmly ring out once more.

’’When I encountered him, he was of similar strength to me,’’ he replied. ’’Only Primordial Beings stood above us.’’

Theo’s lips twitched into a wry smile.

’Right,’ he said internally. ’Guess that’s not going to happen for a long time.’

He slowly leaned back against his seat.

’I’m guessing that’s something far above our Obsidian Core?’

’’Yes and no,’’ Feng replied. ’’There aren’t that many stages. It’s just that the gap between each stage is unimaginably vast.’’

Theo waved his hand dismissively.

’That’s the same thing,’ he thought. ’Either way, it’s so far out of reach that it doesn’t matter.’

For a brief moment, silence settled between them once more.

Theo watched Jim use two large ice spears to wipe out two creatures instantly before casually driving past them.

Finally, there was still one question that remained on his mind.

’Feng... do you know why he’s still unconscious right now?’

’’Yes,’’ Feng replied without hesitation.

Theo immediately turned towards Owen.

His best friend remained fast asleep, his breathing calm and steady despite everything that had happened.

’’During your previous battle, he drew upon an overwhelming amount of the undead mana,’’ Feng explained. ’’For a short period, it became the dominant force within his bloodline.’’

’’His body is now dealing with the aftermath of that imbalance.’’

’’Once the undead mana recedes and his regular bloodline elements regains control, he should awaken naturally.’’

Theo felt a huge weight lift off his heart.

Letting out a deep breath, he slowly leaned back into his seat.

’Thank god,’ he thought.

’’Theo!’’

Jim’s voice suddenly echoed from the front of the buggy.

Theo immediately snapped out of his thoughts and looked ahead.

Several loud cries began echoing through the air from the left and right.

’’It’s your turn,’’ Jim said, pointing ahead. ’’A large D-rank Dune Jackal group.’’

Theo followed his gaze right away.

A pack of well over a hundred small wolf-like creatures stood on top of the dunes surrounding them.

The moment their eyes locked onto the buggy, dozens more shrill cries began echoing through the air.

’’I’ll take care of it,’’ he nodded, hanging out the side of the buggy.

Wind rapidly whipped through Theo’s hair as he finally stood on top of the speeding buggy.

Dozens of Jackals had already started sprinting down the dunes, their tongues hanging out of their mouths.

Theo simply flicked his fingers.

Four large lightning bolts appeared by his side immediately.

Whoosh!

They shot off into the sky.

The bolts split up into two groups that rapidly began swirling around each other.

Slowly, dark clouds began forming in the clear sky as faint rumbles began echoing through the air.

Golden lightning began crackling through them before rapidly gathering at two locations.

Several of the jackals immediately slowed down, their heads snapping up to the sky.

Before any of them could react, two colossal lightning beams shot down from the clouds.

BOOM! BOOM!

One beam slammed down on the left of the buggy, another on the right.

The desert ground shook violently, glass shards flying out everywhere.

In an instant, the leading packs of jackals disintegrated on both sides.

The remaining jackals froze in place as whines and growls spread through the pack.

For a moment, everything went silent.

Then, within seconds, the entire remaining pack turned around and fled in every direction without daring to look back.

Theo chuckled faintly as he watched them disappear.

’’It’s done,’’ he said as he climbed back inside the buggy.

"Nice one," Jim said, giving him a thumbs-up.

Theo nodded once before sitting back down.

Just like that, they continued racing across the desert.

Time gradually flew by.

One group of beasts appeared after another.

Fortunately, none of them posed much of a threat to the group.

At some point, Theo summoned Feng once more to the delight of the others.

Whenever he sensed another group approaching, Theo, Iris, or Jim would simply step in before returning to the buggy a few moments later.

Hours gradually turned into an almost repetitive cycle of fighting and travelling.

Yet despite that... something slowly began changing.

The creatures began appearing far more frequently.

At some point, there weren’t even fifteen minutes between new groups anymore.

’This must’ve been the center of the beast tide,’ Theo thought, glancing out over the desert. ’Let’s hope we make it out of this soon...’

Jim, Lyra, and Iris’s smiles had long disappeared, leaving only tension on their faces.

’’Should we go around?’’ Jim asked, his grip tightening on the wheel. ’’Even if it costs us more time...’’

Iris slowly began nodding too.

’’No!’’ Lyra said, shaking her head immediately. ’’Think about Owen.’’

Theo remained silent for a moment longer.

Finally, he glanced up at the others with a serious expression.

’’If we keep going like this, the chances of encountering the King Cobra will only keep increasing.’’

The buggy went quiet in an instant.

Lyra’s determined expression slowly began faltering.

’’B-but Owen,’’ she muttered quietly.

Neither Jim nor Iris responded, each lost in their own conflicted thoughts.

Even Theo was lost in his own thoughts for a moment.

While he clearly knew Owen would eventually wake up on his own, reassuring them of that was a completely different story.

It would be yet another story added to the pile of inexplicable things he’d shown them over the past few days.

And he clearly understood.

If there were too many of those situations... they’d eventually lose trust in him.

’I really have to explain more things as time passes by,’ he thought, clenching his fists.

But that wasn’t important at the moment.

Right now, as the leader of the group, he needed to make a decision.

’’Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against continuing like this,’’ he finally said, glancing at Lyra. ’’But only if you all agree on it.’’

Lyra’s eyes lit up for a moment.

Her gaze immediately shot towards Jim and Iris.

Iris was the first to nod.

’’Let’s do it,’’ she said lightly.

Jim dragged a hand through his blond hair before letting out a sigh.

’’You lot are crazy,’’ he said, pressing down on the accelerator.

Even so, there wasn’t a single bit of hesitation left on his face anymore.

’’Let’s do this.’’
