Chapter 252: Chapter 252 - Civilization?!

Exhaling slowly, Theo’s mind wandered back to just half an hour earlier.

No matter how many times he replayed it in his mind, he just couldn’t make sense of what had happened.

’It was so different from normal,’ he thought. ’Yes, I poured in an absurd amount of mana...’

’But what appeared wasn’t the Gold Core stage or something.’

It was almost like it had become an entirely different spell... or rather, two spells being used simultaneously.

’That hand,’ he thought, his brows furrowing. ’What was it even?’

It had reached through the door and grabbed the dragon’s breath with ease.

Not to mention, once the attack sat in its claws, it had started flickering into different shapes and forms.

’It looked exactly like back then,’ he thought, memories flashing through his mind.

The first time he’d awakened the element and the first time he’d created a Chaos Door had both shown him places with similar properties.

Theo slowly closed his eyes.

Even back then, he had no answer to what was happening.

’The longer I use the Chaos element... the more mysterious it gets.’

A quiet sigh escaped his lips.

There was no point thinking about it any longer.

He simply didn’t know enough.

Every possibility he came up with only raised more questions.

Theo slowly turned onto his side inside the sleeping bag.

His exhausted body was already protesting the fact that he was still awake.

’I’ll figure it out another day,’ he thought. ’Once we’re completely out of danger, that is.’

Within moments of his eyes closing, he fell into a deep sleep.

’’Theo,’’ Iris’ voice rang out softly.

She shook his body lightly, causing his brows to twitch.

Slowly opening his eyes, Theo felt the warm sunlight burning on his face.

’’Ugh,’’ he muttered, rolling onto his side.

The aching feeling throughout his body had completely disappeared, alongside his exhaustion.

Even his core felt almost completely back to normal.

’’What time is it?’’ he asked, rubbing his eyes.

’’The sun only just came up,’’ Iris replied quietly.

Theo glanced around for a moment, finding Lyra and Jim wide awake too.

Only Owen lay motionless inside his sleeping bag.

’’He still hasn’t woken up?’’ he muttered worriedly.

Iris shook her head.

’’Not yet.’’

A heavy silence fell inside the tent.

Theo let out a quiet breath before climbing to his feet.

’’One of us will have to carry him then,’’ he said. ’’As we’ll begin moving right away.’’

Jim nodded without hesitation.

"I’ll do it."

He crouched beside Owen before carefully lifting him onto his back.

Despite the added weight, his expression barely changed.

Theo watched him for a moment.

"You sure?"

Jim gave a small shrug.

Before he could say a word, Lyra interrupted him.

’’I’ll just let one of my summons carry him,’’ she said. ’’In fact, we should all travel on top of them.’’

Iris immediately glanced at her.

’’But your mana...’’

’’It’s fine,’’ Lyra said, nodding once. ’’You three are far stronger than me anyway.’’

She glanced back at Owen.

’’Besides, we really need to find a town fast.’’

Theo thought about it for a moment before nodding.

"Alright,’’ he said. ’’That sounds like a plan.’’

Lyra immediately raised her hand.

A swirling white mass appeared beside her before several streams of light shot out.

Within moments, a tiger with two long tails, a large harpy, and an even larger blue manta appeared before the group.

The three summons immediately glanced back at Lyra.

The tiger let out a low growl, its two tails swaying lazily behind it.

The harpy folded its massive wings against its sides, its golden eyes carefully scanning the surrounding desert.

Meanwhile, the giant blue manta gently hovered a few feet above the sand, its broad body slowly rising and falling as though it were swimming through invisible water.

’’Bluey,’’ Lyra called out lightly. ’’Lower down, please.’’

The manta immediately drifted over and lowered itself to the ground.

’’We’ll take the tiger,’’ Theo said, pulling Iris along.

Iris stumbled after him before climbing onto the beast’s broad back.

It didn’t take long before the four of them had sat down on their beasts.

Only Jim stood on the ground, his expression dark.

’Really?’ he thought. ’I’m the third wheel again?’

The harpy let out a low chirp as it lowered itself in front of him.

Without another thought, Jim climbed on top of it.

Lyra slowly looked around.

’’Everyone ready?’’ she asked.

Receiving a nod from each of them, she gently patted the manta beneath her.

’’Let’s go.’’

All three beasts shot forward simultaneously.

Compared to walking, their speed was incomparably faster.

’Let’s hope this goes smoothly,’ Theo thought, holding onto Iris and the tiger tightly. ’I still haven’t heard a word from Feng...’

Time passed by rapidly as they ran through the desert.

Occasionally, they’d rest so Lyra could regain her mana; other times they’d fight groups of creatures together.

But after nearly six entire hours, Lyra’s harpy let out a loud cry.

’’What is it?’’ Lyra asked, her head snapping up.

Jim slowly climbed to the top of his harpy, a hand above his squinted eyes as he stared into the distance.

For several seconds, he remained completely silent.

Then he slowly glanced down at the others, a massive smile on his face.

’’Guys...’’ he shouted. ’’I see something in the distance!’’

Theo glanced up right away, his eyes widening.

’’What do you see?’’

Jim pointed toward the horizon.

’’Over there! Just behind the dunes!’’ he shouted. ’’I think I see buildings!’’

Theo immediately followed his gaze.

At first, he couldn’t see anything other than dunes.

But as they got closer and closer, a large sandstone wall appeared on the horizon.

’’A city!’’ Theo almost shouted as relief flooded his body. ’’We’ve finally found a city!’’

As they drew closer, more details gradually became visible.

Tall watchtowers lined the massive sandstone wall, while armored guards stood on top of it with weapons in hand.

Hell, there were even some people walking outside the walls!
