Chapter 228: Chapter 228 - Mana Bomb And Shadow Cloak

Theo stared at the core for a few seconds longer.

Then he winced and reached into his pocket, pulling out the credit card Alia had given him.

One of the staff members immediately came over with a smile.

’’How may I help you, sir?’’ she asked politely.

’’I’ll take twenty,’’ he said, pointing at the wind cores.

The employee blinked once, slowly following the direction he pointed.

’’The A-rank Wind Cores?’’ she asked.

Theo nodded casually.

’’Yes, and it doesn’t matter which creature they are from either.’’

The employee’s expression didn’t change.

She bowed politely and held up a payment device.

’’Of course, sir,’’ she said. ’’Please pay here, and we’ll have it ready by the entrance for when you leave.’’

With much reluctance, Theo raised his card and swiped it.

The machine immediately flashed a confirmation sign.

And just like that, he’d lost twenty-four million dollars in one transaction.

’At least it’s enough for twenty weeks,’ he thought, nearly crying inside.

Behind him, Jim and Iris stared at him with strange expressions.

Neither of them could see how Theo had any use for these cores, unless he was trying to get a piece of equipment made.

’’Theo...’’ Jim finally started. ’’What exactly are you planning to do with twenty A-rank Wind Cores?’’

Theo turned back to them, still stashing his credit card away.

With a simple smile, he responded.

’’It’s a secret for now.’’

Jim and Iris stared at him even more confused now.

’’That’s... suspicious,’’ Jim muttered.

Iris only smiled as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

’’If you need an item made, just tell me,’’ she said lightly. ’’Our family has some of the best blacksmiths in the world.’’

Chuckling lightly, Theo nodded once.

’’I’ll do that in the future,’’ he said. ’’As for these cores... you’ll find out soon.’’

Seeing he clearly wasn’t planning to explain, neither Jim nor Iris pushed any further.

Instead, the three continued deeper into the hall.

’I need something else,’ Theo thought, browsing. ’My weapons are sufficient, I have the Emerald Heart necklace, spatial stones, and the protection robe...’

If he was going to purchase a piece of equipment, it’d have to be one of three things.

Mental attack protection, utility, or something related to movement and concealment.

But that was easier said than done!

Equipment that protected the soul was rarer than rare, while utility and escape-related equipment had to be a perfect fit.

Theo’s gaze swept over hundreds of pedestals, carefully reading each description.

’Most are useful, that’s for sure,’ he thought. ’But just not useful enough...’

Especially not for the millions these items were going for.

Finally, after what felt like forever, Theo came to a halt in front of a dark cloak.

’Shadow Cloak,’ he read. ’Allows the user to merge with shadows at a severely increased mana cost.’

Theo’s brows slowly rose.

’Now that’s kind of interesting,’ he thought.

He’d only ever fought one strong shadow mage, and he’d left quite the impression on him.

’Though that impression came from the blood element...’

Even so, he hadn’t forgotten how easily that psychopath had slipped away using the shadows.

Theo’s eyes slowly drifted toward the price tag beneath it.

’Eighteen million dollars...’ he read, his eyelids twitching. ’Everything useful truly is ridiculously expensive.’

Still, the more he thought about it, the more he liked the artifact.

His lightning affinity already gave him explosive speed.

If he could also disappear into the shadows, escaping dangerous situations or catching opponents off guard would become far easier.

Not to mention infiltrating certain locations or gathering information without being seen.

Overall, it was an extremely practical piece of equipment.

Theo silently took out his card.

His heart ached as he slid it through the payment device.

’’Nice one,’’ Jim said, raising his thumb behind him. ’’Suits you perfectly.’’

Theo nodded slowly as a staff member came to take the cloak out of the pedestal.

’’Excellent choice,’’ the man said. ’’It’ll be packed up and left at the entrance alongside your other items.’’

Theo gave a small nod before the three continued walking through the hall once more.

Now that he’d found one useful artifact, his expectations had risen considerably.

’There has to be something else,’ he thought.

As they chatted while walking, it didn’t take long before Theo’s gaze landed on a very strange item.

’’What’s that?’’ he asked, pointing at the pedestal.

Iris and Jim both looked over right away.

Upon first glance, Iris’s eyes lit up.

’’That’s a mana bomb,’’ she said, walking over. ’’And quite a strong one.’’

Following after her, Theo stared at the round metal object no larger than a tennis ball.

Countless blue runes were inscribed on the metal ball, while the pedestal itself had more than twenty different barriers around it.

’’Looks pretty dangerous if it’s that well protected,’’ he muttered, leaning closer.

Iris nodded right away.

’’Judging by the runes and size,’’ she started. ’’That one seems to have an A-rank explosion sealed inside.’’

Theo’s eyes widened right away.

’’If something like that went off here...’’

Iris nodded once more, though with a smile now.

’’It’d take out this entire building and obliterate anyone inside.’’

Both Jim and Theo gulped.

Though, Theo’s gaze couldn’t help but fall on the information plaque underneath.

’Fifteen million dollars,’ he thought, sucking in a deep breath. ’All that for a single-use artifact?’

But he could clearly see how broken it could be.

All one needed to do was inject a bit of mana into it, after which it’d stick to the opponent until detonation.

There was no running from that!

’Anyone under the Diamond Core stage would probably die on the spot,’ he thought, amazed.

Normally, he would’ve dismissed it on the spot due to how expensive it was.

But as he thought about the previous months... the Calamity Covenant, the Whitmores, and the countless other enemies he’d made...

Theo took his card out of his pocket once more.

’This could be a good final insurance policy,’ he thought. ’After all, I can always teleport away with my spatial stones.’
