Chapter 225: Chapter 225 - Time For A Spending Streak!
Theo woke up early the next morning, feeling completely refreshed.
’Let’s get started,’ he thought, jumping out of bed.
As he got himself dressed, faint noises from the living room echoed through the walls.
’Eh?’ he thought, raising an eyebrow. ’Feng hasn’t returned yet?’
Peeking around the corner, he found the unicorn floating on its emerald cloud in the exact same spot as the night before.
The screen flashed brightly in front of him while soft voices echoed through the room.
Unable to withhold his curiosity, Theo walked over.
’’You stayed up all night?’’ he asked, tilting his head faintly.
Feng’s cloud slowly turned around, its emerald eyes wide open.
’’I did.’’
Theo stared at it for a moment, slightly concerned.
’’Do you... not get bored of these programs?’’
’’No,’’ the unicorn shook its head. ’’This television object gave me a far better understanding of your civilization.’’
For a moment, the room fell silent outside the television noise.
Theo’s eyes darted between the unicorn and the cooking competition that was currently playing.
As Feng followed his gaze, he nodded thoughtfully.
’’I have learned much.’’
’’Oh?’’
’’I have to commend your civilization,’’ it continued. ’’Despite its backwards power system, this level of peace and unity is something I’ve never seen before.’’
Theo almost choked.
Peace and unity? Even beasts worked better together than humans!
’’Competing through non-violent competitions to settle rankings peacefully,’’ the unicorn stated proudly. ’’What a truly magnificent idea.’’
Letting out a dry laugh, Theo quickly shook his head.
’’I think you’ve misunderstood a few things.’’
Feng tilted his head.
’’Have I?’’
Theo pointed to the television with a smile.
’’People join shows like that because they enjoy cooking or want to earn money and status. It has nothing to do with real fighting and power.’’
The little unicorn blinked once.
Its eyes slowly narrowed as it nodded its head.
’’Interesting... then I shall use this television thing to improve my understanding.’’
Theo smiled faintly.
He picked up the remote and switched to the most popular broadcaster for hunter-related news.
’’Watch that instead,’’ he said, tossing the remote aside. ’’I’m making myself some food.’’
The unicorn didn’t even hear him.
Instead, it quietly floated back in front of the television.
Minutes ticked by as Theo began preparing his own food.
Only, halfway through the process, he paused.
’’Right, Feng,’’ he called out, glancing over. ’’What do you eat?’’
As if the magic words had been said, Feng’s cloud began turning around.
’’At my current stage, concentrated wind mana,’’ it said. ’’Something similar to the green core you brought.’’
Theo paused for a moment.
’That was an S-rank core...’ he thought, his mouth opening slightly.
If Feng truly needed those for food... it wouldn’t take long before he’d be homeless once again!
Feng immediately noticed the subtle change in Theo’s expression.
’’Is something wrong?’’ it asked.
Quickly forcing a smile, Theo shook his head.
’’No, nothing,’’ he said. ’’But how often do you need to consume those?’’
Feng looked at him for a moment before giving a small shake of its head.
’’You misunderstood,’’ it said. ’’I only need the same form of mana.
"The core you offered me yesterday was far beyond what I can currently absorb."
Theo blinked once.
"So... you don’t actually need something that expensive?"
Feng shook its head right away.
’’Something less potent would be considerably more suitable.’’
Relief flooded through Theo’s body.
’I don’t have to buy S-rank cores just to feed him,’ he thought, letting out a deep breath.
Continuing with his own food, he slowly began nodding.
’’I’ll take you shopping later,’’ Theo said lightly. ’’You’ll just have to show me what you need then.’’
The little unicorn nodded once.
Then it began turning back to the television once more.
Several minutes later, Theo carried his breakfast over to the couch before taking a seat.
He quietly ate while occasionally glancing at the screen.
"...You’re really interested in all of this, huh?" he asked.
Feng nodded without looking away.
"I know almost nothing about this world,’’ it said. "I’ve also discovered that understanding a civilization is impossible through strength alone."
Falling silent for a moment, Theo couldn’t help but nod slowly.
’’Impressive.’’
As he began eating, a question suddenly popped up in his mind.
’Right,’ he thought. ’The system.’
It was supposed to pop up again yesterday.
Yet, he hadn’t seen it.
Without another thought, the blue screens appeared in front of him.
[WYR Cooldown: 00:12:00:21]
’Eh?’ he thought. ’Twelve hours still?’
Without warning, a smaller screen popped up.
[Note: All time spent inside alternate planes with sped-up time does not count toward system cooldowns.]
Theo blinked once.
’’Seriously?’’
He stared at the message for several seconds before letting out a helpless sigh.
"So all that time didn’t even count..."
Thinking back on it, it actually made sense.
The system had transported his consciousness into another plane where time flowed differently.
If, in the future, he went into a plane where time ran slower, he’d be able to farm Would You Rathers there.
’A shame,’ he thought.
With a flick of his finger, he closed the notification.
His gaze returned to the main interface.
’Just twelve hours,’ he thought, smiling slightly. ’I can wait that long.’
He’d already thought about what he’d do in the meantime.
First off, it was time to finally start shopping for great equipment and Kirin food.
But with the amount of money he had, there was no way he could go to some ordinary place.
And the best way to find places where rich people spent their money?
Naturally, it was by contacting people with such wealth!
Theo reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.
There were two people that came to mind, both having incredibly wealthy families.
’Iris and Jim,’ he thought, smiling.
Quickly sending both a text, Theo wanted to put his phone away again.
Bzzzt!
A response had already come back.
As he opened the message, a large smile appeared on his face.
’’Feng,’’ he called out. ’’It’s time to go!’’
