Chapter 29: Ch69. New era - 2

On the TV, internet, anywhere in the media and social media services, the entire world was in a state of upheaval.

*The US government has met the Ishir Commander, Rhegal Vir’Dun, this morning, with the supervision of the president of the Wielders Association, Luther Leighton.*

*The Commander of the Ishir, Rhegal Vir’Dun has been officially acknowledged as Earth’s envoy and Ally.*

<TomH675: First we had strange distortions pouring monsters into our world, and now aliens? Really?>

<GiorgioATField: What were you expecting, man? Aliens. It’s always been aliens.>

Rhegal and a few of his soldiers scattered across the nations, talking with the highest authorities about what they knew, carefully omitting the parts about parallel realities or alternate world-lines.

However, Octavius had requested that he and his guild accompanied the Ishir envoys to their destinations.

And Rhegal had requested vehemently that Octavius’ boy, Kurt Blake, accompanied them too.

But before the world changed, before mankind understood the true shape of the menace that collided with the Earth, before the wielders found out they’ve been played with by the unknown power of Kha’Ur’s...

"Dad..." Kurt addressed Octavius by his side, in front of Nina’s coffin, slowly descending into the grave.

"Yes, son?"

"What happens now? I mean... Mom is... Dead... I awakened, and you have the Guardian guild to take care of. So... What now?"

Octavius didn’t have a good filter for situations, and his son had taken after him on that front. As Nina descended and they said their last goodbyes, they exchanged words about the future, with a strange coldness that probably was due their recent loss, or the hatred they bottled up within themselves.

But something changed in them.

"Now that you awakened, you can’t stay at Belmont High. But I need to know what you want, and I will understand if you tell me that you don’t -"

"I want to become a wielder." Kurt shot out, even before Octavius was done speaking.

His eyes went wide for a split second but he recomposed himself and retorted.

"But aren’t you... Afraid of what happened?"

"Dad..." Kurt looked at Octavius with a determination so close to rage that a shiver ran down his spine. "I awakened, it means I might have the power to fight back. To get... Revenge for what happened."

After that, the rest of Nina’s funeral was Silence, tears and prayers.

Octavius kept silent until they got home, when he stopped his son and looked in his eyes.

"Kurt... I have something to tell you, but you can’t ask me anything about it. Just listen to what I have to say, and then you decide what you want to do. Although I think you’ve already decided..."

Kurt wanted to go to his room, to check on the system properly, since he had been busy with everything that had happened until then, but he kept silent, waiting for his father to say what he wanted to.

Octavius nodded and started speaking.

"If you want, I can send you to the Boston Academy, where the most prestigious guilds gather their wielders from. But I wouldn’t get mad if you decided to join a less dangerous field of work, like-"

"Dad..." Kurt interrupted in a low voice, tired and a bit bitter. "I don’t remember the shape of the creature that killed mom, but if I become a wielder, I’ll get to raid the Nests, and eventually I’ll stumbled upon the damn Beast. Please... I already made my choice, so send me to the Boston Academy, and I’ll get through hell and back if it means killing the Beast that took mom from us."

Octavius sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"Okay. But what if you end up earning a low rank?"

"I’ll grow stronger, and that’s not a matter to be discussed, dad. I know the wielder’s power is fixed, but I’ll find a way. You taught me a lot about the guild for me to know that you have a lot on your plate right now, even more because of the Ishir, so you can’t take this vengeance from me, since you won’t be able to get it yourself..."

An unknown shadow passed through Kurt’s expression as Octavius glared at him.

"I’m still your father, so mind your manners and language when addressing me..."

"Sorry, dad." Kurt looked down. "I’m just..."

"Angry, I know. But I hope you soon learn that anger and hatred can lead you to dark places, and make you lose control of the outcome. Now go to bed, tomorrow’s a new day, and we have much to do."

"Yes, dad, thank you."

Kurt didn’t hug Octavius this time, but his father didn’t mind that.

He thought that it was protdue to everything that had happened. The stress and tension that Kurt felt by waking up after two years, awakening, and losing his mother soon after.

It surely was too much for a 15 year old kid to take, and Octavius was a patient man, so he just looked at his son as he vanished through the corridor and up the staircase to his room.

’Right, the system had gone back to functioning properly when the dragon-like Beast ran away. Let’s see what this system looks like...’ Kurt thought as he laid on his bed, recalling his older version’s words in the [HIDDEN ROOM].

’All you need is to think of what you need from the system. Whether it’s the stats window or any other, just think of it and the system will make it pop up in front of you.’

’Let’s see... Stat window.’

And the holographic-looking pop-up window appeared in front of him with his information.

[NAME: Kurt Blake]

[AGE: 15]

[LEVEL: 01]

[CLASS: ???]

[HP: 105]

[MP: 50]

[BASIC STATS]

[Strength: 10

Agility: 12

Dexterity: 09

Perception: 10

Intelligence: 05

Vigor: 15]

Kurt looked at the stat window and analyzed the data in front of him.

’I can’t understand why my agility is higher than my dexterity, but if the stat parameters fit a normal human being, it only makes sense that some of the stats are lower than the others. Judging by the fact that I basically just woke up from a two-year coma...’

He kept going through the system windows and thinking about the possibilities, until he reached a particular window that made him raise his brow.

"What the hell is this...?"
