Kurt’s eyes went wide as he fell along with Zaval towards the sidewalk.
It was a lot of information to take in, but he was stunned by the power and possibilities offered by being proven worthy to Wulfir.
’I guess your spirit still lives within this armor, somehow...’
The smile on Kurt’s lips was almost as bright as Zaval’s flames, about to leave his mouth at any moment.
Yet, Kurt just couldn’t stop smiling, taking a strange frown from Zaval’s face with his open maw.
"You know that this is a world of dark nights, and that tonight is especially dark, right?"
Zaval didn’t give time for Kurt to keep talking.
The bright fire exploded from within the Ishir’s mouth, right after Kurt finished speaking.
But when Zaval looked forward, hoping to see Kurt’s ashes floating around, he saw nothing.
Kurt wasn’t there.
He wasn’t anywhere to be seen.
’[SHADOW TRAVEL]’ Kurt thought, activating the skill, right when the fire almost licked his face.
For less than a second, everything around him became pure, pitch-black darkness.
And when the night unfolded around him again, he was at the building entrance, up and whole.
Alive and well.
"Holy shit..." His smile grew even larger, turning into a wicked grin. "I won’t let you get away easily, Zaval..."
Kurt saw when Zaval unfolded his tattered wings and they began regenerating, slowing his fall.
"Oh, no. You won’t." Kurt’s grin became more like an insane smile as he thought about his new skill.
And as he activated it, the darkness around the street began gathering towards a single spot.
Below Zaval.
And as it emerged from the street, it formed an enormous fist, that grabbed Zaval in mid-air, right when he tried to fly away from the fight.
Zaval felt the huge hand grabbing him with far more strength than he could muster to get away.
And the next thing he saw, was the street approaching at insane speed.
He felt the impact in his whole body, as blood spurted from all his pores.
Kurt kept using the shadow hand to hold Zaval down as he approached.
"Lucky for you, you have that regeneration skill, and I know you still have one more form to change to, so I’m well aware that you won’t die just now." He crouched down, staring at Zaval with inexpressive eyes. "I’ll take my time with you, and you will answer to what I ask you."
"BLERGH!" Zaval vomited a mouthful of blood. "If you think you’re going to know anything about the grand scheme of things from my mouth, you’re far too naive, virus."
He said that word like he was spitting something disgusting out.
"Why do you call me virus?" Kurt asked.
Zaval just spat out some more blood, silent, but his body was more healed than before.
Kurt raised the shadow hand again, slamming Zaval to the concrete one more time, harder than before.
Zaval screamed in pain as he felt his bones breaking all at once.
"I guess you’re not so familiarized with pain, are you? Why do you call me virus?"
Zaval’s answer was, again, silence, after he was done vomiting blood and screaming from pain.
Kurt sighed, slightly frustrated, but that was when he had an idea.
He grinned, as he let the shadow hand go of Zaval, allowing the darkness to return to the street, forming something like an enormous puddle underneath them.
"You... COUGH! BLERGH! Gave up so easily... Virus..." Zaval got up, stumbling.
Kurt’s grin remained on his face as he calmly spoke, nonchalantly putting his hands on the armor’s belt.
"Oh, but I didn’t give up yet."
Kurt moved his hands almost as if he was conducting an orchestra, and the shadow puddle under them began bubbling, like boiling liquid.
And as the bubbles burst, tiny droplets of shadow began floating the air, slowly floating towards Zaval.
His eyes went wide, not knowing what could happen, so he let out another fire blast, but this time, upwards.
And he kept expelling fire from his throat, the blast becoming hotter and hotter.
The bright red turning into blue, brighter and brighter.
Until it lit up almost the entirety of the block with a white pillar of flames.
Zaval’s eyes turned towards Kurt, like a chameleon.
They silently said.
"See? Where are your precious shadows now?"
But Zaval’s eyes met Kurt’s unwavering grin, still.
"you see, the problem with light is that... The brighter the light..."
Zaval’s eyes turned down, and he understood what Kurt meant even before he finished speaking.
"The darker the shadow."
There was a small puddle of even thicker darkness than before, around Zaval’s feet.
It was his shadow.
’But now, it’s mine.’ Kurt thought.
And the shadow grabbed the Ishir by his feet.
However, it didn’t move him like before.
Instead, it was like the shadows were getting into the Ishir, drop by drop.
Until there was not a single piece of Zaval’s shadow left behind.
The Ishir’s eyes enlarged and became bloodshot.
"W-ha-t a-re y-ou d-o-i-ng...?" Zaval gagged, unable to move.
"Since you’re not gonna answer my questions willingly, I’m gonna make you answer them."
