Chapter 71: Ch110. Lost

Nikolai woke up to the weirdest sensation he had ever felt in his life.

When he saw the fairly huge black hairy face licking his face all over, Nikolai almost jumped backwards.

"What the... What?" He paid more attention as he regained full control over his senses.

What looked like just a black hairy face before, was in truth a fairly huge black puppy head with golden eyes that licked Nikolai from top to bottom, only stopping when the boy finally woke up.

"He’s a cutie, isn’t he?" He heard Evellyn’s voice behind him.

She was sitting on the ground alongside Cinthia, and there was another person there with them.

"The cutest, big and strong." Rodrick said, with the biggest smile on his face, as he walked towards the puppy to scratch behind his ears.

"But where did he come from?" Nikolai asked. "And where is Kurt? Why are we so far from the dorm? I remember..."

"The screech." Cinthia said.

She was walking around impatiently, looking around.

"Yeah... Even I heard it from here." Rodrick added. "And suddenly my legs felt weak. I don’t know if it was luck or my constitution that kept me awake, but it did, anyways."

"So it was you who brought us here?" Nikolai asked, getting up and dusting his clothes.

"Nope." Rodrick chuckled. "It was that cute puppy all the way."

The trio looked at the puppy, eyes wide in disbelief, and Nikolai shook his head.

The puppy tilted its head at them, its golden eyes questioning with a frowned brow.

"No way it was this... Small... Thing?" Nikolai said, still shaking his head and almost laughing at the scene that unfolded in his head. "No... That’s just fairytales, right?"

"What’s just fairytales, Nikita?" Evellyn asked, dusting her clothes and stretching out.

"Nothing." He shrugged, but after a moment, he looked around, raised a brow, and suddenly prepared to run. "We gotta go find Kurt, he was in trouble before we passed out!"

The puppy, then, started whining, almost like it was crying.

Evellyn looked at the puppy, and her jaw fell low.

"No..."

"No what?" Nikolai asked in unison with Cinthia. "Come on, we gotta go!"

"No..." Evellyn said again. "Professor... Can you feel any energy related to Kurt or the headmaster... No, that... Ishir...?"

Rodrick’s eyes glued to the ground.

"I’m sorry, kid..." He said, grievously. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"No..." Nikolai said, this time. "It can’t be, right? It... NO!"

He started running towards the direction of the Irregular’s Indigo dorm.

"NIKITA!?" Evellyn called out to him, but had no success.

He didn’t stop. Didn’t even look back.

"Let’s go. You want to find out what happened as much as Nikolai, right?"

Cinthia still looked around, but agreed with Rodrick.

Evellyn was already ahead of them, chasing Nikolai.

But when they arrived at the dorm, the scenario was just devastation.

The building was in ruins, and there were traces of a fierce battle all around.

But Kurt wasn’t anywhere to be found.

And neither was Rhegal.

"KURT?" Nikolai shouted. "WHERE ARE YOU, MY FRIEND?" He walked around, looking for him.

But had no success, so he kept shouting and shouting.

Not long after, Evellyn, Cinthia, and Rodrick arrived, but instead of calling for Kurt with Nikolai, Cinthia charged towards him and shushed him as hard as she could.

"Are you fucking crazy, man? What are you doing?" She held him by his shoulders.

"What are you talking about?" Nikolai asked, angrily. "I’m trying to find my friend!"

He tried to make her let go of him, but without his powers, his body felt as weak as a regular.

"Yeah! I can see that. But you’re also drawing undesired attention, can’t you fucking see that?"

But none of them saw it coming.

The group of students and professors that attacked them earlier in the day had returned, their eyes looked slightly empty, but they were all staring at the small group, angry.

"You’re..."

"Friends..."

"With Kurt Blake..."

"With the boy..."

"Who killed..."

"Master..." A few of them said, one after the other, like they had a single mind.

Evellyn searched for her weapon, but it was nowhere to be found, so she mustered all the courage she had, and assumed a fighting pose.

Nikolai and Cinthia did the same, but after a few seconds, all students and professors seemed to regain their senses.

They looked at each other, confused, and back to the trio.

"Kurt Blake killed commander Rhegal Vir’Dun, leader of the Ishir and ally to the humans. If you say you’re friends with them, will take you to the Wielders Association to be questioned. He just committed what...? Global treason?" One of the professors laughed at his own joke.

"What?" Evellyn said. "What are you guys talking about? You remember what happened, right?" She was flustered. "You were victims to that screech, too, right?"

But they didn’t seem to give any attention to what she was saying.

"Shit..." Rodrick sighed. "Rhegal’s mind-sharing ability probably isn’t his only power..."

"What do you mean?" Cinthia asked, glaring at Nikolai.

"He has an ability that can control a person’s mind, but it’s like sharing his mind with the target. But if he’s dead... It probably means that he has a full mind control ability, and that it doesn’t wear off when he dies..."

The crowd surrounded them and waited.

It didn’t look like they wanted to actually attack the quartet, but they still waited with weapons in hand and fighting positions.

"Did any of you notice that the puppy didn’t come along?" Rodrick hushed.

Suddenly, though, they heard the sound of steps coming from a bit far away.

BOOM!

The sound of the explosion echoed through the crowd, and a few students and professors flew away like nothing.

The crowd turned towards the sound, and Rodrick said.

"Now, get out, kids. You gotta find somewhere safe so you can try to recover your powers. Go!"

"But... Look!" Evellyn said, pointing at the center of the fight that was happening a few meters away from them. "It’s the... Puppy?" She said, with her brows up.

It was the puppy, but at the same time it didn’t look like it.

The only thing that made them believe it was the strange puppy, somehow, was the gleam in its golden eyes.

However, it had grown, somehow.

The puppy from before had turned into a huge...

"Diwerewolf..." Nikolai said in awe.

"And it’s..." Evellyn added.

"Helping us?" Cinthia couldn’t believe it, even though she was seeing it first hand.

And if it weren’t enough, Rodrick narrowed his eyes and paid close attention to the beast, his jaw dropping little by little.

"That fighting style, concise and without wasting movements... Isn’t it... Mr. Blake’s style?"

Kurt did his best to follow K’s train of thought, but nothing about that place made sense.

Kurt didn’t know what difference was there between his world and the world where he was at right then, that made a person become a beast if they ate them, or even what K meant when he said that about ’living long enough to become an animal, like the people upstairs’, so Kurt mustered his courage and spoke up.

"Okay, guys, How about you give some answers that I actually can understand, instead of saying all this nonsensical story about eating dead beasts and shit?"

K glared at Kurt, and he felt the silent threat even before their eyes met.

"I don’t care what you think about whatever I say, you can even try and kill me if you want. I want answers, and there are two ways I’m gonna step out of this place..."

K narrowed his eyes to a slit and raised his brow, as if asking something silently.

Kurt understood that and finished with a determined expression.

"Enlightened, or dead."
