Chapter 293: Chapter 162: Elder Zheng Takes Action
There were six courtyards in total. Four were slightly larger, each featuring a spacious main residence and side rooms. They were clearly designed to be the primary courtyards.
The other two, slightly smaller courtyards had only three side rooms and a few storage sheds, likely intended as the gatehouse and servants’ quarters.
These four larger courtyards were subtly arranged around the garden and rockery, corresponding to the east, west, south, and north.
Such an arrangement was quite common. However, since Chen Cheng had studied the classic texts on the Four Symbols in the study, he could see there was something extraordinary about it.
The four cardinal directions—east, west, south, and north—corresponded to the Cyan Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Xuanwu of the Four Symbols.
The courtyard to the east was on slightly higher ground. The adjacent rockery and trees were also taller, giving it the momentum of a Cyan Dragon raising its head.
To the west, the terrain was generally lower and flatter, but the courtyard’s architecture was solid and imposing, possessing the fearsome momentum of the White Tiger.
The southern Vermilion Bird courtyard and its grounds were more open, while the northern Xuanwu courtyard was backed by the tall structure of Mr. Zheng’s main residence. Each had its own unique presence.
Chen Cheng calmed his mind, slowly extending his right hand. He could faintly sense the overall energetic flow of the entire backyard. It seemed the Cyan Dragon Position was more suitable for him.
"How about we choose this eastern courtyard to live in?" Chen Cheng asked gently, a smile on his face.
Mu Xiaowan nodded and smiled sweetly. "Mmm."
Chen Cheng smiled faintly, wrapping an arm around Mu Xiaowan’s soft, slender waist and leading her into the garden.
This garden was far more spacious than one in an ordinary residence, spanning over a hundred feet. It was dotted with blooming flowers and shaded by lush green trees, creating an elegant landscape.
As they strolled along the garden’s bluestone path, Chen Cheng breathed in the crisp scent of the plants and the light, elegant fragrance that drifted from Mu Xiaowan. He felt his mind, for once, completely relax. He was utterly content, lost in the moment.
Mu Xiaowan snuggled against Chen Cheng’s side as they walked slowly. A faint, unconscious smile graced her breathtakingly beautiful face.
’In her heart, it didn’t matter whether they were in the shabby little courtyard on Locust Tree Lane in Ruyi District or this spacious, tranquil garden.
As long as she was with Brother Cheng, she felt incomparably safe and happy.’
Without realizing it, the two had wandered off course and found themselves in the garden’s pavilion.
With a gentle tug, Chen Cheng suddenly pulled Mu Xiaowan into his arms.
"Ah..." Mu Xiaowan cried out softly. "Brother Cheng..."
"Mmm." Feeling the soft, warm, fragrant woman in his arms, her heart fluttering like a frightened fawn’s, Chen Cheng felt himself become utterly captivated.
He lowered his head slightly and gently tasted her luscious red lips.
"Mmph..." Suddenly taken by surprise, Mu Xiaowan grew flustered. She subconsciously wanted to pull away, but found herself unwilling to...
...
After some time, Mu Xiaowan finally escaped Chen Cheng’s clutches. Her picturesque features crinkled as she pouted, "Brother Cheng, you’re getting bolder and bolder!"
But Chen Cheng simply embraced her again from behind. He leaned in, inhaling the scent from her swan-like, porcelain neck, and whispered, "Seeing such beauty and not being moved—*that* would be dishonest."
"What kind of logic is that?" Mu Xiaowan asked, bewildered.
Chen Cheng’s voice grew even softer. "An honest man follows his heart. He acts on its desires."
As a Martial Artist cultivates the Martial Dao, their physique strengthens, and their entire disposition undergoes a great change.
Though less than two years had passed, Mu Xiaowan had undergone a complete transformation. Her features were as perfect as a painting, her long legs were slender and toned, and her figure was graceful and enchanting. She grew more captivating by the day, like a goddess who had descended to the mortal realm.
Her peaks had grown ever more proud and full, a sight that made Chen Cheng reluctant to ever look away...
...
All good things must come to an end, but that only makes one anticipate the next beautiful moment!
But the move still had to be completed. Chen Cheng asked Mu Xiaowan to stay and organize their new home while he returned to the Chen Family residence in Lishui District to transport their belongings.
After leaving the Inner City District, Chen Cheng made a trip to the South City District City Guard Headquarters.
After all, Shen Qingshuang had arranged for his residence on Bailu Avenue. He felt he should at least inform her that he was moving.
However, Chen Cheng didn’t find Shen Qingshuang at the South City District City Guard Headquarters.
He learned from Su Zhiqing that Shen Qingshuang was recently in closed-door cultivation at her private residence and was not to be disturbed for any reason.
So, Chen Cheng told Su Zhiqing about his move and asked her to pass on the message to Shen Qingshuang when she had a moment.
When she learned that Chen Cheng had actually mastered the Powerful Claw Stance and been accepted by Mr. Zheng as a Closed-door Disciple, Su Zhiqing was once again stunned.
Her attitude toward Chen Cheng became noticeably more respectful.
After all, Chen Cheng was no longer just a Junior Constable from the South City District City Guard Sub-Department. He was now a Purple-clothed Guard of the Demon Suppression Department.
Combined with his status as Mr. Zheng’s True Inheritor and Closed-door Disciple, even Shen Qingshuang would likely have to treat him with courtesy in the future, to say nothing of a mere Maid like herself.
The Chens still didn’t own much in the way of furnishings; it was mostly just daily necessities for eating, clothing, and living.
There were some noticeable differences from before, however. Their former coarse, cotton clothes and bedding had been replaced with much more comfortable silk garments and brocade quilts.
Chen Cheng hired two large carts. He didn’t need any extra help; with just himself, the two young maids, and the old servant Shi Fangdong, they loaded all their belongings onto the carts and brought them to their new home at the Zheng Martial Arts Hall.
The move itself was quick, but setting up the new home took a considerable amount of time.
Chen Cheng, Mu Xiaowan, and the two young maids bustled about for quite some time. It wasn’t until the afternoon that they finally had the new residence properly arranged.
Chen Cheng and Mu Xiaowan would live in their courtyard alone. Xi’Er, Dong’Er, and the old servant Shi Fangdong were assigned to one of the smaller courtyards nearby.
Although the new residence didn’t have the open view overlooking Jishui Lake like the one on Bailu Avenue, its vast grounds and deep, secluded courtyards more than made up for it. It was a fine place indeed.
