Chapter 542: [A Godless World] (10)
When Adrian returned, he found that Ember hadn’t gone on ahead after all. He was still standing there waiting, though his expression was so dark it looked as if he wanted to stab Adrian to death on the spot.
Especially when he saw Adrian casually adjusting his belt, the plastic file folder in Ember’s hand was nearly crushed instantly.
Adrian sighed helplessly.
"Hey, what’s wrong with you now? Those are important documents."
"Don’t touch me." Ember shot Adrian a cold glance before turning and walking away.
Adrian merely shrugged and quickly followed after him.
Only the viewers had eyes sharp enough to piece everything together.
[Hahaha, I know exactly what Ember is thinking.]
[Whose fault is it for acting so suspicious in the first place?!]
[Ember would probably never guess that Anna is already in Adrian’s stomach.]
[I can’t believe pure, innocent Ember managed to imagine that much. LMAO.]
[Adrian is such an idiot. Can’t you see Ember’s sincere feelings for you?!]

[I think Adrian is just afraid Ember would be scared of him.]
[Am I the only one who thinks Adrian is actually pretty considerate? He treats Ember like a little brother.]
[All I see is him bullying Ember.]
Before long, the two of them arrived at the bus stop, although Ember’s opinion was that they should simply find their own way back to Lotus Park.
"Why make things so difficult? We don’t know the way. What’s wrong with spending a little money on the bus?" Adrian reasoned earnestly.
"I don’t have any money. Do you?" Ember asked.
Adrian fell silent for a moment before shamelessly replying,
"Then we can just ride without paying."
Ember: "..."
He felt that he had learned something new about Adrian today.
Not only did Adrian seem incapable of fear, but he also had absolutely no moral bottom line.
First he’d caused trouble right there in the alley, and now he was planning to skip the bus fare!
Even if this was a dungeon, Adrian still managed to surpass everyone’s expectations.
"But... are there even any buses running at this hour?"
Ember looked at Adrian in silence, raising the question that actually mattered.
Adrian blinked.
"There aren’t any buses at this hour?"

Ember stared at him.
"...Did you just fall from the sky or something?!"
"Why are you yelling? It’s my first time being human too."
Adrian pouted, looking deeply wounded.
The corner of Ember’s eye twitched.
"Don’t make that face at me. You may not find it disgusting, but I’m about to throw up."
"Words can be as sharp as knives..."
Adrian shook his head. Just as he was about to lecture Ember, a streak of bright orange entered his field of vision.
He perked up.
"The bus is here!"
Surprise flashed across Ember’s face. He turned around, and sure enough, a brightly colored bus emerged from the fog, slowly making its way toward them.
Aside from its unusually vibrant paint, the bus looked less like public transportation and more like something that had come to carry them straight into hell.
"There really is a bus, Ember. You’ve been human for over a decade, yet you’re still no match for someone who’s only just become one like me?" Adrian kept talking without pause.
Ember couldn’t help glaring at him.
"Could you stop talking like you’ve completely lost your mind?"
Adrian shrugged, wearing an expression that plainly said, Believe it or don’t.
By then, the bus had pulled up in front of them. The doors hissed open, and a warm amber glow spilled out from inside.
"Let’s go."
Before Ember had time to think, a hand shoved him lightly in the back, nearly sending him stumbling forward.
He immediately shot Adrian another glare.
Sometimes, he genuinely felt as though Adrian was trying to assassinate him.
[I’ve realized that glaring is literally the only thing Ember can do to Adrian.]
[I used to think Ember was kind of scary, but now...]
[I honestly thought someone like Adrian would’ve gotten his head punched off the first time they met. Turns out I was the one who misunderstood Ember?!]

[What do you mean "someone like Adrian"? He has good qualities too!]
Although the lights inside the bus were incredibly warm, they couldn’t dispel the sinister atmosphere permeating the vehicle.
The driver’s back remained ramrod straight. Even while driving through the night, he didn’t lean against the seat once. His grayish-white face stared blankly ahead.
"Two tickets to the stop nearest Lotus Park, please!" Adrian said cheerfully.
The driver’s stiff lips parted, and the voice that came out was just as cheerful as Adrian’s.
"Oh my, that neighborhood? It’s become quite famous lately. Going there this late at night isn’t exactly good luck."
Adrian waved a hand dismissively.
"But we’re residents there. How unlucky could it possibly be? Hahaha."
Ember: "..."
For the first time in his life, he’d met someone who loved raising death flags this much.
The bus had thirteen seats in total, with only six still empty.
Adrian and Ember made their way to a corner and sat down, quietly observing the other passengers.
But before Adrian had fully settled into his seat, a chill suddenly ran through his entire body.
Every hair on his body stood on end, and he nearly leaped back to his feet.
"What the hell..."
Strange. There was clearly no one sitting behind him...
"Hahaha, silly child. Sit somewhere else. I heard the person who sat there drowned yesterday. No wonder it feels cold."
Adrian and Ember looked up in surprise.

Across from them sat an elderly woman, smiling at them with the gentlest expression imaginable.
Yet the words coming out of her mouth were anything but gentle—they sounded like sweetly spoken threats, every sentence enough to make one’s skin crawl.
Adrian smiled as though nothing had happened, casually moved to another seat, and sat down beside Ember.
Which naturally meant that Ember ended up sitting next to the "person" who had drowned yesterday.
Looking at the puddle of water trickling from the seat onto the floor, then at Adrian, who looked perfectly unconcerned, Ember experienced the coldness of human nature for the first time.
Unfortunately, there were no longer any pairs of empty seats together, so they had no choice but to stay where they were.
Ember opened the file and began reading through it, while Adrian, being as outgoing as ever, struck up a conversation with the elderly woman across the aisle.
"Where are you headed, ma’am?"
The old woman smiled.
"My daughter-in-law said she recently bought a new apartment in... what was it again... ah, Lotus Park. She invited me to move there so she can take care of me in my old age. Hahaha."
Adrian’s eyes lit up.
"Then we’re going the same way! We live in Lotus Park too!"
