Chapter 357: Invite for the Trial

There had not been a trial for many years now. Not on this big a scale, at least, because rulers of their respective tribes took care of the internal matters by themselves. The Elders Council oversaw the city’s administration with the kings’ approval, but the one on trial right now was one of those same Kings. It was shameful for the entire Fox tribe because their King was accused of murdering a female. The same king who had done something like this before in the past.

"I can’t hide the truth just because I don’t like him" Lyra said as she was getting ready for today’s trial. She was expected to appear before the council because she was involved with what occurred in the Eagle tribe together with Kyrell. While she felt this was reasonable, her mates thought otherwise. They were vehemently against her going to the trial and supporting Xavier.

"I’m not going there to support him, Blake" She explained, "I’ll tell about what I went through and that will be it. I’ll not beg for Xavier’s pardon or condemn him, I’ll just tell the truth as it is and come back. I don’t care how the ruling goes but it is not right for me to withhold information from the council"

"I don’t think King Xavier will think as rationally as you regarding this matter, Lilly" Blake said, "Your presence there will only make him more delusional. He will assume that you are doing this because you have an interest in him" His mate frowned as he added, "I have always respected your decisions and accepted males that you liked into our family but this is different, Lilly. Xavier is different. Even Noah, who holds some favorable feelings regarding Xavier is also against him joining our family. And most importantly, you are against him being your mate. Involving yourself in his matters will only lead to problems in the future"

That male was not worthy of his mate. Blake could sense when someone was dangerous and Xavier was that person. Even before knowing his past life with Xavier involved, Blake had felt uncomfortable with the notion of that particular male coming into his mate’s life. He didn’t seem like someone who could endure and live in harmony.

Lyra knew what was running inside her mate’s mind. She also knew that her other mates were right beyond the door hearing everything that was happening. They had collectively sent Blake to convince her because they felt like she would be more inclined to agree to Blake’s wishes. It didn’t sit right with her that they still felt insecure about her relationship with Blake. Lyra always tried to love all of her mates equally but surely she had failed in that regard. And as for Xavier, "I’ll never become his mate"

"Xavier doesn’t think the same" Victor said as he entered the room. He couldn’t hold it in anymore, "That madman has been sending proposal letters to your everyday" Sometimes multiple times a day. It felt weird to even say that. Who the hell sends that many requests even after knowing all of it will be rejected and thrown away? Only a crazy male would do that.

Lyra was taken aback but before that, "Why didn’t any of you inform me about that till now?" She glanced at Blake, "Is this you guys once again trying to hide things from me? You know I hate it when you hide things from me"

Blake glared at Victor. This blabbermouth would be the death of him, he wanted to beat him up so bad but now he had to answer his mate, "We didn’t want to upset you by showing you those letters"

She couldn’t argure to that. She would feel upset if she received letters from Xavier every single day. Her peace of mind would be nonexistent and her entire day would become sour. And what could she do even if the letters reached her? It’s not like she could tell Xavier to stop sending them.

"What did you do with the letters?’’ She asked.

"I burned them"

Lyra nodded and left it at that, "But I still have to go to the council today"

Victoe groaned while Blake seemed vexed. She felt bad seeing them like that, "Alice tried to kill me, Nathan would have been dead if her plans succeeded, Kyrell had to go through so much because of her. The Eagle tribe in its entirety went through so much because of her and Xavier killed her stopping her actions from escalating. I don’t condone him murdering her in any instance. She should have been brought before the council and punished accordingly. Xavier took the law into his own hands and that was wrong. I hope he gets punished for it but it will be unfair for me to sit here while he gets blamed for everything. He would have never gotten involved in this matter if it were not for me"

"You are not to be blamed for that, Lilly. Xavier made his own choices"

"I know" Lyra held his hand, "I’m not blaming myself but I’m admitting that even if inevitably, Kyrell and I are involved in this. Xavier was an outsider who came to the Eagle tribe because you guys asked for it, because he wanted to help me. I’m alive now because he broke the barrier keeping you guys from reaching me"

Kyrell felt ashamed hearing that. He was the one to be blamed. It was he who abducted Lyra and refused to let her mates see her by creating a barrier around his tribe. If Nate had not stopped Alice on time, then Lyra wouldn’t have been breathing now. Honestly, Xavier did him a favor by killing that witch. He would have killed Alice himself if Xavier had not done it. Kyrell didn’t think that the fox king was guilty and was ready to talk in his favor on today’s council.

"I can’t let him take all the blame, Blake" Lyra got up from her seat, "It’s just not me. I hope you understand"

Blake observed his mate’s face. There was nothing else he could say to dissuade her. She looked resolute in her decision. He caressed her face saying, "Alright, I’ll not stop you from doing what you think is right"

"Blake..."Victor seemed unwilling but let out a sigh of resignation in the end. It was true that Xavier had helped them in a time of need. Letting him face the council all alone while they remained here safe and cushy was wrong. He looked at his mate, "Just promise me that you won’t accept him as your male. He is not right in his head" That was his limit.

Lyra smiled, "I promise"
