Chapter 48 - The Cat Is Shocked

In an old neighborhood of Golden Hill City.

On the bustling streets, Lu Ran was walking around in boredom. Manager Ying said that the necromancer was nearby and that they just needed to wait for him to show himself. However, Lu Ran had been walking around for ten minutes and had already eaten fifty yuan worth of street food, so why hadn't the necromancer appeared yet?

At this rate, he would end up being full of street food even though he originally planned to have a big dinner with his master that evening.

Croak! There are so many people. I'm going to die!

Lu Ran had put Sudden Death King on his shoulder while they were walking around. The little guy was nervously observing its surroundings, making everyone out to be a bad guy.

Five minutes later, Lu Ran ordered a roasted durian and bit into it while it was fragrant and hot. However, he suddenly wrinkled his nose before he could take another bite. He caught a familiar scent.

Because of Super Beast Mimicry, his sense of smell was constantly getting sharper. This scent wasn’t something that stood out right away, but it was suspicious that this scent also appeared on the mountain with the shallow grave.

Lu Ran remained calm in spite of his surprise, while Sudden Death King tensed its whole body and pretended to be dead. Not far away, a skinny young man in a black hoodie seemed to be looking for something.

When his eyes fell on Lu Ran, who was eating roasted durian next to a food cart, his eyes lit up as he subconsciously gulped.

How could there be such a mellow soul breath!?

I want to devour him! Devour him! I will definitely level up if I devour him!!!

A bewitching voice in his head made the young man almost unable to control himself, but since he was in a crowded city, he obviously didn't dare to act recklessly. He hesitated for a moment before slowly walking towards Lu Ran.

When he reached Lu Ran, he saw the little lizard on Lu Ran’s shoulder.

"Hey, bro!"

"What's up?" Lu Ran turned around in confusion.

"You’re a beastmaster, right? I see that your lizard isn’t simple!"

Lu Ran smiled. "You’re right, I just tested the attribute of my Red-Eyed Crocodile Skink today. It has the Lightning attribute!"

"Lightning? That’s awesome!"

The young man was delighted to hear Lu Ran mention that his familiar had just finished testing its attribute.

A weakling who hasn’t awakened his familiar’s attribute yet? What amazing luck I’ve had these past two days!

"Are you also a beastmaster?" Lu Ran asked.

The young man subconsciously took a step back before answering, "Yes. Bro, what did you eat? It stinks."

"Roasted durian. It’s very fragrant," Lu Ran replied.

"Is that even edible?"

The thin young man was speechless. He couldn't bear to see his prey eat something like that since it would make his prey taste strange when he devoured his soul.

"Haha, I like it." Lu Ran scratched his head, looking like a shy student.

"Stop eating that. If you have time, I'll take you somewhere nice. My treat."

"Really?"

Lu Ran felt that the other party's seduction technique was too stupid, but he was too lazy to play hard to get and went with the flow.

"I just came to Golden Hill to see the sights and haven't found a good place to eat yet."

"What a coincidence! I am a Golden Hill local, and I just became a beastmaster recently. Not a lot of my friends are beastmasters. I’ve been looking for someone to chat with. Come on, come on, I'll treat you!"

The thin young man smiled and became increasingly friendly.

"Okay! You’re so nice." Lu Ran walked off with the other party.

This necromancer would probably take him to a secluded area and then sneak attack him when he wasn’t paying attention. Lu Ran became twice as alert before following him.

"I know a private restaurant hidden in an old neighborhood—the kind that only locals know about. Let's go eat there."

The skinny young man looked very friendly, and so far, there was nothing unusual. Soon after, the two arrived at a building in an old neighborhood, but it didn't look like anyone lived there. Instead, it looked like an unfinished building that had been abandoned for a long time.

"This is the place you were talking about? Is there really a private restaurant here?" Lu Ran expressed his doubts.

"Yes." The necromancer wanted to lead Lu Ran inside.

Lu Ran didn’t want to keep going, so he stopped in his tracks and looked at the necromancer.

"Hey, how could this be a restaurant? Are you kidding me?"

As soon as Lu Ran finished speaking, the necromancer walking in front of him suddenly turned around and shot a throwing knife at Lu Ran with a swing of his arm. Judging from his proficiency, he was very skilled. Coupled with the extraordinary physique of a beastmaster, the force and speed of the knife were enough to kill someone instantly!

This young man's goal was very clear. He wanted to kill Lu Ran before he could escape to Limitless City. He had used this method and succeeded multiple times. So far, no one had been able to react in time!

"You talk too much! Die!"

Once the throwing knife was sent flying, the necromance revealed his true nature. In his opinion, Lu Ran was finished.

Clang!

The skinny young man turned around sluggishly when he heard the sound of metal colliding ring out. The small throwing knife he threw was knocked to the ground, and Lu Ran stood behind him, holding a long sword. It seemed that the throwing knife was knocked away by the sword.

Lu Ran pointed the sword at the necromancer, asking, "What are you doing?"

The skinny young man was caught off guard.

The necromance felt like he was conned. What was going on? He was a bit nervous and thought that he kicked a steel plate.

Something is off about this kid!

Manager Ying, who was sitting somewhere in the unfinished upstairs, saw the first clash between the two and nodded with satisfaction.

"Lu Ran has potential, but that’s partially due to being prepared in advance. Let's see if he can deal with the undead familiar."

The skinny young man discovered that Lu Ran wasn’t simple. This guy was definitely prepared ahead of time. Even some high-level beastmasters might have been caught off guard if they weren’t ready, let alone a new beastmaster.

He didn't know Lu Ran's background, so he didn't dare to let his hidden undead familiar attack rashly. Instead, he immediately activated his black card’s transfer function, hoping to slip away after ten seconds while having his familiar protect him.

It’s better to be careful!

"Who are you?"

The skinny young man began to panic. Before he slipped away, he had to ask to find out if he had been exposed.

"Just a pedestrian who punishes the wicked and supports the righteous!"

Lu Ran looked at the other party calmly as a summoning diagram appeared before him. This frightened the skinny young man even more.

That lizard isn’t his familiar!

The young man braced himself to face a powerful enemy, but once Lu Ran's familiar was summoned, an ordinary-looking husky appeared. It didn’t even look like it underwent any special evolution, which shocked the skinny young man once more.

"Fuck, it's just a husky under level ten? You were just pretending to be a badass. You nearly scared me to death. If I had known, I wouldn’t have initiated the teleportation sequence.”

As the saying went, life had its ups and downs. After watching Lu Ran front for so long and just end up summoning a husky, the young man couldn't help curse.

I was actually scared.

Seeing that he only had a few seconds left before the transfer completed, he got even more pissed.

"Boy, I’ll remember this," the necromancer threatened.

However, two seconds later, his mood violently shifted again. The transfer timer finally hit zero, but nothing happened.

The teleportation failed?

The necromancer started to panic again, not understanding what had happened. In a short period of time, his mood changed countless times, and his expression was all twisted.

Woof!

The stupid-looking husky looked at him with a smug expression as if mocking him, which nearly made the necromancer collapse.

"Remember what? A grudge?" Lu Ran mocked.

"I'll fucking kill you!!!"

The rapid changes made the skinny young man's mind a little unstable. He didn't have time to figure out what was happening, so he finally let the hidden Undead-attribute familiar launch an attack.

One of the characteristics of Undead-attribute familiars was their powerful hiding ability! They were spiritual entities that could pass through walls and become invisible. These aspects made them extremely difficult to deal with.

An Undead-attribute tabby cat appeared out of thin air next to Lu Ran like a ghost and attacked him with a swipe of its ghostly claws. Not only could it turn invisible, but it could even float!

"Why is it another cat?"

Manager Ying, sitting inside the unfinished building, was also a little upset. First, it was upset that the necromancer had killed and enslaved a cat, and second, it was upset that it had to watch the cat fight a dog and had to take the dog’s side.

"This undead cat isn’t as simple as it appears; it’s a High-Transcendent species. It should have reached level eight already, which makes it stronger than the husky. Lu Ran may not be able to deal with it, so I might have to step in. Undead-attribute creatures are still too tricky for newcomers."

As the undead cat's sneak attack was about to land, Lu Ran clutched the Wind Slashing Sword, slightly startled. In his opinion, the camouflage and speed of this undead cat were even better than the Grass-attribute demon cat.

Fortunately, Captain Doofus was no longer the Captain Doofus from back then. It protected Lu Ran and coldly glanced at the space in front of it.

It howled as violent energy surged from its body. A gust of wind engulfed it, and its figure vanished suddenly as it leaped upward.

Boom!

The undead cat’s sneak attack missed and was swatted away by Captain Doofus like a shooting star. It crashed to the ground like a rock, letting out a scream like a crying kitten.

"Fuck, how can this husky be so fast?"

The necromancer felt a bit annoyed as another sneak attack failed. However, after assessing the undead cat's condition, he sighed in relief. His opponent wasn’t strong—just fast.

He became determined to kill Lu Ran and his dog.

"Come here."

He commanded the undead cat, now back on its feet, while locking eyes with Lu Ran. In the next moment, the cat darted into the necromancer’s body!

The second trait of Undead-attribute familiars was their ability to possess their master, similar to ghostly possession. This fusion granted both enhanced power.

"You’re dead!" the necromancer proclaimed.

In an instant, black mist permeated from the skinny necromancer, and his expression became more gloomy.

Seeing this, Manager Ying realized the situation was critical. The husky Lu Ran raised was skilled in Energy Acceleration techniques, but given its species limitations, level, and attribute disadvantages, could it handle a possessed necromancer?

Just as Manager Ying prepared to intervene, its expression froze—Lu Ran remained calm, pulling out yet another strange object.

The bounty is as good as mine!

"Is this your final trump card?" Lu Ran exhaled.

With the Wind Slashing Sword in his left hand, the Cascading Wind Sword materialized in his right. To the necromancer’s and Manager Ying’s astonishment, he tossed the Cascading Wind Sword into the air!

On cue, Captain Doofus leapt up and caught it in its mouth, its gaze sharpening. The sword hummed as the wind currents around its body grew fiercer. Wielding the sword, Captain Doofus seemed transformed into an entirely different beast.

Its overwhelming aura instantly suppressed the necromancer, who now wore a grim, incredulous expression.

"What in hell?"

He was dumbfounded, feeling that the husky wielding the sword exuded the fierce aura of a wolf king. The overwhelming deterrence made him uneasy and slightly fearful!

Hurricane Sword Qi!

Woof! (I have an evil-spirit-slaying sword!)

Captain Doofus barked and swung the Cascading Sword. Using the Haste skill, it unleashed three or four rays of sword qi in an instant. The sword's momentum locked onto the enemy, as if the weight of a galaxy had descended, causing the surrounding lights to flicker.

The chaotic, rapid sword qi struck suddenly, like the fangs of a fierce predator. Before the necromancer could react, it engulfed him entirely, triggering a violent explosion on the spot.

Boom!

Smoke and dust flew everywhere!

Amid the explosion, Captain Doofus landed with a sharp look. It wished it had a pair of sunglasses to look even cooler.

"Manager Ying, the necromancer was a bit tough, but it's fine. You should check on him quickly to keep him from dying. I was nervous since it was my first time and didn’t dare to hold back. We need to interrogate him—people like this are too despicable."

Manager Ying was speechless.

What the hell? You have a swordsdog?

The cat was shocked.

You and your dog aren’t like newbies at all!
