Chapter 223: Chapter 223: Friend or Foe
Meanwhile, somewhere in the Endless Sea, Han Fengyun and Han Xiaoyun both let out three huge sneezes at the same time.
Caught off guard, Han Xiaoyun’s skeleton fell apart again.
Mo Yan put down the vegetables she was holding and skillfully began to reassemble him.
"Useless thing," Han Fengyun said disdainfully. "You fell apart again."
Han Xiaoyun ignored him, gently patting Mo Yan’s head. "Yan’er, I can do it myself."
Mo Yan handed him his ribs and sighed. "I wonder if we’ll ever be able to leave this place."
"We definitely will." While Han Xiaoyun was still reassembling himself, Han Fengyun pulled Mo Yan into a comforting embrace. "Yan’er, I’ll go out to scout again in a few days. I’m sure I’ll find a way out."
Mo Yan nodded. Just as she was about to go back to preparing the vegetables, her neighbor, Aunt Zhang, knocked on the door. "Mo Yan, dear! I’ve brought you some eggs!"
She quickly had Han Fengyun take the still-disassembled Han Xiaoyun into a back room. Only after closing the door to that room did she go to open the main door. She exchanged a few words with Aunt Zhang, and then the neighbor left.
Closing the door, Mo Yan sighed.
They had originally planned to cross the Endless Sea to find a way to restore Han Xiaoyun. The first half of the journey went smoothly, but when their boat reached the middle of the Endless Sea, a giant wave swept them into the water.
When they next opened their eyes, they had arrived in this strange place.
This place was very different from the Beastman Continent. The people here weren’t distinguished as ’males’ and ’females,’ but rather as ’men’ and ’women.’
Although they were also Beastmen, their way of life was to work from sunrise to sunset, with every household cultivating its own land.
Furthermore, most people here practiced a one-female-one-male... no, a one-man-one-woman system. A female having multiple male partners, or a male having multiple female partners, had never happened here.
There was no Beast Emperor or various officials here. There was a Beast God Hall, and Beast God Envoys frequently came out to help the common people. Moreover, the people were exceptionally friendly, and neighbors never got into heated arguments.
The few villains who tried to harm innocent people would be taken away by the Beast God Envoys to be "reformed."
When Mo Yan and her two companions landed here, the locals helped them enthusiastically. Upon learning that they had just fallen into this place, the people weren’t the least bit surprised.
Mo Yan later found out that people would appear here every so often. Those newcomers always tried to find a way back, but before long, they would be won over by the simple, idyllic lifestyle and choose to stay.
Mo Yan had to admit this place was wonderful, but she still had to return. After living here for so many days, however, she was worried she would be captivated by this place and decide to stay for good.
...
Yu An didn’t plan to live in the exiled land for long, and since Bai Ruo’s family also had to return to the Imperial City, they could all go back together.
After staying with the Giant Stone Tribe for a few days, they set off on their return journey, bidding a reluctant farewell to the tribe members.
Zhu Qingqing had also resigned from her post as Inspection Envoy to go back with them. ’Everyone else is going to the Imperial City, so why should I stay here?’
By the time all the arrangements were made, it was already dark. Yu An told everyone to get a good night’s rest, as they would be setting off first thing in the morning.
Just like the past few nights, Yu An shared a room with Bai Rong and Zhu Qingqing. They decided not to chat tonight and lay down to rest early.
Yu An had just closed her eyes when she suddenly caught a faint, sweet scent. Immediately after, her eyelids grew heavier and heavier until she lost consciousness.
The same thing happened to Bai Rong, Zhu Qingqing, and everyone else in the Su Mansion. Once all was silent, a vine emerged from the ground.
The vine changed Yu An’s clothes, then wrapped her up into a "cocoon" and carried her away. Before leaving, it paused for a few seconds.
Underground, countless roots spread out. Vines slowly appeared in several other rooms, wrapping up certain people and carrying them away.
Yu An’s sleep was far from peaceful. She kept trying to wake up, but all her efforts were in vain.
It wasn’t until a bright light appeared before her that she tried again. This time, she managed to struggle her eyes open.
The first thing she saw was a magnificent, resplendent palace. Yu An was stunned for a second, then her gaze fell upon the figure sitting high on a glittering golden throne... the Beast God?
"Beast God? Where is this place?"
Yu An stood up, her hand hidden in her sleeve clenching into a fist. She put on a bewildered expression. "Did you bring me here? Is there something you need?"
The Beast God stared at her for a long moment before breaking into a smile. "I’ve brought you to a wonderful place, little girl. What do you think of it?"
Yu An glanced around. "Is it all made of gold?"
"Yes," the Beast God nodded. "It’s all made of gold."
"Then you must be very wealthy," Yu An marveled. "Beast God, is this where you live? It’s so luxurious!"
The Beast God smiled. "From the sound of it, you like this place?"
"It is quite nice," Yu An agreed. "But why did you bring me here?"
"I want you to live here from now on. What do you say?"
Yu An paused. "By myself, or with my family?"
"By yourself."
"Then I can’t," Yu An politely declined. "I’d rather be with my family."
"Please, I must ask you to send me back. It looks like it’s dawn already. My family will be worried when they can’t find me."
"No rush, no rush," the Beast God said slowly. "Think it over. You really don’t want to live here?"
"I’m sure," Yu An said firmly. "I won’t stay."
She watched the Beast God’s expression, channeling her superpower into her hands.
’Something is very wrong,’ Yu An thought. ’He brought me to this place for no reason, and everything he says is meant to convince me to stay. The more I think about it, the more I feel that something is off.’
’And who changed my clothes?’
The Beast God suddenly rose to his feet. "And what if I insist that you stay? Little girl, if you’re obedient and stay of your own free will, you can save yourself a lot of trouble. Otherwise..."
"Otherwise what?"
Seeing that he had dropped the act, Yu An stopped playing dumb. She said in a cold voice, "Beast God, what are you trying to do!"
"What am I trying to do?"
The Beast God chuckled. "I simply appreciate talent. You, little girl, possess a superpower that is unique in this world. I just want you to stay in the Beast God Hall and work for me."
He tempted her, "Didn’t you call yourself a Beast God Envoy before? Stay here, and you’ll be the real Beast God Envoy, respected and adored wherever you go."
"What’s more, if you agree to stay in the Beast God Hall, the tens of thousands of messengers here will be at your command. Your position will be second only to me and above all others. Isn’t that a good deal?"
Yu An rolled her eyes. "So at the end of the day, it just means working for you, right? My status won’t be low when I go back, either. Besides, who cares about being some Beast God Envoy?"
"Send me back right now, or else..."
"Are you going to fight me?"
The Beast God smiled. "With your superpower?"
Yu An said coldly, "My superpower has already reached Level 12. You may be the Beast God, but you’ll be in for a tough fight if we come to blows!"
The Beast God suddenly burst out laughing. "You’re far too naive, little girl. Do you remember what I told you the first time we met?"
Seeing Yu An’s blank expression, the Beast God continued, "I told you that your superpower and your space were my gifts, but that I didn’t understand them at all."
"But there is one other thing that did come from my hand."
Behind the Beast God, vines began to grow wildly. His smile deepened. "Can you guess which one?"
