Chapter 216: Chapter 216: Superpower Level 12
"An’an," Mo Yan lowered his eyes. "I’m no help at all."
As a Beast Husband, he was supposed to shelter his Female Master and their cubs from the storm, but now, Yu An was the one protecting them while he could do nothing.
"Is that what this is about?" Yu An smiled. "Mo Yan, why would you think that?"
She joked, "The more capable you are, the more work you do. Since I’m the only one with this ability, it’s only natural I do a bit more."
Mo Yan wrapped his arms around her waist, his voice muffled. "An’an, I’m worried about you."
Yu An hadn’t clearly explained how she planned to stop Lord Mo from destroying the world, but Mo Yan knew it definitely wouldn’t be easy.
Yu An hesitated for a moment but decided not to reveal her "secret" about the Beast God. ’Oh well,’ she thought, ’Mo Yan will find out eventually.’
Just as she was about to say something to distract Mo Yan, she suddenly smelled something burning.
"My food!"
Yu An leaped to her feet. The dish in the pot was already burnt. The two of them scrambled to salvage it, and the incident conveniently let the previous topic drop.
When she looked at Mo Yan again, the worry on his face had eased somewhat. Yu An fed him a washed strawberry.
"Have something sweet. No more frowning, or I’ll start to think you don’t have faith in me."
Yu An deliberately put on a stern face. "Mo Yan, tell me, who’s the most amazing person in the world?"
Mo Yan gave a resigned smile and played along. "Of course it’s you, An’an."
"See? You know it." Satisfied, Yu An stood on her tiptoes and gave him a kiss. "Remember that. I’m the greatest."
After delivering Lord Mo’s meal to his room, Yu An and Mo Yan took their own family’s food to the courtyard next door.
After eating with Yu An all this time, this was the first time he was alone. Lord Mo paused for a moment, then silently picked up his chopsticks.
’Oh well. I’ve always been alone,’ he thought. ’I’m... used to it.’
For the next five or six days, Lord Mo remained alone. The occasional clamor from next door drifted over, and though he closed his eyes, he found it impossible to concentrate on cultivating his spiritual power.
Fortunately, Ao Yin arrived at that moment to report, "My Lord, the Array is complete!"
Ao Yin’s gaze was fervent, and the hand hidden in his sleeve trembled slightly with excitement.
’Finally, the day has finally come!’
’Once my lord fully becomes the Beast God, he can help me obtain Yu Huang and crush the Dragon Clan and Ao Jin underfoot!’
Lord Mo opened his eyes. "Where is the gold and silver I had you prepare?"
Ao Yin quickly replied, "They have been placed in the warehouse, my lord. May I ask what they are for?"
The Underground Mine’s purpose was to excavate gold and silver. Lord Mo required an immense quantity, and after decades of mining, they had finally gathered the amount he needed.
"It’s not for my use," Lord Mo said, getting to his feet. "Bring Yu An here. The gold and silver are for her to absorb."
Ao Yin was baffled, but at such a critical juncture, he had to obey Lord Mo. Otherwise, decades—no, centuries—of effort would be all for naught!
In truth, the Invincible Alliance was not the first faction Lord Mo had supported. Before the Invincible Alliance, he had backed many people in establishing different forces to find a suitable physical vessel and construct the Array.
But all those factions had failed; only the Invincible Alliance had successfully accomplished this monumental feat.
Ao Yin had not only found the most suitable vessel for Lord Mo but had also succeeded in building the immensely costly Array.
Watching Ao Yin go to find Yu An, Lord Mo glanced out the window at the sky.
The sky was clear and boundless. ’Such a beautiful day,’ he thought. ’A pity I won’t be able to see it anymore.’
When Ao Yin arrived and explained his purpose, Yu An didn’t let Mo Yan or the others follow; the Zaizai were even forced to remain in the courtyard.
When she arrived at Lord Mo’s room, he glanced at her and said flatly, "Let’s go."
Ao Yin led the way while Yu An and Lord Mo followed behind.
She discreetly glanced at Lord Mo several times, trying to read his expression, but unfortunately, there was nothing to see.
"Stop staring," Lord Mo said flatly. "Just focus on your cultivation later. That gold and silver is enough to raise you to Level 12."
"But why?" Yu An finally couldn’t help but ask. "You can’t use my superpower, so why help me raise it to the highest level?"
Lord Mo paused, then simply tossed out, "Because I feel like it."
Yu An was speechless.
’Fine, fine, whatever. You’re the one with all the money, so you call the shots. In any case, it’s no loss to me.’
When they arrived at the so-called "warehouse," Yu An realized it wasn’t a warehouse at all—it was a literal mountain of gold and silver!
And she meant that in the most literal sense. The gold and silver were piled so high that as she stood at the foot of the mountain and craned her neck to look up, it completely blocked out the sun.
"Whoa!"
She let out a gasp of pure, unsophisticated awe.
Lord Mo waved a hand, motioning for Ao Yin to leave. Ao Yin hesitated for a moment before obeying and departing.
He thought he had just seen a hint of indulgence toward Yu An in Lord Mo’s eyes. ’Did I see that wrong?’
’Yes, I must have been mistaken.’
"Okay, I’ll start cultivating now," Yu An said, then added in frustration, "Shoot, I forgot to bring someone to stand guard for me."
"I’ll do it."
Lord Mo casually found a rock and sat down. "Go on, cultivate."
When Yu An didn’t move, he frowned. "Don’t you trust me?"
"No, no!" Yu An trotted over. "Just let me return to my body for a second. I want to get some snacks for you. The cultivation will take a long time, and you can eat them to pass the time."
Lord Mo was about to say it wasn’t necessary, but he caught her pleading look and changed his mind. "Mm."
Yu An’s face immediately lit up. She took out a huge pile of snacks, and with no table in sight, she spread a piece of cloth on the ground.
As she placed the snacks on the cloth, a streak of green slipped from her fingertip and instantly vanished into the earth.
"My safety is in your hands," Yu An said earnestly. "You have to protect me well."
Lord Mo waved a hand dismissively. "I know."
Only then did Yu An go to cultivate. A flood of rich energy poured into her body, and her Origin Core began to spin. In her Dantian, Lu Lu also unfurled its vines.
It had grown its twelve leaves long ago and couldn’t sprout any more. So instead, its color gradually deepened to a vibrant, exceptionally pleasing emerald green.
Where Yu An sat cultivating, the Lu Lu she had brought out from her space was hidden in the earth beneath her, ready to protect her the instant danger appeared.
Lord Mo didn’t notice it—or perhaps, he simply wasn’t paying attention in her direction. He expressionlessly chewed and chewed and chewed, so much that his jaw began to ache.
’This beef jerky is so tough,’ he thought. ’I’m not eating this again.’
From day to night, and from night back to day, Yu An cultivated for three full days before she finally absorbed the entire mountain of gold and silver.
Her superpower reached Level 12. Yu An opened her eyes, eager to test the might of her new power, but she couldn’t use it at the moment.
Yu An glanced at Lord Mo. ’I have to return to my own body to be able to use my superpower,’ she remembered.
She had cultivated for three days and nights straight, yet she didn’t feel tired in the slightest. In fact, she felt refreshed and invigorated. "I’m done cultivating," she said. "Let’s go back."
Lord Mo nodded. After taking just two steps, he abruptly asked Yu An a question. "Tell me, which is better: to live an entire lifetime in a daze, or to live a single day with perfect clarity?"
