Chapter 190: Chapter 172: A Different Skill
After dinner, Li Qian wasted no time, heading straight back to the small white building where he was staying to continue browsing through the Breeder materials on his VR glasses.
He was well aware that his Golden Finger was merely an aid and he shouldn’t rely on it too heavily. It was an incomprehensible thing, and it would be perfectly normal if it suddenly disappeared one day.
If that day ever came, Li Qian had to be able to stand on his own two feet. Even without his Golden Finger, he needed to become a decent Breeder, not fall from grace and become a fraud just filling a quota.
Most importantly, when it came to being a Breeder, you either had the ability or you didn’t. There was no faking it.
Time slowly passed. Around ten o’clock at night, just as Li Qian took off his VR glasses to get ready for bed, a figure suddenly darted toward his window.
"CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK..." The figure landed on the windowsill, Pecking at the glass before letting out a familiar Crying sound.
The instant the Crying sound began, Li Qian recognized it. The figure that had suddenly appeared wasn’t just any other Pet Beast—it was Chicken Hair, the Golden Crowned Red Feather Chicken he had just trained that day, the one that had evolved.
"Chicken Hair, it’s so late. What brings you here?" A curious expression appeared on Li Qian’s face when he saw it was Chicken Hair.
’The chicken had obviously come looking for him, but why?’
Unable to figure it out, Li Qian decided not to dwell on it. He walked straight over, opened the window, and looked at Chicken Hair on the sill.
"CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK..." Chicken Hair let out another urgent Crying sound. It twisted its head, then with a sudden leap, flew down from the third-floor window.
Seeing this, Li Qian instantly understood. Without hesitation, he headed downstairs from the third floor and followed.
"Are you taking me somewhere?" Li Qian asked immediately. He saw Chicken Hair watch him come downstairs before heading straight off in a particular direction. Its intention to lead was unmistakable.
Chicken Hair looked back and clucked a few more times in response. Figuring he understood, Li Qian said no more and followed closely behind.
Li Qian was very familiar with the direction Chicken Hair was heading—it was the small grove where the Red Feather Chickens roosted.
Before long, the man and chicken arrived at the grove. Li Qian remained at the edge, not entering directly, and instead began to observe carefully.
Chicken Hair wasted no time, heading straight in. It flapped its wings, leaped into the air, and in a flash, landed on the branch of a large tree.
Li Qian’s eyes followed its flight path, and he soon spotted its form.
’Huh, is that a female Red Feather Chicken?’ Right on the branch where Chicken Hair landed, Li Qian saw another Red Feather Chicken. Having familiarized himself with this Pet Beast over the past two days, he knew the species very well. He recognized it instantly: the one standing next to Chicken Hair was a female.
"So that’s your girlfriend, you little rascal. Don’t tell me you dragged me out here this late at night just to watch you two be lovey-dovey. If that’s the case, I might just get mad and stew you both into a pot of chicken soup," Li Qian muttered when he saw Chicken Hair land beside the female, the two of them looking just like a pair of lovebirds.
"CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK..." After landing beside the female, Chicken Hair started its Crying again. It looked as if it had something important to tell Li Qian.
Li Qian frowned. Chicken Hair clearly had something on its mind, but he had no idea what its constant "CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK"ing was supposed to mean.
Just as Li Qian was wondering if he should summon Qizai to act as a translator, something suddenly changed with the female Red Feather Chicken on the branch.
To be precise, the female Red Feather Chicken itself was changing. The hen, which had been standing perfectly still, was suddenly enveloped in a faint, silvery-grey glow.
The silvery-grey light wasn’t very bright, so Li Qian didn’t notice it at first. It was only after staring intently that he saw it.
’Is that the Light Energy Storage Skill?’ The familiar scene made Li Qian instinctively think of the Light Energy Storage Skill that Chicken Hair had mastered.
’Is it moonlight?’ He glanced at the moon, partially hidden by clouds, and quickly formed a hypothesis.
The Skill was so similar, it was practically identical, differing only in color. It was impossible for Li Qian not to make the connection.
The male Red Feather Chicken used the Light Energy Storage Skill to store sunlight, while the female used it to store moonlight.
’No wonder Gao Yaxin said she’d never seen a female Red Feather Chicken learn this Skill. It turns out they just don’t use it during the day.’
"Male and female Red Feather Chickens both learn the Light Energy Storage Skill, but they absorb completely different types of Energy. It seems my earlier theory was correct: Red Feather Chickens have two completely different high-level Evolutionary Forms, one for males and one for females." After muttering his theory aloud, Li Qian felt a growing sense of certainty.
Silently watching Chicken Hair’s girlfriend use the Light Energy Storage Skill to absorb moonlight, Li Qian stood motionless, lost in thought.
In that moment, he thought about many things and came to understand many things as well.
After some time, Li Qian snapped out of his thoughts. At that moment, Chicken Hair’s girlfriend had also stopped using her Skill.
She and Chicken Hair leaped down from the branch together and landed in front of Li Qian. The pair of them began Crying, "CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK."
Li Qian mostly understood what Chicken Hair meant. He smiled and pointed to the female Red Feather Chicken who was Crying alongside it. "You want me to help her evolve, too?"
"CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK..." Hearing this, Chicken Hair’s Crying became even more enthusiastic. Clearly, Li Qian had read its mind.
Now he finally understood why Chicken Hair had sought him out in the middle of the night. ’So that’s what this was all about.’
This Red Feather Chicken really was a smart one. Getting it from Gao Yaxin had been worth it.
The two training sessions had been grueling, but the chicken knew in its heart that as long as it could become stronger, the suffering was nothing.
It had clearly understood that meeting Li Qian wasn’t a misfortune. On the contrary, it was a stroke of destiny.
It wanted to share this destiny with its girlfriend so she could grow alongside it. And Li Qian could tell the little hen wasn’t lacking in intelligence either; otherwise, she wouldn’t have worked with Chicken Hair to convey such a complex message.
"I don’t have any Fire Cloud Grass on me right now. If she wants to evolve, she’ll have to come with me tomorrow." Li Qian smiled as he looked at Chicken Hair and its girlfriend, speaking in a calm, unhurried tone.
Li Qian was quite confident he could get another Red Feather Chicken from Gao Yaxin. Of course, if that didn’t work, he didn’t mind paying a small price for it.
After all, the value of a Red Feather Chicken wasn’t that high. Even if he had to buy one, it wouldn’t cost much.
