Chapter 083: The Eerie Gorge

Some of them braked so abruptly they even performed drifting maneuvers around the curves.

Ming Xi had been keeping a close watch on these giant bees and naturally noticed their abnormal behavior.

Anything that could make these vicious giant bees so wary could only mean this gorge was problematic.

Extremely problematic!

"Golden Ingot, stop advancing for now."

Ming Xi wasn't the reckless type - the unknown was often the most terrifying and deadly.

Frowning, she began carefully observing the gorge.

The steep cliffs on both sides formed jagged, natural peaks that converged into a spire-like structure enclosing the gorge.

Apart from the entrance they'd come through, there were no other visible exits.

The stone path through the gorge center was an incline, though not too steep, about eight to nine meters wide, winding upward while gradually widening.

Both sides of the path were bursting with colorful flowers.

A dazzling, breathtaking display even more beautiful than what they'd seen in the flower fields earlier.

Seeing the flowers, Little Silver Flower flapped its wings eagerly wanting to gather them, but Ming Xi quickly tightened her hold.

"Don't. It might be dangerous."

The giant bees' reaction was far too abnormal.

She was certain - either this gorge itself was dangerous, or there was something peculiar about its flora and rock formations.

Little Silver Flower obediently stopped struggling.

Ming Xi looked back at the swarm of giant bees outside the gorge.

They hadn't left but were gathering in increasing numbers outside the entrance - Ming Xi estimated nearly the entire colony had arrived.

Countless emerald-green compound eyes locked onto them.

With a hint of... schadenfreude?

This feeling was even more chilling than being stalked by a deranged serial killer.

Ming Xi grew increasingly certain the gorge was dangerous.

Perhaps those bees had deliberately herded them here, leaving them with no escape.

Danger ahead, certain doom behind!

What about breaking through from above?

While the opening appeared narrow from this angle, that was just a perspective illusion caused by height - Golden Ingot could definitely fly out.

But that probably wouldn't work either - those giant bees could fly too and would surely give chase.

For all she knew, some might already be waiting in ambush above.

"Golden Ingot, I'm going down to investigate."

No matter what, solutions always outnumbered difficulties.

When Golden Ingot descended to a certain height, Ming Xi leaped down with Little Silver Flower in her arms.

She landed squarely in the center of the stone path, keeping well away from the flowers.

But the moment her feet touched ground, an icy sensation shot straight through her skull.

A soul-piercing cold that seemed intent on freezing her solid.

She could feel her feet already frozen, the chill rapidly creeping up her legs.

Realizing something was wrong, she immediately tossed Little Silver Flower into the air to let it fly independently.

This cold clearly emanated from the ground - as long as Little Silver Flower didn't touch her, it wouldn't be affected.

"Golden Ingot."

Ming Xi called out.

Seeing her face turn deathly pale in an instant, Golden Ingot immediately recognized the danger and swiftly flew to her side.

Ming Xi promptly swung herself back onto its back.

The moment her feet left the ground, the invasive cold vanished, but her legs were already nearly numb.

So the danger wasn't the flowers - it was this land!

The earth's energy here!

She hadn't been cautious enough and almost became an ice sculpture.

"Chirp-chirp?" Are you okay?

Golden Ingot turned its head, watching her with deep concern. Having physical contact with its beastmaster, it understood exactly what she'd just experienced.

"Tweet-tweet."

Little Silver Flower also flew over, tears already welling up in its eyes.

Ming Xi gave them a reassuring smile.

"I'm fine, just temporarily can't feel my legs."

Thankfully Golden Ingot reacted quickly, otherwise she'd be cosplaying as an ice sculpture fairy right now.

Then, one after another, pink halos began descending upon her.

Like someone had applied a soft glow and rosy filter to her.

The stiffness and pain in her legs rapidly disappeared.

Even the burns on her back from being chased by the Flareweb Monarch earlier were healing.

Could this be... Sacred Healing?

Ming Xi looked at Little Silver Flower hovering before her - its pink pupils were spinning unnaturally fast.

Those pink halos were emanating from its eyes.

Sacred Healing was this... this girly?

Healing skills were standard for every angelic-type supernatural creature - an innate racial ability.

But healing skills varied greatly - some could mend simple flesh wounds while others could resurrect those with one foot in the grave.

Among these, Sacred Healing was the highest grade and rarest.

Before today, Ming Xi had only heard of it - never actually seen any supernatural creature use this skill.

Not online, let alone in reality.

So she truly hadn't expected Sacred Healing to look like this.

Drowning in pink aesthetics.

Someone might mistake it for a love confession.

But... it's fine.

A skill's prestige isn't about special effects but effectiveness.

Right?

"Thank you, Little Silver Flower. I'm all better now."

Fully recovered, Ming Xi hugged the returning silver flower and pinched its rosy little cheeks.

Seeing her beastmaster's genuine smile, Golden Ingot quietly sighed in relief.

As Ming Xi's first contracted beast, it was most attuned to her emotional shifts and had clearly sensed her pain earlier.

This new little sister might be delicate, but not entirely useless.

Ming Xi also considered contracting Little Silver Flower her good fortune.

With a healing-skill beast by her side, her grandma wouldn't have to worry about her losing limbs anymore.

Thinking of her grandma reminded her - today was supposedly when the Changheng Secret Land closed.

If she couldn't be reached for long, her grandma would surely worry herself sick.

Who knew when this secret realm would actually close?

Her grandma had only recently recovered - Ming Xi didn't want to cause her illness again.

The more she thought, the more distressed she became, her briefly lifted mood sinking again.

"Tweet-tweet?"

Little Silver Flower noticed her mood change and, thinking its healing was incomplete, prepared to activate its skill again.

Ming Xi quickly stopped it.

"No need, I'm truly healed. Sacred Healing worked perfectly - I just recalled something unpleasant."

Not wanting her mood to affect them, she quickly rallied.

At this point, worrying here wouldn't help - all she could do now was survive.

Only by living could she return to her grandma.

"Golden Ingot, Little Silver Flower, be extremely careful not to touch anything here - no wildflowers, no grass, not even the cliff walls."

The newly determined Ming Xi warned both little ones.

This gorge was truly bizarre beyond measure.
