Chapter 172: Chapter 175: I’m Going to Sue You
"..." Miranda Morgan’s expression froze on her face.
She looked at the photo Sonia Quincy had produced, a blatant layer of guilt surfacing in her eyes.
Sonia Quincy stood before her, silently waiting for her to start making excuses.
"Ahem..." She cleared her throat, picked up her glass of red wine, and took a small sip. Feigning nonchalance, she asked, "Sonia Quincy, what’s the meaning of this? Does this photo really prove anything?"
Sonia Quincy watched her coolly and said directly, "This photo was taken half a month ago. Back then, you hadn’t come to me demanding I pay you back for those ’gigolos’."
"...So?" Miranda Morgan looked up, staring at her with a smirk.
Sonia continued, "The photo was taken on November first, but you brought people to cause trouble for me on November third. That’s a gap of exactly two days. Don’t you think that’s a bit too coincidental?"
"I don’t," Miranda Morgan said, jutting her chin out. Her refusal to admit anything made her look incredibly stubborn.
Sonia Quincy’s lips curved into a sneer, her eyes filled with scorn. "If you don’t think it’s a coincidence, then fine. I didn’t come here today to argue with you about that, anyway."
"Did you know that Cecilia Quincy is finished?
"...What do you mean?" Miranda Morgan didn’t understand what she was saying.
Sonia didn’t explain. Instead, she pulled her phone out of her bag and played a recording she had prepared.
"Sonia Quincy, the one who isn’t loved is the other woman. I only got involved in your relationship because I wanted to fight for the love that belongs to me..."
Cecilia Quincy’s triumphant voice came from the phone’s speaker. Miranda Morgan’s eyes instantly widened, her face a mask of horror.
But Cecilia’s voice continued.
"So you admit it. You really did get in the middle of my relationship with Ethan Lockwood?"
"When did I ever deny it...?"
"You..." Miranda Morgan shot up from the sofa, looking at Sonia Quincy with an expression that could only be described as terror.
"Shhh—" Sonia Quincy raised a finger to her lips, signaling for Miranda Morgan to be quiet. "Keep listening."
"...Cecilia Quincy, why did you frame me? Why did you go to such great lengths to drive me out of the Quincy Family?"
"Because you’re an imposter! You never should have been in the Quincy Family in the first place. Isn’t it perfectly normal for me to tell you to get lost?"
"So, you admit you did all of this?"
"If you think so, then I guess so..."
"Cecilia Quincy, you’re too vicious! You were behind all those terrible things just to frame me!"
"Who told you to deserve it...?"
The recording went on for much longer, but Sonia Quincy only played that portion.
She paused the recording and put the phone back in her bag. When she looked up at Miranda Morgan again, her eyes were filled with nothing but triumph.
"Miranda Morgan, if this recording were to be exposed, don’t you think Cecilia Quincy’s reputation would be utterly ruined?"
"..." Miranda Morgan’s face was ashen. She was completely unable to answer the question.
Teetering on her eight-centimeter stilettos, she stumbled forward a few steps and demanded in a trembling voice, "Sonia Quincy, where did you get these recordings?"
Sonia Quincy didn’t answer, only saying meaningfully, "Miranda Morgan, if this recording gets out, do you think Cecilia Quincy will have any energy left to protect you?"
"...Wh-what are you trying to do?" Miranda Morgan asked nervously.
Sonia Quincy stated succinctly, "I’m suing you."
"...What?!"
Sonia Quincy’s words struck the unprepared Miranda Morgan like a bolt of lightning, leaving her reeling.
Miranda Morgan’s eyes widened. Her face turned white, then ashen, then flushed bright red. The rapid shift in color was quite a spectacle.
"Y-You’re suing me?!" she repeated Sonia Quincy’s words in disbelief. She was so shocked that her mouth hung open in an exaggerated "O."
Sonia Quincy smiled brightly. "That’s right, I’m suing you. Want to see the case filing I’ve prepared for you?"
Miranda Morgan was still reeling from the shock and couldn’t process the question, having no idea how to respond.
But Sonia Quincy hadn’t intended for her to answer anyway.
She took out her phone again, opened an application, and pulled up the online case filing she had submitted, showing it to Miranda Morgan.
Miranda Morgan’s mind was numb. She didn’t know what Sonia Quincy was showing her. She could only see the bold words in the center of the phone screen—
Defendant: Miranda Morgan.
"Y-You really are suing me?!" Miranda Morgan finally believed it.
"Yep," Sonia Quincy replied with a grin.
Miranda Morgan’s face was as pale as a sheet, and she looked completely stunned. "How... how could this happen? Cecilia said..."
"What did Cecilia say?" Sonia Quincy cut her off, helpfully finishing her sentence. "Did Cecilia say that I have so much dirt on me that no one can tell what’s true and what’s false, so there’s no way I’d ever sue you? Or did she say I’m too stupid to even think of suing you as an option?"
"..." Miranda Morgan took two steps back, her crimson lips trembling almost imperceptibly.
Sonia Quincy eyed her playfully, her tone more cheerful than ever. "Miranda Morgan, I’ve only ever had drinks and watched performances here. I haven’t done anything else. Your claims that I owe you money and hired your gigolos are pure slander! I’ll sue you, and it’s a slam-dunk case!"
"Under our country’s laws, malicious slander can land you in prison. Plus, you uploaded a secretly recorded video to the internet, which has caused significant damage to my reputation and my life. All I need is a decent lawyer, and you’ll be guaranteed to do time."
"Miranda Morgan, you’re finished, too."
"I..." Miranda Morgan was visibly panicking. "I... This has nothing to do with me! I never meant to actually slander you!"
Sonia Quincy shrugged helplessly. "But you were the one who came looking for trouble. You were the one who spread the video online. And you were the one who personally said I hired gigolos and didn’t pay. The law doesn’t care about your excuses."
"I... I didn’t..." Miranda Morgan’s defense was feeble and weak.
Sonia Quincy didn’t bother to argue back. She was very satisfied with Miranda Morgan’s reaction.
She leisurely crossed her arms, quietly watching Miranda Morgan panic.
Only when Miranda Morgan was beside herself with panic, her eyes wild and lost, did Sonia suddenly soften her tone. "Miranda Morgan, I’m giving you two options now."
"Wh-what options?" Miranda Morgan asked anxiously.
Sonia Quincy said, "One, you play the part of the defendant. Or two, you tell me the details of your collaboration with Cecilia Quincy. As long as you don’t lie to me, I’ll drop the lawsuit immediately."
"..." Miranda Morgan stared at her warily, clearly not convinced.
Sonia Quincy explained with a helpless sigh, "The person I want revenge on is Cecilia Quincy, not you. As long as I get what I want, I won’t sue you. I can even drop the suit right here in front of you."
"..." Miranda Morgan didn’t speak, but her expression was already a mix of conflict and indecision.
Sonia Quincy looked her in the eye and said softly, "Cecilia Quincy can barely save herself right now. If you really end up getting sued, she definitely won’t lift a finger to help you. I suggest you think it over carefully."
