Chapter 146: Chapter 149: Evidence Obtained, but Through Trickery and Deception
"..." Sonia Quincy pressed her lips together, neither confirming nor denying it.
But to Ethan Lockwood, that was the most definitive answer he could get.
"Heh..." He scoffed mockingly. "I knew he’d do something like this. Did he cheat, or was he hitting on someone?"
Sonia Quincy shook her head gently. "Neither. The woman didn’t really respond to him. It was more like..."
"Like harassment?" Ethan Lockwood finally said the word himself.
"..." Sonia Quincy answered with silence once again.
Ethan Lockwood instantly took that as confirmation of the "harassment."
"So he really never changes..." A cold smirk tugged at his lips, his eyes filled with contempt for Felix Preston.
"Never changes?" Sonia Quincy frowned, feigning surprise at the phrase. "Ethan Lockwood, why would you say that?"
Ethan Lockwood had already fallen right into Sonia Quincy’s trap. Hearing her question, he blurted out the story without a second thought.
"Because Felix Preston has a record. Before he married you, he harassed Cecilia."
"...Felix Preston harassed Cecilia Quincy?" Sonia Quincy looked up, staring at Ethan Lockwood with an expression of disbelief. "What makes you say that? Do you have proof?"
Ethan Lockwood arched an eyebrow confidently. "Of course I have proof. Cecilia sent it to me herself."
"What is it?" Sonia Quincy’s face darkened, appearing very displeased with Ethan Lockwood’s accusation.
A desire to conquer welled up in Ethan Lockwood. He immediately pulled out his phone, brought up the few WeChat screenshots Cecilia had sent him, and shoved the screen in Sonia Quincy’s face.
"See for yourself. Don’t want you saying I’m framing Felix Preston."
Sonia Quincy’s eyes widened as she carefully read every word on the chat screenshots.
Felix Preston: Cecilia, are you free tonight? Can you come to the student council office and help me with something?
Cecilia Quincy: I have something tonight, so I probably can’t make it. Sorry, Senior.
Felix Preston: You really can’t come? But I bought you that taro milk tea you love.
Cecilia Quincy: You can have the milk tea, Senior. I really can’t make it.
Felix Preston: Cecilia, are you still upset about last night? I really didn’t mean to grab you. I just lost my footing and stumbled, and I happened to fall on you.
That was the first screenshot. After reading it, Sonia Quincy automatically swiped to the next one.
Felix Preston: Cecilia, you left your project report here. Come by and get it in a bit.
Cecilia Quincy: Um... I probably don’t have time. Could you just leave it at my desk, Senior? I’ll get it tomorrow. Thanks, Senior.
Felix Preston: I’ve been trying to see you for a week straight, and you always say you’re busy. Cecilia, you’re not busy, you’re deliberately avoiding me, aren’t you?
Cecilia Quincy: I’m not. Please don’t misunderstand, Senior.
Felix Preston: I’m not misunderstanding. I know my confession was too sudden and you can’t quite accept it yet. But it’s okay. Just give me some more time, alright?
Cecilia Quincy: But Senior, I already have a boyfriend. Can you please not be like this?
Felix Preston: So what if you have a boyfriend? What does that have to do with me pursuing you? Cecilia, come find me in the office tomorrow night, okay?
The second screenshot ended, and then came the third.
Felix Preston: Cecilia, I didn’t mean to do that just now. I just saw how beautiful you are and lost a little control.
Cecilia Quincy: Senior, I’m begging you, please stop, okay? I’m scared.
Felix Preston: What are you afraid of? I haven’t hurt you. I just like you, that’s all.
Cecilia Quincy: But I really do have a boyfriend!
Felix Preston: Stop lying to me. If that Ethan Lockwood you mentioned is really your boyfriend, then why were you too scared to call him when I told you to?
Cecilia Quincy: Senior! Whether Lockwood is my boyfriend or not, I will never like you! I’m begging you, stop harassing me!
Felix Preston: I’m not harassing you. This is me normally pursuing you. Cecilia, please stop rejecting me, okay?
There were three screenshots in total. As Sonia Quincy finished reading them one by one, the color instantly drained from her face.
"I never thought... he was this kind of person..."
"Hmph," Ethan Lockwood sneered. Seeing that Sonia Quincy had finished reading the screenshots, he went to take his phone back. "So now you know what kind of person he is? And you’re still going to be so devoted..."
"Wait!"
Sonia Quincy suddenly reached out and snatched Ethan Lockwood’s phone.
Ethan Lockwood was a little stunned. "What’s wrong?"
Sonia Quincy took a deep breath, barely suppressing the rage in her heart. Then, she took Ethan Lockwood’s phone and quickly forwarded the three screenshots to herself.
"I’m going to take this proof and confront Felix Preston!"
"...You’re going to confront him? When?"
Before Ethan Lockwood could fully react, Sonia Quincy tossed his phone onto the table, whipped out her own, and opened WeChat to quickly save the three screenshots.
With the screenshots secured, Sonia Quincy couldn’t be bothered to keep up the act with Ethan Lockwood any longer.
She grabbed her bag and her phone, then pushed herself up from the chair with a slight turn of her body.
"I’m going to confront him right now!" she shouted, feigning anger, and started to hurry away, leaving Ethan Lockwood to stare at her bewildering back.
"...Sonia Quincy!" Ethan Lockwood called after her, sitting dumbfounded in his chair, but she didn’t respond at all.
’She just left like that?’ Ethan Lockwood felt a vague sense of unease, but after a moment of thought, he couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong. He picked his phone up from the table and, after a few seconds of hesitation, unsent the three screenshots.
Visibly pregnant, Sonia Quincy walked quickly, not daring to stop until she had rounded a corner and was sure Ethan Lockwood could no longer see her.
Opening her phone again, she saw that Ethan Lockwood had unsent the three screenshots. But it didn’t matter. She had already successfully saved them. Even if Ethan Lockwood deleted her as a contact right now, it would be useless.
"Heh..."
She was in such a good mood that she couldn’t help but let out a mischievous laugh.
A little of the eye drops still lingered on her face. She raised a hand to gently wipe it away, her smile growing even brighter.
BUZZ BUZZ—
Just then, a WeChat message from Ethan Lockwood popped up at the top of her screen.
—Sonia Quincy, do you need my help?
Sonia Quincy smiled and replied: No need. While your screenshots are certainly something, Felix Preston is my husband, after all. I’ve decided to trust him. Let’s leave it at that. And from now on, you’re not allowed to speak ill of him anymore.
Ethan Lockwood: ...
Ethan Lockwood: You really are stubborn until the bitter end! You’ll have plenty of regrets later on.
Sonia Quincy didn’t bother replying. She exited her chat with him and switched over to respond to the voice message Felix Preston had just sent.
"Honey, I’m coming home now! Wait for me!"
"...Lynn, what are you looking at?"
Not far away, Lynn Preston was hiding in a corner, staring intently at Sonia Quincy’s back without blinking.
Milly looked at her, her face full of confusion, and poked her arm. "Do you know that woman?"
