Chapter 869: Chapter 869: Hated to the Core

The young man gazed into the deepest part of the row of houses, from where the mournful cries were coming.

Hearing the sound of the door beside him opening, An Mingji turned his head, looking gently at Gu Jin: "Ah Jin, were you woken up as well?"

"With such a racket, it’s hard not to be." Gu Jin replied helplessly.

Perhaps for ordinary people, even from such a distance, the sound would not reach their ears.

She and Xiao An, however, were cultivators, even having surpassed Foundation Establishment.

Any movements around them could easily be heard by them.

An Mingji approached Gu Jin, attentively adjusting the cloak on her: "The night wind is strong, be careful not to catch a cold."

Gu Jin nodded and asked him: "Who’s locked up there?"

To make such mournful noises, clearly someone Qiu Qianghai loathes to the bone.

She could faintly hear Qiu Qianghai’s questioning voice, laced with resentment.

An Mingji actually knew who was locked up there.

It was he who had someone investigate the connections Minmin had with a woman before her passing, identifying her as the main reason Minmin left.

He spoke indifferently: "Someone who shouldn’t exist in this world."

Gu Jin nodded, not probing further.

Since her Xiao An said it was someone who shouldn’t exist, she no longer felt it worthy of her attention.

Gu Jin lazily yawned: "Let’s go back to sleep, we still have to get up early tomorrow."

"Alright—"

Watching her return to her room, An Mingji stood at the door, staring in the direction of the sound, motionless for a long time.

After a while, he glanced back at the room Gu Jin was in, and quietly walked away.

An Mingji followed the sound to a room exuding a strange smell.

Inside, the mournful sound was distinct.

The noise couldn’t be called human; one might as well call it a beast.

An assistant stationed at the door saw him and immediately greeted him: "Young Master An, haven’t you slept yet?"

An Mingji showed a half-smiling expression: "With such noise, how could I sleep?"

The assistant was puzzled; fearing the commotion here would disturb Young Master An and Miss Gu, the boss specially placed their rooms the farthest away to avoid disturbing them.

Logically, they shouldn’t hear any noise from here.

But he couldn’t refute what Young Master An said.

Considering the boss’s attitude towards the two of them, as well as today’s scene when Young Master An and Miss Gu arrived, he saw clearly that they were people he couldn’t afford to offend.

"Go inside and tell Brother Hai I’ve arrived."

The assistant promptly nodded and turned into the room.

An Mingji waited at the door.

A breeze swept over, carrying the fragrance of the flowers into his nose.

Deep in the floral scent, the young man’s eyes flashed with a trace of amusement.

This vast sea of flowers subtly stirred his heart, giving him an idea.

Soon Brother Hai emerged from inside, still carrying a faint bloody smell.

Turning back, An Mingji looked at the shadow-draped Qiu Qianghai and called out: "Brother Hai."

"Why are you here?" Qiu Qianghai approached him.

An Mingji looked past him, towards the ever-darkening house: "Inside is that woman?"

Even as he asked, his tone effortlessly carried certainty.

"Yes." Qiu Qianghai’s face showed indifference.

He had repeatedly warned Le Jiani against playing petty tricks, to stay away from everyone around him, and never breach his limits, or she would suffer a fate worse than death.

That woman dared to court disaster so foolishly; her stupidity was truly hateful.
