Chapter 499: Chapter 499: Who are you?
"It’s getting late, and Jiaojiao has an appointment with Professor Frank at the hospital tomorrow, so we’ll be taking our leave," Su Shuochi said apologetically.
He knew his wife was a kind soul; once the old sirs started with their sob stories, her heart would soften.
He was afraid that in a moment of soft-hearted impulse, she would produce all the equipment from the space at once.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to benefit the public, but he preferred a slow, gradual rollout—two new models a year at most.
Even after they were designed, their release had to be plausible to avoid attracting the enemy’s attention.
Not to mention the danger that comes with great talent. Knowing how that organization envied gifted individuals, constantly releasing new products would put their lives at risk.
"Oh, Jiaojiao has something tomorrow? In that case, you two should head home."
"Right. Jiaojiao, Shuo Ci, be careful on your way. We have a driver."
"Jiaojiao, when can we get together again?" Grandma Si asked, holding Gu Jiaojiao’s hand.
"Whenever we’re free, we can meet at Yuetai Restaurant for a meal," Gu Jiaojiao said, looking at the reluctant Grandma Si.
"Jiaojiao, so when are you free?" Old Sir Han also asked eagerly.
"How about next Sunday? Ziquan and my second brother are having their engagement party. We can all meet again then!"
"Good, good. Goodbye, Jiaojiao. We’re going to chat a bit more."
Still eager to talk, the old sirs could only let the young couple leave first so they could continue their discussion.
Su Shuochi took Gu Jiaojiao’s hand and led her downstairs. He opened the passenger side door for her to get in, then walked around the front of the car to get in himself.
Gu Jiaojiao looked up and saw the old sirs poking their heads out the window to watch them. She waved up at the second floor.
"Hee hee, Su Shuochi, look at those old sirs. They’re so cute, all crowded at the window watching us."
"Mm," the man responded in a low voice, then deftly started the car and sped off.
There weren’t many cars on the road, so Su Shuochi drove fast. Gu Jiaojiao chattered happily, and the man would chime in with a word or two from time to time.
Twenty minutes later, they were back in the courtyard of their little villa. Su Shuochi swiftly got out and shut the door.
He then went to lock the courtyard gate before unlocking the front door to their house. The moment the couple stepped into the living room,
Su Shuochi eagerly cupped the back of her head, crushing his lips against hers.
After a wild, deep kiss, Gu Jiaojiao could barely stand. Her legs felt weak, and her slender waist was sore.
With one hand on her slender waist and the other pressing against her, Su Shuochi backed her up step by step.
After who knows how many steps, her back hit the edge of the sofa, and in the next instant, he pressed her down onto it.
"Get off, we haven’t even washed up yet," Gu Jiaojiao said with a hint of annoyance.
The man’s voice was husky—it was hard to tell if it was the seductive night or if Su Shuochi was just exceptionally eager. "Be good. How about we go into the space and soak for a while?"
Instantly, the scene changed. They were in the Spiritual Spring Pool inside the space. Soaking in the water, the man didn’t make any overly aggressive moves.
Through it all, Su Shuochi never lectured his wife. He trusted her judgment.
’But he just couldn’t stop worrying about her!’
’When he was with her, however, he didn’t have the heart to criticize her. The way she was... was fine. He’d just have to be the one to worry.’
After soaking for a while, an impatient Su Shuochi carried Gu Jiaojiao to their bedroom.
The wind stirred the sheer curtains, causing them to sway gently.
The leaves on the tree outside the window swayed in the wind, bathed in the bright moonlight.
In the bedroom, the two figures on the bed also moved restlessly...
「The next day. 9:30 AM.」
"Jiaojiao, time to get up." The man sitting on the edge of the bed gently shook his sleeping wife awake.
He gazed intently at his beloved wife, his expression full of adoration as he watched her flutter her eyes open only to close them again.
He shook his head, helpless. ’In a minute,’ he thought, ’she’s going to complain that I didn’t wake her up earlier.’
Sure enough, once Gu Jiaojiao was fully awake and looked at her watch, she exclaimed, "Su Shuochi, it’s already nine-thirty! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?"
She sat up with a start. "Ouch! You beast! Look what you’ve done."
"Honey, want me to carry you to the bathroom?" Su Shuochi asked, rubbing his nose sheepishly.
"Get lost. I don’t need your help. I can manage on my own," Gu Jiaojiao shot him a playful glare.
In an instant, she entered the space to soak in the spiritual spring water. Otherwise, she really wouldn’t have been able to manage on her own.
’This damn guy has way too much energy!’
When she emerged again, Gu Jiaojiao was refreshed and invigorated, sitting at her vanity. "Hubby, do you think my hair looks better tied up or left down?"
"Either way is beautiful. Whatever you like is fine," Su Shuochi said, still sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Hmph. I don’t know why I even bothered asking you."
Su Shuochi: ...
’He was telling the truth, really. No matter how she did her hair or what she wore, to him, she was uniquely beautiful—the most beautiful woman in the world.’
’In this world, she was the only woman who could ever catch his eye.’
Seeing that his wife was genuinely unhappy, he immediately walked to her side and said with melting tenderness, "Honey, I’ll do it for you."
He deftly took a simple, elegant hair ribbon from the vanity drawer.
He immediately set to work, gently gathering her faintly fragrant hair.
He combed through it with his long, porcelain-white fingers. He hadn’t been on the battlefield since his injury, and with the nourishment of the spiritual spring water, his skin had also grown fairer.
He held the ribbon and gently wound it around her hair. His movements were so gentle, it was impossible to imagine he used to be an iron-blooded Zhan Lang.
Gu Jiaojiao could clearly feel his fingers brushing against her scalp, sending a slight tingle through her.
’Her heart began to race. She suspected he was doing it on purpose, but she had no proof.’
He finished tying her hair, and Gu Jiaojiao turned to the side to look in the mirror.
His technique was getting better and better—even better than her own. "Thank you," she said, pleased. "Let’s go downstairs and eat."
’She knew he’d made breakfast long ago. She was truly happy to have a man like him by her side for the rest of her life.’
Gu Jiaojiao appeared at the school gate at ten o’clock sharp. Principal Shen and Frank had also just arrived.
"Good morning, Teacher Jiaojiao! Let’s get going," Frank called out enthusiastically from a distance.
"Good morning, Professor Frank. Morning, Principal Shen," Gu Jiaojiao greeted with a wide smile.
Also going to the hospital today were a dozen or so senior students from the sixth-year class.
Gu Jiaojiao didn’t know any of them, so she just gave a single nod as a general greeting.
Principal Shen invited Professor Frank to get in the car. However, the principal then turned to Gu Jiaojiao and, as usual, insisted she get in first.
Gu Jiaojiao was used to the principal’s ways by now, so she simply smiled and got in without protest.
"Hmph. Who’s this new girl? She has no manners at all, getting in the car before the principal. What a lack of upbringing."
A shrill female voice cut through the air, accompanied by the CLACK-CLACK-CLACK of high heels on the pavement.
The senior student, clip-clopping on what looked like three-inch heels, strode briskly to Principal Shen’s side.
She even reached out, intending to pull Gu Jiaojiao from the car.
Gu Jiaojiao remained seated, unmoving, but a chilling light flickered deep within her eyes.
Radiating an unapproachable coldness, she demanded, "And who are you?"
