Chapter 487: Chapter 487: Shattered Values
Second Aunt Si was older and more self-restrained, so she could hold back her laughter, but the other members of the younger generation couldn’t suppress their amusement.
Low chuckles echoed through the quiet living room, sounding particularly grating to Third Aunt Si’s ears. She spat threats while mopping the floor.
"What are you looking at? You think I’m in for it? Let me tell you, my bad luck is over.
Don’t you forget, my father’s apprentices are everywhere. Listen up! If you piss me off, watch your own damn necks.
Don’t think this means anything just because I’m mopping the floor. I’m only doing this out of respect for Grandma and Grandpa, giving you all some face. Hmph, keep laughing, and you’ll see what happens."
Her voice was so loud that not only did everyone in the Si Family living room hear her, but even Grandma Si and the Si Family Master, who were in the guest room with Old Sir Si during his acupuncture, heard her as well.
But they paid no mind to Third Aunt Si’s clamoring, because the Divine Doctor’s acupuncture had reached a critical stage.
Gu Jiaojiao remained entirely focused on applying the Golden Needles, not letting the gossip from the Si Family living room distract her.
But Su Shuochi, who was just standing by her side wiping her sweat, had extremely sharp hearing and heard everything clearly.
As long as that mother-daughter duo didn’t provoke his wife again, he had no intention of teaching them a lesson.
After she finished mopping the floor, Third Aunt Si tossed the mop aside, strode brazenly to the sofa, and sat down, leisurely crossing her legs.
She said coolly, "Little Nine, pour your Third Aunt a cup of tea. Xiao Shi, go get me a plate of fruit."
Little Nine was Second Aunt’s youngest daughter, and Xiao Shi was Si Jinghao’s youngest sister. They were so used to being ordered around by their Third Aunt that they stood up instinctively.
"Little Nine, you’re not a maid. Why should you listen to her? Come sit next to Mom," Second Aunt Si said, showing no deference.
"Second Sister-in-law, you dare to oppose me? Tsk tsk... How can you be so stupid!"
"Third Sister-in-law, this is the Si Family, not the Ye family. Don’t go too far. How dare you call me stupid."
"I’m calling you stupid. What are you going to do about it?"
"You..." Second Aunt Si’s chest heaved with anger. She glared at her third sister-in-law, speechless.
Seeing her second sister-in-law rendered speechless by her retort, Third Aunt Si gloated, glaring at Little Nine and Xiao Shi, just about to scold them.
Just then, she saw her daughter, exquisitely dressed and looking absolutely beautiful and elegant, come running down the stairs toward her.
She hadn’t expected her daughter to be so eager to stick by her side, ignoring their previous spat. She was so delighted that she couldn’t even bring herself to scold her two nieces.
Who would have thought that her daughter would run right past her without so much as a glance?
Third Aunt Si turned to follow her daughter’s gaze and saw the door to the first-floor guest room open. A perfect couple emerged from within.
Su Shuochi opened the door with one hand while gently supporting Gu Jiaojiao’s arm with the other as they walked out side by side.
He felt his wife must be tired from the acupuncture and needed his support. In reality, Gu Jiaojiao didn’t need anyone to hold her up; it made her seem too delicate.
But since the door was already open and everyone in the living room was staring straight at them, she didn’t push him away.
When Si Yan came downstairs in her prettiest dress, she saw Su Shuochi walking out of the guest room.
’He’s so dazzling. A man like that is only worthy of me, the eighth young miss of the Si Family.’
So, without a second thought, she lunged forward, reaching out to yank Gu Jiaojiao away.
Su Shuochi spun around gracefully, holding his wife, to avoid her. Si Yan had lunged too hastily and stumbled, falling flat on her face.
She lay sprawled on the ground, staring dumbfounded at Su Shuochi, a look of disbelief on her face. ’Am I not beautiful enough?’
Her eyes were vacant for a few seconds before she pointed at Su Shuochi and demanded, "How could you do this? Pull me up, right now!"
Su Shuochi, still holding his wife, didn’t spare Si Yan a single glance as he strode toward the main entrance.
Gu Jiaojiao, however, said coldly and impatiently, "Where did this piece of trash come from? Shut your mouth."
Si Yan’s expression changed, and she seethed through gritted teeth, "Bitch, what’s with that attitude?! Do you know whose house this is?"
"Who’s the bitch calling a bitch?"
"The bitch is calling you a bitch! You clueless bitch, you’re dead this time," Si Yan cursed through clenched teeth.
"Pfft—"
"Hehe."
"Eighth Sister called herself a bitch!" the younger Si family members whispered, though not quietly at all.
"I don’t have time to argue with someone so vulgar today. Let’s hope you don’t run into me next time."
After saying this, Gu Jiaojiao buried her face in Su Shuochi’s chest. She felt too embarrassed to face the Si Family.
"Who are you calling vulgar? You shameless bitch!" Si Yan shouted back. "A woman like you from some backwater town and a nobody family is the one with no culture, the most vulgar person here!"
Infinite fury surged in Su Shuochi’s heart. He stopped in his tracks, wondering whether to curse the shameless creature or just kick her away.
But Gu Jiaojiao said gently, "Su Shuochi, we still have to get to the restaurant. Let’s not waste our time on trash."
Old Sir Si still relied on her medical skills, so she truly wasn’t afraid that Grandma Si wouldn’t punish her granddaughter.
’So why should they make a scene in the Si household! They weren’t that close with Elder Si. It was better to give Elder Si and the Si Family Master some face, so it would be easier to ask for favors in the future.’
"Slut..." Si Yan glanced at the "bitch" in Su Shuochi’s arms, then glared at Su Shuochi.
She wanted nothing more than to go up and tear them apart. Unfortunately, she was still sprawled on the floor. Normally too coddled, she couldn’t even manage to get up.
The rest of the Si Family watched her with schadenfreude, but no one went to help her up.
As she watched the man leave with that bitch in his arms, monstrous hatred surged in Si Yan’s heart.
Third Aunt Si was still in a daze. Her daughter hadn’t given her a single look since coming downstairs, which was something she couldn’t accept.
Old Sir Si was too exhausted to pay attention to the shouting outside. The Si Family Master and Grandma Si were still in the guest room, helping him wipe down and get dressed.
Although they heard Si Yan’s shrieks, the mother and son had no time to deal with it. In their hearts, Old Sir Si was the most important.
Lady Si came out with two servants carrying several plates of pastries, only to see the back of the Divine Doctor’s man as he was leaving.
She looked at her eldest son, completely baffled. "Jinghao, why is the Divine Doctor’s husband leaving?"
Si Jinghao was still reeling from the shock of his eighth cousin’s utterly shattered moral compass.
He had never imagined that their Si Family could produce such a shameless cousin.
Their grandfather came from a long line of aristocrats, their grandmother was born into a prominent family, and his own mother was from a wealthy family as well.
They had all received the most elite education since childhood. When had he ever witnessed such deplorable thinking?
"Mom, don’t ask. We’ve accepted that Eighth Sister has been spoiled and domineering since she was a child. We could even tolerate her being all beauty and no brains.
But I never, ever thought that Eighth Sister would be so utterly shameless, practically tripping over herself to be some guy’s mistress.
And now she’s scared off the Divine Doctor and her husband! Is the Si Family’s upbringing really this pathetic? To raise a daughter who is so vulgar!"
Lady Si: ...
Her eldest son’s questions felt like a punch to the gut. How could she face her in-laws and her husband now!
’Should I, the matriarch, resign in shame?’
It wasn’t that she hadn’t noticed Little Eight was going down the wrong path. But the girl had her own mother backing her up, and on top of that, her maternal grandfather was Old Sir Si’s attending physician.
Even her mother-in-law had to tolerate them to some extent, so the rest of them could only treat that mother-daughter pair like ancestors to be worshipped.
