Chapter 474: Chapter 474: A Handful of Golden Needles Saves a Life

Professor Frank then looked over at Principal Shen and his group, praising them from the heart. "The Empire’s traditional medicine is truly profound and complex. It’s miraculous."

Several of the foreign experts couldn’t help but break into applause. "This is amazing."

Principal Shen and the others couldn’t hide their expressions of admiration. Receiving unanimous praise from the foreign experts was a great point of pride.

Most of the professors were thrilled, especially since Gu Jiaojiao was only a first-year student at their university.

However, a couple of them were unconvinced, though they wouldn’t dare show it at a time like this.

Professor Frank continued in English, "Let’s visit a major hospital in the Imperial City today to see if we can find any cases that use an integrated approach of both traditional and Western medicine."

"Western medicine is quite formidable as well," Gu Jiaojiao replied humbly. "Professor Frank’s surgical skills, in particular, are unparalleled. You’re being far too modest."

Gu Jiaojiao delivered the compliment with humility. Her voice, calm and unhurried, was like the song of a lark, and her presence was as serene and elegant as a rare orchid blooming in a secluded valley.

’She knew that this Frank was already one of the world’s top surgical experts, even at this point in time.’

’Even in the future, Frank’s name would still be recognized throughout the medical community as the father of surgery.’

’Gu Jiaojiao felt truly honored to be able to interact with Frank in his youth.’

In the eyes of the foreign experts, her graciousness was simply proof that the more capable a person is, the more polite they are.

This made the foreign experts admire her all the more, wishing they could just snatch her away to be a professor in their own countries.

Frank grew excited at the thought that he could learn more about the principles of traditional Chinese medicine from Teacher Jiaojiao in the future.

He turned to Principal Shen, who had been standing by without a chance to speak, and asked with a wide smile, "Shall we head out now?"

"Yes, of course. Professor Frank, esteemed experts, please." Principal Shen bowed slightly and gestured for them to board the vehicle first.

"Then I won’t stand on ceremony," Frank said before getting into the car and taking a seat. The other foreign experts followed in an orderly fashion.

"Jiaojiao, you should get in as well," Principal Shen said, kindly inviting Gu Jiaojiao to board first.

"Principal Shen, after you."

"Jiaojiao, please, you go first. You can ride with Professor Frank."

"Alright, then I’ll accept. Thank you, Principal Shen." Gu Jiaojiao found it difficult to refuse his kind insistence, so she boarded the car.

Principal Shen, along with a group of medical professors, teachers, and a large contingent of outstanding students from the university, quickly boarded the other vehicles as well.

The large procession made its way toward the First People’s Hospital. As soon as they departed, someone from the university placed a call to the hospital. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

The hospital’s old dean was already at the entrance, personally leading a crowd of doctors and a few hand-picked, most beautiful nurses to greet them.

Xia Qiuming, the vice dean, was supposed to be there for the reception, but he happened to be performing surgery at that moment and could not attend.

At the hospital’s main entrance, Principal Shen, Frank, and the rest of their group stepped out of the cars and saw the old dean dressed in a white coat.

He led his staff and walked briskly up to Principal Shen’s delegation. Everyone was thrilled to see the foreign medical experts up close.

An excited Professor Frank went forward and embraced the old dean. "It’s an honor to meet you."

"Me too." The old dean had studied abroad in his youth, so he could handle a simple conversation.

The pretty nurses stood ramrod straight on either side. "We welcome all the esteemed experts."

The old dean personally led the way, with Frank and the other experts following close behind.

They toured one department after another. When they encountered a particularly interesting case, the experts would stop to discuss it with the attending physician.

A professor from the foreign languages department was on hand to translate, and Gu Jiaojiao would occasionally step in to help with some of the more specialized medical terminology.

The hospital corridors were bustling with people—doctors, nurses, patients, and their families.

There were nurses with beaming smiles and patients’ families whose faces were etched with worry, anxiety, and hope.

They all gazed eagerly at the door the foreign experts had disappeared through, waiting patiently for them to emerge just to catch a glimpse of the distinguished visitors.

Both the hospital staff and the visiting experts took this tour very seriously.

"Principal Shen, Dean, does your hospital really have some of the world’s most advanced medical equipment?"

Frank asked in astonishment, his voice trembling and rising in pitch with excitement.

"What? This equipment is really some of the most advanced in the world?" Principal Shen asked back, even more incredulous.

The dean, on the other hand, nodded proudly. "And it’s all manufactured right here in our country."

"You manufacture it yourselves? In that case, the Empire’s medical technology has already surpassed that of many other nations," one of the foreign experts muttered to himself.

Just as the group was leaving a patient’s room, they were met by an assistant doctor with a troubled expression. "Dean, Dean, you have to come quick! The patient in Bed 5 is fading fast!"

"Where’s Dean Xia?" the dean asked sternly. ’What a lack of awareness! Can’t he see I’m escorting our foreign guests?!’

"Dean Xia is in the middle of a surgery."

"I’ll go take a look then. Please excuse me for a moment, everyone." With a brief gesture of apology, the dean hurried away.

Without a second thought, Frank followed him. The others naturally trailed along toward the patient’s room.

In an instant, the room was packed with people. On the bed lay a patient in his fifties, showing no signs of life.

The dean was still checking with his instruments while the various monitors beside the bed blared with life-threatening alarms.

Without a word, Gu Jiaojiao stepped forward, pulled a set of silver needles from her bag, and said, "Dean, let me try."

"You? A slip of a girl, still wet behind the ears? You..." Before the dean could continue his tirade, Gu Jiaojiao pulled him aside with surprising force.

The dean’s face turned ashen as he stood by the side. ’How dare this little upstart humiliate me in front of the foreign experts! The audacity!’

The two medical professors who had been resentful of Gu Jiaojiao were now standing by the door, gloating. They hoped the patient would simply die on the spot.

But Gu Jiaojiao had no time to worry about what others were thinking. It wasn’t enough for her to pierce the patient’s heart with a handful of golden needles.

Everyone then watched in horror as she inserted another golden needle into the patient’s temple, making their own hearts pound in their chests.

The second vice dean, a professor known as the "Saint of National Medicine" who had been part of the entourage, thought Gu Jiaojiao was being utterly reckless.

He stood at the door and roared, "She’s a madwoman! Sticking those golden needles in like that—is there any hope for the patient to live?"

Just as the others were about to chime in, the heart rate monitor began to beep. BEEP... BEEP...

Everyone watched as the heart rate on the screen, which had been a flat 5, began to slowly climb.

Those who didn’t know Gu Jiaojiao saw only a young woman with cool, elegant features, her expression intensely focused, as if she were immersed in a world containing only herself and the patient.

The atmosphere in the room was quiet, yet surreal.

An unknown amount of time passed before Gu Jiaojiao placed the final golden needle. She let out a soft breath and straightened her back.

The heart rate monitor beside the bed showed that the patient’s pulse had risen into the normal range, and his other vital signs were also stabilizing.

It was a sight rarely seen in the entire medical field. Everyone involuntarily held their breath.
