Chapter 461: Chapter 461: The Si Family
When Gu Jiaojiao saw how foolishly happy the man looked, her own mood lifted as well.
He was the one person she had fallen for in two lifetimes. Not only was he handsome, but he also adored her.
She never doubted his feelings for her, so she didn’t mind telling him what was on her mind to make him happy and content.
After his initial excitement faded, the man asked worriedly, "Honey, does Elder Si have any other major health issues?"
"No, nothing else. His heart condition was triggered by underlying causes from some minor ailments that were treated over time.
Elder Si is too old for surgery, but I have my own exclusive, specially-formulated medicine.
Combined with my special acupuncture techniques, he’ll need a period of careful conditioning to make a full recovery.
The body’s organs and meridians are all interconnected. It’s easy for one small issue to affect the entire system.
Some symptoms, like wandering or throbbing pain, might seem minor on the surface, but they’re actually caused by blockages in the meridians connected to the internal organs."
"Actually, Elder Si retired long ago. He must have been called back to preside over something for a special reason this time.
He fainted from the stress. The Si Family has many children and grandchildren, and they all hold high positions. Jiaojiao, if the Si Family doesn’t ask for you again, just stay out of these troubled waters, okay?"
"Okay, I’ll listen to you. If the Si Family doesn’t ask for me, I won’t get involved again. Today was an exception. If I hadn’t stepped in when I did, Elder Si might have died!"
Gu Jiaojiao understood his worries. Elder Si was powerful and held a high position; failing to cure him would bring disaster upon her.
Besides, he already had a personal physician. Even if she did cure him, she’d have to worry about retaliation from Elder Si’s doctor.
In short, one wrong move and she could be crushed. But she couldn’t just stand by and watch someone die out of fear.
’Competition isn’t as fierce these days as it will be in the future. Elder Si’s personal physician was very polite to me, so he probably won’t hold a grudge, right?’
If something really happened to her, this man probably wouldn’t be able to live on. The thought made Gu Jiaojiao’s heart ache.
"Honey, thank you." But he was more worried about her. Su Shuochi was caught in a dilemma.
On one hand, he desperately wanted to save the old hero; on the other, he was deeply concerned for his wife’s safety.
If her medical skills weren’t superb, a single mistake or moment of carelessness could make people despise her.
"Oh, what’s there to thank me for? For a doctor, saving people is an instinct," Gu Jiaojiao said with a chuckle.
"Honey, don’t call me petty. I just want you to live a peaceful and happy life. But if something really were to happen, I’d risk my life to protect you."
"Haha, you’re being too serious. Have you forgotten? We have the spiritual spring water. It can cure most illnesses."
"Honey, my biggest fear is the spiritual spring water being exposed. The consequences would be unimaginable."
"Don’t worry. I won’t use the spiritual spring water to save people unless it’s an absolute last resort.
Take Mu Ziquan’s leg, for example. I could have healed it instantly, just like I did with you. But I’m using normal treatment methods. Even though it’s incredibly painful for him, he’ll be able to stand again."
"Yes, yes, exactly. It’s this kind of gradual treatment that makes them grateful and lets them see how superb your medical skills are."
Su Shuochi was truly, incredibly excited. His heart felt like it was blooming, full of sweetness and thrill.
The couple went home happily, cooked a meal, and ate together in sweet bliss.
Meanwhile, Mu Ziquan, whom she had just mentioned, was now able to take two difficult steps while supported by his bodyguards.
Although the pain made him want to scream, it was just as Su Shuochi had said: more than anything, he felt gratitude.
"Grandpa, I was able to take two steps today! Should we call Ms. Gu?"
"Really? That’s wonderful! Jiaojiao is coming over on Saturday for your acupuncture session. You can give her a big surprise then."
"Okay, whatever you say, Grandpa. I’m going to the balcony to practice." Mu Ziquan was more excited than he had ever been.
Meanwhile, as Si Jingping was driving Old Sir Si home, he said, "Grandpa, that Jiaoci Medical Equipment Factory our family invested in... it’s run by the Divine Doctor and her husband."
"Really? No wonder that Old Guy Geng was always urging our family to invest. The old fellow really wasn’t misleading me!" Old Sir Si exclaimed in surprise.
"It’s absolutely true. Here’s the business card Su Shuochi gave me." As he spoke, Si Jingping handed the card to his grandfather.
"For now, don’t tell anyone in the family about this except for your father. We want to avoid causing any trouble for the Divine Doctor."
"Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’ll remember every word you said," Si Jingping replied earnestly.
He went on to tell his grandfather how Gu Jiaojiao had not only been graceful and poised but also incredibly knowledgeable and talented when she received the foreign experts that day.
As a fourth-year mechanical engineering student at Imperial University, he then asked, "Grandpa, after I graduate, would it be alright if I went to work at the medical equipment factory?"
"Yes, that factory has a very promising future. They’ve already produced two models of advanced medical equipment," Elder Si praised excitedly.
When the grandfather and grandson arrived home, the whole Si family was waiting for them to have dinner.
As soon as Old Sir Si returned, someone brought him a basin of water to wash his hands. Only then did everyone take their seats at the table. The Si Family’s upbringing was strict; no one spoke during meals.
After dinner, the butler and a household assistant began to clear the table. Old Sir Si then summoned everyone to the meeting hall to discuss something.
Old Sir Si was seventy-one years old. He had four sons and two daughters, all of whom had long since married and had children of their own.
His eldest grandson already had several children of his own. Other grandsons were on the front lines, but several of them were also married with children. Four generations of the Si Family lived together in harmony.
Elder Si’s eldest son and eldest grandson were in politics, so they were at home. Si Jingping was the youngest son of Elder Si’s eldest son; he was twenty-two and in his fourth year of university.
The other three sons and several grandsons were on the front lines. The eldest son of the family’s third son worked in the entertainment industry, while his younger brother was in university.
The two sons of the family’s youngest son were in university and high school, respectively. All of the daughters-in-law were at home.
His two daughters were already grandmothers themselves and only returned to the Si family estate for major events or holidays.
Elder Si’s eldest son, the current Si Family Master, helped the old man to the main living room, where the rest of the family were already standing in their designated places.
"All of you, sit," Old Sir Si said, gesturing to the long sofas that lined the large living room.
"Grandpa, Eldest Uncle, please, you first."
"Great-Grandpa, Grand-Uncle, please, you first."
The Si Family Master helped Elder Si to the seat of honor. "Father, please sit."
He then sat in the adjacent seat. "Everyone, please be seated."
The daughters-in-law of the Si Family, accompanied by their own daughters, had already brought in trays of tea and sliced fruit, placing them on the large rectangular table in the center of the room.
A small tea table stood beside the seats of honor, exclusively for the two occupants. Tea and fruit had been placed there as well.
"Jingping, tell everyone what happened today in detail," Old Sir Si said, gesturing toward Si Jingping.
"Yes, Grandpa." Si Jingping nodded and stood up.
Slightly flushed with excitement, he cleared his throat and recounted everything that had happened when he went to pick up his grandfather.
"Jingping, your grandfather had a close call today. It’s a good thing the Divine Doctor’s treatment was so timely," the Si Family Master remarked with a sigh after hearing the story.
