Chapter 446: Chapter 446: A Woman Who Loves to Stir Up Trouble
Principal Shen instructed his right-hand man, the vice-principal, to prepare invitations for every person of status in the Imperial City.
He then personally led the group of professors and the selected students to accompany Frank and the other experts to the second floor of the school cafeteria for a meal.
The five experts, Principal Shen, the foreign language professor, and Gu Jiaojiao sat at one table, making a group of eight.
The other students chosen to accompany the experts sat at another table, along with senior professors who normally ate on the second floor anyway.
At the table, the selected students finally had a chance to take turns toasting the experts and exchanging a few words with them.
Far from being displeased, they felt it was a great honor to speak a word or two with the experts up close.
Shen Ling was the first to go up and offer a toast. He knew a couple of simple English phrases, and he had never been so regretful. ’Why on earth didn’t I study harder?’
He had happened to meet Gu Jiaojiao during the selection trials for the medical majors.
Gu Jiaojiao hadn’t participated in the trials back then, so she didn’t particularly stand out.
But Jiang Ruyan had picked a fight with her, and Gu Jiaojiao’s counterattack had been so brilliant that Shen Ling remembered her.
Later, he heard from his older brother, Shen Ding, that Gu Jiaojiao had once helped him at the Han family home and had even mentioned Shen Ling’s name specifically.
This made Shen Ling look really good in front of his older brother. From that moment on, his admiration for Gu Jiaojiao flowed like a surging river, endless and unceasing.
He and his followers had been trying to get close to Gu Jiaojiao, but they never found an opportunity.
When he learned that Gu Jiaojiao had been chosen to host the foreign experts, Shen Ling, who wasn’t good at English, threw caution to the wind and shamelessly asked his grandfather to pull some strings.
That was how he got the chance to stand alongside Gu Jiaojiao. Today, however, had been even more of an eye-opener.
From this day forward, his admiration for Gu Jiaojiao soared to new heights. He and his followers would follow her every command.
When it was his turn to toast, Shen Ling could only manage "Hello, cheers," followed by a silly chuckle, making his grandfather, Principal Shen, feel deeply embarrassed.
In his youth, Principal Shen had studied abroad in several countries. He was a man of immense talent and spoke multiple foreign languages.
He discreetly shot his grandson a disdainful glare before turning back to the experts with a beaming smile to drink with them.
Mr. Gu was also a senior professor, so he normally ate on the second floor.
In his youth, he had also been to several countries and was fluent in two foreign languages.
Although he had no desire to curry favor with the foreign experts, he doted on his daughter. So, he too went over to the experts’ table to offer a toast.
Gu Jiaojiao had just finished a round of toasts with the experts and was about to raise her glass to Principal Shen.
Seeing Mr. Gu approaching with a glass in hand, she immediately turned and called out, "Dad, a toast to you."
Mr. Gu hadn’t expected his daughter to toast him in front of so many people. He was so thrilled that a wave of excitement rushed to his head.
He was so overjoyed he could hardly think straight. Without a word, he downed the drink in his glass in one gulp.
Professor Frank discreetly asked Principal Shen what Teacher Gu had said, and the principal translated for him.
He shot to his feet, raised his glass, and toasted Mr. Gu. "Teacher’s papa, I toast you!"
His voice was loud, and his mangled Chinese made everyone roar with laughter.
"I owe you my respect, Professor Frank," Mr. Gu said, his face wreathed in smiles.
Upon learning that Professor Gu was Gu Jiaojiao’s father, another round of pleasantries erupted.
"Professor Gu is so brilliant, it’s no wonder Gu Jiaojiao is so exceptional. The apple truly doesn’t fall far from the tree."
"Exactly! I heard that not only are Gu Jiaojiao’s grades excellent, but her medical skills are superb!"
"How do you know that?"
"Didn’t you see? Professor Frank wants to become her student," one student whispered scornfully to the person next to them.
"..."
Faced with a barrage of compliments from the other professors, Professor Gu’s eyes crinkled in a smile. "Thank you all for your praise and support for Jiaojiao."
"Not at all! Professor Gu, you’re too modest. We’re all proud of Gu Jiaojiao."
After some time, Xu Bo finally picked up his glass and walked over to Professor Frank to offer a toast up close.
"Professor Frank, it’s an honor to meet you. A toast to you," Xu Bo said shyly, then downed his glass in one go as a sign of respect.
"Young man, you’re too kind." Professor Frank stood up enthusiastically and clinked glasses with Xu Bo before drinking.
He was a tall man, and because he now considered Gu Jiaojiao his teacher, he was being particularly courteous.
This was especially true when he saw the young man before him, who was more handsome than a movie star. His features were sharply defined, as if carved from stone.
He had dark, deep eyes, a tall, straight nose, and exquisitely thin lips like cherry blossom petals. His entire brow and forehead projected a dashing air.
Professor Frank’s enthusiasm left Xu Bo flustered. "No... I should be the one toasting you again. Please, drink as you wish."
Xu Bo said this in fluent English, raising his glass to clink it with Professor Frank’s once more.
Professor Frank clinked his glass in return and downed the contents. "Good, good..."
Frank said "good" twice in a row, a clear sign of how happy he was today.
"Young man, let’s sit down and have a proper chat," Professor Frank said, pointing to the empty seat beside him.
Xu Bo was not only an excellent medical student, but he had also mastered foreign languages. His dream was to study abroad to learn even more advanced medical techniques.
Little did he know, the person with the most masterful medical skills was right there beside him, and he was completely unaware!
He had always wanted to study under Professor Frank; that was the ultimate goal he had been working toward.
All of his hard work had been for the sake of going abroad to meet Professor Frank just once.
And yet, today, Professor Frank himself believed that Gu Jiaojiao’s medical skills were even more superb than his own.
The meal went on for a long time, with much drinking. Several of the experts and professors were starting to get drunk.
Only Gu Jiaojiao and Principal Shen were not drunk. Mindful of his responsibilities, the principal hadn’t dared to drink much, while Gu Jiaojiao had used spiritual spring water to counteract the alcohol.
Principal Shen had an assistant summon the teachers who hadn’t been drinking to help escort everyone to rest.
Principal Shen personally helped Frank and his group to the university guest house with his assistant.
Seeing that there was nothing else for her to do, Gu Jiaojiao informed Principal Shen she was leaving and headed back to her classroom.
As she neared the corner by her classroom door, her path was blocked by Xu Lin, Lin Sisi, and another girl.
Xu Lin had been bested by Gu Jiaojiao at the Han family home before, so she was still a little afraid of her and hung back a half-step.
Lin Sisi dragged her older cousin, Lin Wanwan, forward and roared at Gu Jiaojiao.
"You shameless caregiver! So you’re a freshman, huh? Did you come from the countryside? Are you only working as a caregiver because you’re broke?"
Gu Jiaojiao stared at Lin Sisi as if she were looking at a lunatic. ’These girls just love to stir up trouble!’ she thought.
"I mean, you’re all students at Imperial University, aren’t you? Could you at least attempt to observe basic human social etiquette?"
As she spoke, she waved a delicate hand in front of her nose before covering it in disgust.
"Oh my, from the looks of it, your halitosis must be pretty severe. That H. pylori sure is persistent, isn’t it?"
