Chapter 444: Chapter 444: The Expert Wants to Become a Disciple

Shen Ling was half a step behind Gu Jiaojiao, so she had no choice but to step forward, extend a slender hand, and greet the second expert.

"Hello, I am Gu Jiaojiao, a freshman majoring in medicine. Welcome to our school."

"Gu Jiaojiao is not only very beautiful, but also quite brilliant," the expert greeted her warmly.

Everyone walked onto the stage side-by-side, smiling. Although the other students were timid and hesitant, seeing a classmate dare to shake hands with the experts kept them from making a fool of themselves.

"Welcome! A warm welcome..." the teachers and students in the audience shouted in Chinese, their voices accompanied by thunderous applause.

The experts, who must have often given lectures abroad, stood on stage with natural grace. They raised their hands to quiet the enthusiastic crowd.

The leader of the expert team held a megaphone and announced loudly in English, "We have the privilege of visiting Didu University. I would like to pose a few medical questions to the students. Whoever is the first to answer the questions I ask can become an exchange student in our country."

The foreign language professor from Imperial University was just thinking about how to translate it so that everyone present could understand.

Gu Jiaojiao was already conversing with the expert in English and translating it into Chinese for everyone.

"The expert said that they are honored to visit Imperial University and would like to ask the students a few questions about medicine. The first person to answer his questions can become an exchange student in their country."

It was the first time the foreign language professor had seen such a translation. It wasn’t a literal, word-for-word interpretation; rather, she was relaying the message from the perspective of both parties.

This approach was simple, clear, and easy for everyone to understand. It was truly novel.

While the professor was still lost in self-reflection, the experts began asking questions one after another, and Gu Jiaojiao answered each one fluently.

Although the questions they asked were quite tricky, they didn’t stump Gu Jiaojiao.

Anyone with less-than-professional English or medical knowledge would have been left speechless.

The foreign language professor, suddenly energized, stood to the side and began translating into Chinese for the audience. He had learned from Gu Jiaojiao’s method.

He felt that by abandoning a word-for-word approach, his own translation became much smoother.

Gu Jiaojiao was top-tier in both her English and medical skills. Even these first-rate foreign experts were a level below her.

"Hello, Gu Jiaojiao. My name is Frank. I heard you say you are a freshman studying clinical medicine, but your medical skills are already beyond our comprehension."

The team leader, Frank, told Gu Jiaojiao he was over fifty, but with his fair complexion, he looked more like he was in his forties.

"Hello, Frank. You’re right, I am a freshman. First, I’d like to thank the university for giving me this opportunity to demonstrate my skills.

It’s my honor to be able to converse with you all. As the saying goes, a single conversation with a wise person is worth more than ten years of study. I will continue to work hard.

There is a common saying in the Empire: success is one percent talent and ninety-nine percent sweat.

I believe I was born with a gift, and by combining that with my own hard work since I was a child, I’ve achieved what you see today."

The experts’ eyes lit up. They presented several more medical cases, and Gu Jiaojiao patiently analyzed each one for them.

Her case analyses were incredibly thorough. From diagnosis and treatment plans to prescriptions, every step she described was perfect.

Furthermore, her analyses were extraordinarily detailed.

The experts conferred in hushed tones for a while. Finally, the female expert posed one last question.

It concerned the proper treatment for a patient in septic shock.

Answers to this kind of problem are always somewhat flawed and controversial, but Gu Jiaojiao’s response was much more specific.

She made a clear distinction in the medication used for patients with acute septic shock versus those with standard septic shock.

This was a distinction that even the top experts in their own country might not have been able to make; indeed, none of them had thought of it.

Then the foreign experts took turns asking questions. Gu Jiaojiao answered every one, appearing more of an expert than the experts themselves.

It wasn’t just that Gu Jiaojiao was beautiful; more importantly, she spoke fluent English with a perfect London accent.

She had such a nonchalant air, it was as if English wasn’t a foreign language to her, but a dialect she could switch to at will.

Never mind the teachers and students who understood English; even those who didn’t could tell just by listening that this young woman was a master of the language.

It wasn’t that students from other majors had never taken a foreign language course, but they couldn’t understand a word right now.

Even among actual foreign language majors, very few could speak so fluently.

Besides, they knew nothing about medicine. Initially, the foreign language majors had been indignant about not being chosen to go on stage.

Only now did they understand why medical students were the ones who had to go up.

Gu Jiaojiao’s voice was captivating. Whether she was speaking English or standard Mandarin, it carried the full emotional weight and nuance of her words.

Frank was ready to kneel and beg her to be his teacher. The female expert, however, wanted to test the extent of Gu Jiaojiao’s knowledge of surgery.

Her husband happened to be an excellent surgeon, so she pushed him forward to face Gu Jiaojiao.

"If a heart patient presents with other syndromes, can you operate immediately?"

Gu Jiaojiao answered without hesitation. "If the patient’s cardiopulmonary functions are extremely fragile, rushing into surgery—even if successful—will leave behind severe long-term complications.

The path of medicine abhors the rigid application of formulas. It’s a simple principle that any competent surgeon should understand."

The female expert’s husband frowned. He felt the student was looking down on him, but he had no proof.

"If a patient in that condition doesn’t have surgery immediately, they could go into shock or even die!"

Gu Jiaojiao didn’t notice the couple’s stares. Her expression turned cold as she retorted.

"’Consequences? The consequences of your decision to operate would be death or permanent disability. How would you bear that responsibility? There is only one way to treat such a condition: acupuncture.’"

The couple laughed, but there was no humor in it. The female expert sneered, "You ignorant child. You learn a few parlor tricks and suddenly think you’re a hotshot."

The male expert added his own disgruntled accusation. "Acupuncture isn’t a cure-all! The patient has cardiopulmonary damage, not some simple headache or fever. You’re delaying a necessary surgery!"

The moment he finished speaking, Gu Jiaojiao raised her hand and stuck a needle into him. Words were a waste of effort.

The male expert instantly froze, unable to move. He stared, dumbfounded, at Gu Jiaojiao, repeatedly stammering, "The Empire’s acupuncture is this miraculous!"

His wife, the female expert, now gazed at Gu Jiaojiao with utter admiration. "Jiaojiao," she said excitedly, "if I had your ability, my husband and I would never argue."

"Why?" Gu Jiaojiao asked, confused. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"If he doesn’t listen to me, I could just stick him with a needle!" The female expert gave her a look that clearly said, ’You’re a medical genius, but you can be so dense.’

Gu Jiaojiao looked up and met the team leader’s eyes, which were filled with pure adoration.

Her own gaze remained cool and clear. She stated unequivocally, "Now, you should believe me."

The team leader on stage was beaming, looking as if he were one step away from kneeling to worship Gu Jiaojiao.

He kept repeating, "Teacher, you are my teacher!"
