Chapter 403: Chapter 403: Midnight Scare
Gu Jiaojiao didn’t have time to pay him any mind. She hurried to the bedside and glanced at Xia Qiuming, whose face was flushed.
Bending over, she reached out to feel Xia Qiuming’s forehead and asked, "This hot? Why didn’t you call me sooner?"
"At f-first, he was only a little warm. I tried using a cold towel to help Professor Xia cool down, but who knew..."
Mu Wu was about to say more but was cut off by Gu Jiaojiao. "Any later," she said sternly, "and his brain would have been fried."
Mu Ziquan and his two servants...
They pictured the brilliant Professor Xia’s fever turning him into a fool. The consequences were truly unthinkable.
Mu Shan was so anxious he was on the verge of tears. At his wit’s end, he asked, "Miss Gu, what should we do?"
"I’ll give him a fever-reducing shot and some medicine. The fever should break in ten to twenty minutes, and then he’ll be fine."
Gu Jiaojiao said, her voice softening when she saw that Mu Ziquan and the other two seemed frightened by her serious demeanor.
With deft movements, she took a fever reducer from her backpack and gave him an injection with a syringe that was already prepared by the bed.
Then, she fed him some more fever-reducing medicine mixed with spiritual spring water—a concoction she had prepared the night before.
After all that, she reached out to touch Xia Qiuming’s forehead again and said, pleasantly surprised, "His fever’s already gone."
"Professor Xia’s brain isn’t fried! Thank the heavens! Thank all the benevolent spirits for their blessings..."
"Thank you, Miss Gu." Mu Wu thanked Gu Jiaojiao sincerely, then turned and roared at Mu Shan.
"Mu Shan, are you an idiot? This was all Miss Gu’s doing! Why are you thanking spirits instead of her?"
"Exactly. Mu Wu is right," Mu Ziquan said, looking at Gu Jiaojiao. "We failed to take good care of Professor Xia. I’m sorry to have worried you."
Mu Ziquan gave Mu Wu an appreciative look, then looked at Gu Jiaojiao and said.
"Professor Xia’s condition makes him susceptible to high fevers. It’s not that you didn’t take good care of him. I was just a bit too frantic earlier.
Professor Xia just broke out in a sweat. Go get a basin of warm water and help him wash up. I’ll watch over him for the rest of the night."
As Gu Jiaojiao spoke, she walked over to Mu Ziquan’s bed, reached out her right hand, and touched his forehead. Thankfully, he didn’t have a fever.
Her sudden approach caught Mu Ziquan completely off guard, and he squeezed his eyes shut.
Perhaps closing his eyes made his other senses more acute. Her faint, sweet scent made Mu Ziquan’s heart flutter violently.
He tried his best to control himself, but he couldn’t stop a few shudders from running through him. The more flustered he became, the more violently he shook.
"Huh? You don’t have a fever. Is the room too cold? Why are you shaking like you have the chills?"
Gu Jiaojiao muttered to herself in confusion. The warmth of her breath brushed against Mu Ziquan’s neck, making his own breathing turn hot.
Though his eyes were closed, he didn’t dare speak. He, who usually prided himself on his excellent self-control, was now utterly routed.
"Miss Gu, look!" Mu Shan cried out from the other side of the bed. "Is our Young Master about to get a high fever? His face is so red!" Mu Wu, who was helping Xia Qiuming wash up, heard him and hurried over.
"He doesn’t have a fever," Gu Jiaojiao said definitively after taking Mu Ziquan’s pulse.
"Maybe his blanket is too thick." As she said this, Gu Jiaojiao moved to pull it back.
"I’m... not hot... It’s my leg. It hurts." Mu Ziquan quickly grabbed the corners of his blanket. ’If she lifts this and sees my... reaction, I’m done for!’
Gu Jiaojiao said sheepishly, "No wonder I couldn’t find anything wrong when I took your pulse. Damn it, I was being careless."
’His face was flushed red from the pain, and I didn’t even notice. I was busy wondering what kind of illness this was!’
’I even thought he was just shaken by Professor Xia’s high fever!’
Reproaching herself, Gu Jiaojiao immediately turned and walked toward Xia Qiuming’s bed.
She took a painkiller made with spiritual spring water from her backpack and handed it to Mu Shan. "Here, give this to him."
"Right away!" Mu Shan eagerly ran over to take the pill, then turned and quickly poured a cup of warm water.
He skillfully fed the pill into Mu Ziquan’s mouth, and the fragrant medicine pill slid down his throat.
A few minutes later, the pain in Mu Ziquan’s leg vanished completely. "Miss Gu, did you make this painkiller?"
"Yes. I’ve already handed over the formula to the relevant government departments." Gu Jiaojiao didn’t tell Mu Ziquan that she had given the formula to the Xiao Family.
’After all, I didn’t know Old Mu back then. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring the Mu Family into the electronics business in the future.’
"Once your leg has healed, let’s partner up and get into electronics manufacturing."
"Of course," Mu Ziquan said, casually laying on the flattery. "Going by how effective your medicine is, Miss Gu, my wound will heal much faster than with anything else."
"You’ve got a good eye. This special medicine of mine heals wounds twice as fast as ordinary ones."
’Of course, she didn’t dare mention she had a miracle cure that could heal wounds instantly. A medicine that defied the natural order like that... she’d never dare bring it out in public!’
’That’s what happened with Su Shuochi. He was healed in a flash. A little over an hour after his surgery, he was already up and walking briskly.’
"Master," Xia Qiuming said in a booming voice, having changed into a fresh hospital gown and looking full of life again. "With normal medicine, I would’ve had to wait two more days before I could even have liquids. But I already had juice today! I’m convinced your medicine is better than any of those high-end imported drugs."
"Stop thinking everything from abroad is better," Mu Ziquan finally found a chance to jab at Xia Qiuming, seeing both patients looking so lively.
Mu Shan, just to make conversation, piped up, "Miss Gu, I’m with you practically every day, but I didn’t recognize you at all with your makeup on."
"Haha, when I’m in disguise, forget you—my own mother wouldn’t recognize me," Gu Jiaojiao laughed, pleased with herself.
Her smile was dazzling. A gentle breeze from the window set her dark hair dancing, a breathtakingly beautiful sight.
Mu Ziquan’s gaze deepened as he watched her. "But I recognized you in an instant."
"Tch! You already knew my Master was the esteemed ’Miss Gu.’ Of course you’d recognize her when she walked into your own hospital room," Xia Qiuming scoffed.
"Hehe, Professor Xia has a point. If I’d been in the room, I would have recognized Miss Gu, too," Mu Shan added, ever the simpleton.
"I would recognize her even out on the street," Mu Ziquan insisted.
"Haha, I don’t even know if Su Shuochi could recognize me at first glance out in public, let alone any of you."
"No way, Miss Gu! Even your husband wouldn’t recognize you?" Mu Wu asked, surprised.
He quickly added, "I certainly didn’t recognize you, Miss Gu. Not even right here in this room."
"Hmph. You’re such a blockhead, who do you recognize besides the Master and the Young Master? Now hurry up, go wash some apples and make some juice for Miss Gu and the others."
Mu Shan didn’t stay idle after his outburst; he was already busy preparing some malted milk for Mu Ziquan.
"Right away. Miss Gu, would you prefer apple juice or mango juice?" Mu Wu asked respectfully.
"Make a few glasses of apple juice for yourselves. I’ll have mango juice," Gu Jiaojiao said without hesitation.
