Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Teasing
In an instant, the way Lin Yu looked at Wang Yuting changed. His eagle-like eyes turned to ice, as if he wanted to tear her apart on the spot.
Lin Yu’s gaze made Wang Yuting tremble. Unable to do anything to him, she turned and glared viciously at Gu Jiaojiao instead.
Her eyes were filled with venom. The glare shooting from her pupils looked like it could burn down a tree by the side of the road.
The moment Gu Jiaojiao entered the living room, all her attention was on Lin Yu and Wang Yuting.
Although the change in Lin Yu’s expression was swift, Gu Jiaojiao still caught it.
’No wonder Mu Ziquan said there was something off about the way Lin Yu looked at his girlfriend. That wasn’t the way you look at a partner; it was more like looking at an insignificant ant.’
’This Wang Yuting isn’t much to worry about. At best, she’s a grasshopper in late autumn—her days are numbered. Without Lin Yu, she wouldn’t be able to stir up any trouble.’
Gu Jiaojiao pretended not to notice. She found it more amusing to keep bantering with Elder Xu’s son.
She pointed at Wang Yuting and exclaimed, "Oh my, who are you? You can’t go around making false accusations, you know. I’ve studied for more than just two years..."
Professor Xiao Xu cut Gu Jiaojiao off. "You... You... You’re infuriating!"
His eyes were bloodshot. A tempest seemed to be brewing in their depths, ready to surge at any moment.
Seeing that Gu Jiaojiao had angered Professor Xu into a stutter, Wang Yuting immediately put on a gentle facade. "Professor Xu, you mustn’t let a country bumpkin upset you so much that you fall ill."
"What’s your name?" Professor Xiao Xu asked absently. ’He really shouldn’t have wasted his time coming to the Mu Family’s home today.’
Elder Xu also watched Wang Yuting, waiting for her answer. ’Hmph! How dare she ridicule my Senior Sister? She can just wait to face her wrath.’
Seeing both the father and son of the Xu Family watching her expectantly, Wang Yuting’s vanity was immensely satisfied.
"To answer your question, Professor Xu, Old Mu is my maternal grandfather. I am his granddaughter, Wang Yuting."
Wang Yuting introduced herself haughtily, all while staring at Lin Yu with an infatuated expression. ’He’s so much more outstanding than that cripple, Mu Ziquan.’
’He has such a cold, noble, and extraordinary aura, especially with that devilishly handsome face that looks like the whole world owes him money.’
’Ever since Wang Yuting first saw him, she had been completely bewitched. A single glance was enough to set her soul on fire. He was exactly the kind of man—one with status and power—that she most wanted to marry.’
Enraged by Wang Yuting’s infatuated stare, Lin Yu’s fingers clenched into a fist so tight that the veins on his hand bulged. A dull ache throbbed from his broken rib.
He glanced over at Gu Jiaojiao. ’So beautiful.’ That one look made his heart lurch.
Her smile was like a blazing fire that scorched his heart.
’Even if she was an overly ambitious girl, it didn’t matter. Keeping her around would at least be easy on the eyes, not an absolute eyesore.’
"You’re just some foundling my aunt’s husband took in. My grandfather certainly doesn’t have a granddaughter like you," Mu Ziquan stated bluntly.
He wasn’t usually so sharp, but that changed when he saw the disgusting way Lin Yu was looking at Gu Jiaojiao.
A deep displeasure rose within him, and his expression shifted in an instant. His sharp, eagle-like black eyes suddenly deepened, becoming as vast and bottomless as the ocean.
Everyone thought Mu Ziquan’s sharp gaze was aimed at Wang Yuting, but only Lin Yu knew it was a warning directed at him.
’So it’s not that the girl’s medical skills are any good,’ Lin Yu thought. ’It’s just that Mu Ziquan likes her, so he’s letting her poke him haphazardly with silver needles.’
Believing he had figured out the truth, and with his broken rib throbbing in pain, Lin Yu feigned a gentle tone. "Yuting, let’s go."
"Okay~" Wang Yuting cooed, her voice sickeningly sweet.
"Miss Wang, why don’t you stay a bit longer? I think you have a very bright future," Professor Xiao Xu said. He rather liked humble people.
Unfortunately, Wang Yuting, with her arm linked through Lin Yu’s, walked away without giving him a second glance.
"Dad, I’m leaving too. I have to go home and cook for Yuting and him," Mu Qingtong said, taking her leave as soon as she saw her daughter and future son-in-law depart.
"Go on, then." Old Mu couldn’t wait for his daughter to leave. It wasn’t that he didn’t love her, but she was too simple-minded.
’There were some things his daughter couldn’t know. If she found out, they wouldn’t be secrets for long!’
Gu Jiaojiao sat sipping tea in the Mu Family’s living room. Once the trio had left, she said with a wide grin, "Well now, my dear nephew, you were certainly putting on a show just now!"
Professor Xiao Xu: ...
He shot his father a desperate look, pleading for help, but Elder Xu merely gave him an indifferent glance.
He picked up a pastry from the table and offered it solicitously to Gu Jiaojiao. "Senior Sister, have some more. Don’t waste your breath on that moron."
The moron, Xu Zhong: ... ’So she’s my Senior Aunt?!’
What is life? It’s a club that waits until you think everything is wonderful before smacking you over the head and telling you to wake up.
This sort of thing happens all the time. And so, Xu Zhong was now being brutally clubbed back to reality.
The scene of his own son getting a beating a few days ago was still fresh in his mind, and yet here he was, behaving even more outrageously than his son had...
"Enough eating. All of you, come and watch. I’m going to show you my real skills and make you eat your words."
"Senior Aunt... I..."
"Cut the crap." Gu Jiaojiao’s aura flared to its full intensity, making her seem like a queen about to hold court.
Watching the flustered Xu Zhong, Mr. Mu and Mu Ziquan couldn’t help but let out a rather unkind laugh.
"Jiaojiao, this old man won’t go in to watch. The main reason is I wouldn’t understand any of it anyway. I’ll go to the kitchen and have them prepare a few extra dishes. We’ll have an early dinner tonight."
"Alright. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my Junior Brother, so I’ll take you up on your generous offer and have a meal with him."
"Haha... Excellent! Then I’ll be thick-skinned enough to stay for dinner at this old fellow’s home," Elder Xu boomed with laughter.
Xu Zhong didn’t dare say another word. ’It was all his fault for judging her based on her age. He had let his preconceptions get the better of him.’
Gu Jiaojiao used Golden Needles, a set specially crafted for her by Su Shuochi. When she opened the needle case, it glittered with a brilliant golden light.
She was completely focused as she administered the treatment. The way she held a Golden Needle between three fingers, her precise technique, left Xu Zhong utterly dumbfounded.
After Gu Jiaojiao inserted the last Golden Needle, he sighed in genuine admiration. "Senior Aunt, I could only follow the first ten needles clearly. After that, it was all a blur."
"The fact that you could even follow the first ten needles is already very impressive. As you said, acupuncture requires a solid foundation. It’s clear that yours is quite profound."
Gu Jiaojiao used her Inner Strength to flick the end of a needle. Turning to see Xu Zhong’s worshipful expression, she was struck with a mischievous impulse.
She put on a profound, mysterious expression. "I started practicing with silver needles when I was five, learning from a barefoot doctor in the countryside."
"Back then, we’d practice on the cattle while herding them. And let me tell you, you have no idea how obedient those cows became after I was done with them!"
After hearing his Senior Aunt’s story, Xu Zhong pictured the "obedient" cows and couldn’t help but shiver.
"I’ve never lived in the countryside, but I have visited... and from what I saw, cows aren’t exactly that obedient."
"They aren’t very obedient, no, but they’re no match for my skills. If I tell the herd to go east, they don’t dare go west."
Mu Ziquan, who was covered in Golden Needles, chimed in, "So, my lady, do I look like one of your obedient cows right now?"
"Haha... You’re not allowed to put yourself in their shoes," Gu Jiaojiao laughed, carelessly flicking the end of a needle.
"Ouch!" Mu Ziquan hissed, sucking in a sharp breath from the pain.
While the Mu Family home was filled with laughter, Lin Yu was dragging Wang Yuting away. As soon as they got in the car, he flung her hand off of him.
To make matters worse, Lin Yu claimed his rib had fractured again and unceremoniously dumped Wang Yuting and her mother on the side of the road.
