Chapter 386: Chapter 386: Knocked Out With Eyes Open

With a ferocious snarl, the man roared and pulled the trigger. BANG! Gu Jiaojiao sneered and yanked the seat adjustment lever.

THUD!

The seat shot down, forcing her body into a reclining position.

The metal slug, moving like a flash of light, pierced through the head of the driver in the Jeep to their right.

With his skull pierced, the driver’s muscle memory kept his foot jammed on the accelerator.

The Jeep shot forward like a mad beast, crashing through the guardrail with a loud BANG before plunging off the cliff.

The heavy Jeep, like a falling meteor, plummeted down the chasm, accompanied by a cascade of tumbling rocks.

The scar-faced man in the Jeep to the left was stunned. He stared blankly at the steep mountain road; he’d never seen anything like this in his entire life.

’So this broad led us here on purpose.’ They had just been laughing at her when they first turned onto this mountain road.

’A dame’s a dame, after all. She panicked and drove herself straight into a dead end!’

"Scarface, step on it! We said this would be that broad’s graveyard, but it ended up being our brother’s! You better—"

"Shut up and hold on!" Seeing his partner was about to keep running his mouth, the scar-faced man roared, slamming on the gas and ramming into Gu Jiaojiao’s car.

Gu Jiaojiao’s reflexes were just as fast. She shot upright, cranked the wheel, and rammed the Jeep on the left right back.

Slammed with full force, the side of the other Jeep caved in like plastic. Its windows shattered instantly as it crashed hard against the mountain wall.

The collision left the scar-faced man with a bloody head, while the man in the back was pinned by the crumpled door, unable to move.

Gu Jiaojiao rolled down her window. Staring at the scar-faced man, she curved her red lips into a devastatingly beautiful smile, but her words were merciless.

"When God handed out brains, you must have been holding an umbrella. Who sent you to kill me? This is so pathetic it’s hilarious. Haha..."

Meanwhile, Su Shuochi had already gotten out of the car. Gu Jiaojiao’s brazen laughter infuriated the scar-faced man.

He raised his gun and fired several times. WHOOSH, WHOOSH... None of the shots hit, as Gu Jiaojiao’s car was still rolling forward.

The scar-faced man’s attention was focused entirely on Gu Jiaojiao, while the two thugs in the back were still struggling to sit up.

Su Shuochi, holding a wooden club, knocked the scar-faced man out with a single blow. The two in the back could only watch as the club swung toward their own heads...

They were out before they knew what hit them.

And just like that, the six thugs were easily handled by Gu Jiaojiao and her husband.

Gu Jiaojiao got out of the car and walked over to Su Shuochi. "Dealing with clowns like these really gives me a sense of intellectual superiority."

"Hehe, my Jiaojiao is the greatest. Why don’t you go find a place to turn around up ahead, Jiaojiao? I’ll tie these guys up and we can hand them over to the authorities."

Su Shuochi had barely finished speaking when he heard a car approaching from the base of the mountain. "Jiaojiao, we’ve got more company. Get in the back, I’ll drive."

He was already at the driver’s door as he spoke, with no time to worry about tying up the thugs.

"Alright. You get in, I’ll take the passenger seat." As she spoke, Gu Jiaojiao clambered over into the passenger seat.

Just as Su Shuochi started the engine, Gu Jiaojiao caught sight of a familiar face in the rearview mirror.

"Stop! Stop! Su Shuochi, stop the car! It’s Mr. Han’s grandson!" Gu Jiaojiao yelled excitedly.

Whether it was due to the car’s momentum or Su Shuochi doing it on purpose, the car traveled a good distance before finally coming to a stop.

"Su Shuochi, your driving could use some work," Gu Jiaojiao said, reaching to open her door.

Su Shuochi grabbed her arm. "Jiaojiao," he said sternly, "let’s just wait in the car and see. A familiar face isn’t always a friendly one."

Gu Jiaojiao was speechless.

Seeing his wife staring at him with a blank expression, Su Shuochi quickly changed the subject. "Do you owe him a favor, Jiaojiao?"

"How could I possibly owe him anything? It’s more like they’re the ones who owe me," Gu Jiaojiao said haughtily.

"Since we don’t owe them anything, there’s no need to rush out to greet him, regardless of whether he’s friend or foe. Besides, we were just being hunted."

Su Shuochi said this grimly, but he couldn’t bring himself to look at his wife. He knew he was being a little contemptible and that it was unfair to the Han family’s grandson.

He never trusted anyone easily. His own safety always came first—a vigilance he had maintained for years.

On top of that, he couldn’t stand the thought of her running toward another man. When it came to Gu Jiaojiao and the opposite sex, he had always been incredibly possessive.

PFFT! Gu Jiaojiao let out a wicked laugh and pinched the soft part of Su Shuochi’s thigh.

"You’re always so petty. If you didn’t want me to go over, you could have just said so. Why did you have to slander Mr. Han’s grandson? I almost fell for it."

In truth, she had fallen for it, which was why she now pinched him twice more out of embarrassed frustration.

"Jiaojiao! Comrade Su, Comrade Gu, are you two hurt?" Han Jingshen asked, jogging over to the passenger-side door as soon as he got out of his car.

"Han Jingshen! What are you doing here? We’re fine," Gu Jiaojiao asked, pleasantly surprised. She pretended she had only just noticed him.

"I’ve been on this group’s tail from the front line, following the leads all the way here," Han Jingshen said without hesitation.

Su Shuochi’s brow furrowed. He had been on missions before; this was classified information and shouldn’t be shared so casually.

’This shows how much this man trusts my wife.’ His cold gaze shot toward Han Jingshen.

He said sternly, "Mr. Han, we’ll let you get to it. My wife and I are heading home. We don’t know anything, so don’t ask."

Han Jingshen met his icy stare, then forced a smile. "My lady, it seems your husband here has something against me, doesn’t he?"

"Not at all, not at all. He’s just like that. But he’s right, we really don’t know anything. We were just followed for no reason."

Gu Jiaojiao said awkwardly. ’My husband gets jealous so easily, what can I do!’

"They were likely tracking your husband. We haven’t figured out their motive yet. My lady, you two should head home for now."

’Han Jingshen knew a few things, but since this husband of hers clearly didn’t like him, why should he bother telling him anything!’

’Those people are extremely jealous of the Empire’s top talents. They try to poach them, and if they can’t poach them, they destroy them.’

Su Shuochi drove ahead to find a place to turn around. When he looked back, he saw Han Jingshen’s men had already tied up the scar-faced man and his cronies with swift efficiency.

He gave a curt nod as a greeting, then slammed on the accelerator, leaving Han Jingshen in a cloud of dust.

"Captain, I recognize that man. I think he’s the one they called Zhan Lang a few years ago... Su something."

Han Jingshen’s second-in-command watched Su Shuochi’s car, thinking hard. He’d been on a mission with Su Shuochi before, and his bravery had left a lasting impression.

"What nonsense are you spouting? The legendary Zhan Lang fell two years ago," said a middle-aged executive from the confidentiality bureau.

Han Jingshen glanced at the middle-aged man. ’Someone of his rank shouldn’t have been on this detail, but he had insisted on coming along.’

’They were right, and yet they were wrong.’ But Han Jingshen wasn’t about to tell them that. "Pack it up."

"Yes, sir."
