Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Wedding Invitation
Fu Junyuan looked at his grandfather, who was grinning like a Maitreya Buddha, and then at his own father, who was so smitten he couldn’t tell which way was up.
He glanced at his gloating second aunt, his resentful third aunt, and his fourth uncle, who looked like he had everything under control.
Suddenly, he felt it wouldn’t be so bad if his dad married that troublemaker, Jiang Ruyan. After all, he and his sister had no plans to live at home anyway.
"Since Grandpa, Dad, my two aunts, and Fourth Uncle have no objections, then I have no objections either," Fu Junyuan said with a straight face.
"Good, good. Jun Yuan, I’m so glad you’ve come around. Your father won’t treat you and your siblings unfairly."
Fu Mingyuan patted Fu Junyuan’s shoulder and said excitedly. He had been terrified his children wouldn’t bless his marriage.
"Jun Yuan, Grandpa knows you’ve always been a sensible and smart kid. Grandpa won’t treat any of you unfairly either."
Mr. Fu scanned the room for a moment before saying seriously, "When you get old, all you want is for the family to be in harmony so that everything else can prosper."
"Grandpa, we won’t disappoint you." Fu Junyuan nodded, a cold glint flashing in his eyes before quickly disappearing.
He sneered inwardly. ’You old fox, do you really think I’d be fooled by your sweet talk?!’
Fu Junyuan had been rebellious since he was a child. He had no interest in the family business and hated being tied down more than anything.
In his mind, if there was something he didn’t want to do, no one could force him to make any choice.
Furthermore, in Fu Junyuan’s subconscious, he believed his father, Fu Mingyuan, was an absolute fool for being so easily seduced by a pretty face. He wasn’t fit to inherit the Fu family business at all.
Before, he had hoped his father would make a little more effort, so he could at least leave something for his younger brother and sister.
Now, he was developing his own career with Su Shuochi and Geng Haoyi.
His fourth uncle and his son seemed friendly on the surface, but in reality, they were covetously eyeing the family fortune.
That’s why he had even more disdain for fighting over any part of the Fu family’s assets. Let them tear the place apart in the future.
Fu Junyuan’s reasonableness put Mr. Fu in a great mood, and his spirits lifted even higher.
"Since no one has any objections, it’s settled that Ming Yuan will marry Miss Jiang. Mingxuan, you’re an educated man. Think about how the wedding invitations should be written."
Fu Mingxuan glanced at Fu Junyuan, marveling to himself that his nephew was not only smart but also knew how to be filial to his elders.
He was even willing to compromise on his father marrying a stepmother. If it were his own son and daughter, they would surely raise hell!
Especially this little rascal—his relationship with his own son was so much better than with his other cousins.
Fu Mingxuan’s gaze involuntarily shifted to Xiao Yuling beside him, his expression flickering with uncertainty.
"Dad, I’m not very good at writing invitations either. Let’s leave it to Yuling," Fu Mingxuan said with a smile, passing the hot potato to his wife, Xiao Yuling.
Xiao Yuling’s cheeks flushed under Fu Mingxuan’s intense gaze, and she felt bashful.
"Dad, Mingxuan, I... I don’t have much experience either," Xiao Yuling said, biting her lip. She wasn’t a fool; she knew she had to pass the buck.
"Mingxuan, Yuling, this is about your big brother’s future happiness. You two should stop being so modest," Mr. Fu urged.
Fu Mingyuan chimed in, "Yes, Dad’s right. Mingxuan, you two have to help your big brother. I truly want to marry Ru Yan."
"Dad, Big Brother, in my opinion, we should leave this to Jun Yuan. He’s been brilliant since he was a kid," Fu Mingxuan said with a radiant smile.
"That’s... not a good idea, is it?" Fu Mingyuan said, still showing a sliver of conscience.
"Big Brother, what are you talking about? Jun Yuan has had tons of friends since he was a kid. Who knows, maybe he can write an invitation that will be remembered for the ages, haha..."
Fu Mingyue let out a malicious laugh. The Fu family had good genes; the younger generation was all handsome.
Although the Xia family’s genes weren’t bad either, her son just couldn’t compare to Fu Junyuan in looks.
Her son was two years younger than Fu Junyuan and a bit on the chubby side. Even as his mother, she had to admit that of the two boys, Jun Yuan was better looking.
She often compared the two cousins, and the more she did, the more she disliked this motherless nephew of hers.
"Jun Yuan, do you know any friends who are good at writing invitations?" Mr. Fu asked, also full of expectation.
Fu Junyuan stared coldly at everyone without a word. They were actually pressuring him like this.
He had already agreed to compromise, but his fourth uncle and second aunt refused to let him off the hook, even egging on his grandfather and his fool of a father.
His gaze was so cold it felt like it could freeze everyone solid in an instant, and then shatter them into pieces.
Fu Mingxuan was inwardly stunned. ’Since when did this devil-may-care nephew of his have such a sharp aura!’
Just as a sense of alarm rose in his heart, he heard Fu Junyuan speak with a cheeky, almost embarrassed grin.
"Heh heh, I do have a lot of shady friends. It’s getting late now, so how about I give them a call tomorrow and ask?"
Fu Mingxuan patted his chest. ’So I was just overthinking things, seeing things. What could a playboy like him possibly be capable of.’
He chimed in with a brilliant smile, "Dad, Jun Yuan is right. It’s late. Jun Yuan will definitely get it handled tomorrow. Why don’t we all head back to our rooms and sleep?"
"Alright, everyone go back and rest. Jun Yuan will be in charge of the invitations, and the banquet will be handled by Mingxuan and his wife."
Mr. Fu had spoken. Everyone returned to their rooms to sleep. The two Fu family daughters had their own rooms in the house.
As Fu Junlong was leaving, he gave Fu Junyuan a deep look. Although he was a high school senior...
...his father had taught him since he was young to study hard and not grow up to be a good-for-nothing playboy like his eldest cousin.
But he had seen his cousin driving a car that was much nicer than his maternal uncle’s. He just didn’t dare tell his father, for fear of getting scolded.
「Early the next morning.」
Su Shuochi woke up feeling refreshed and energetic. He made breakfast and called for his girl to get up, eat, and go to school.
"Honey, your classes officially start today, right?"
"There shouldn’t be any classes today, but we have to go to the classroom. It’s probably for everyone in class to get to know each other, elect class officers, that sort of thing."
"I don’t want to be class president, so I’m not going to school today. I’m going to the hospital later to help Mu Ziquan with his check-up."
"Oh. Well, you must be hungry. Ready to get up and eat breakfast now?" Su Shuochi asked, even as he was already pulling her out of bed.
Gu Jiaojiao was exhausted, but she knew her man was just worried about her going hungry. "Mhm, I’ll go soak in the hot spring for a bit, then come downstairs."
"Okay, let’s go together."
"Get lost."
Feeling refreshed and energetic, Gu Jiaojiao came downstairs to see Su Shuochi on the phone. When he saw her, he called out excitedly, "Jiaojiao, come here, quick."
Gu Jiaojiao took the phone her husband thrust at her and heard Fu Junyuan rambling on, recounting everything that had happened at the Fu family home last night.
He made himself sound as pitiful as could be!
At the end, he was practically begging miserably from the other end of the line, "Sister-in-law, please, you have to help me."
Gu Jiaojiao felt a stir of pity. She recalled the wedding invitations she had received in her past life, picked out the one she liked most, and recited it into the phone.
"The auspicious time has been set, and the joyous day awaits. We have prepared a humble banquet to thank our dear friends. The groom, Fu Mingyuan, and the bride, Jiang Ruyan, together with our parents, sincerely invite you to attend our wedding banquet."
