Chapter 341: Chapter 341: Unintentionally Flaunting Wealth

Su Shuochi, the man whom Second Uncle Gu and Auntie Gu were scheming of ninety-nine ways to kill, was currently busy dotingly placing food onto his wife’s plate.

"Shuo Ci, don’t just put food on Jiaojiao’s plate. You should eat more yourself."

Mrs. Gu saw that her daughter’s bowl was piled high like a small mountain. She picked up the serving chopsticks and placed a piece of food into Su Shuochi’s bowl.

"Thank you, Mom..." Su Shuochi said gratefully.

"My mom’s right, you should eat more too. Here, this is your favorite braised pork trotter."

Taking a moment from her own busy eating, Gu Jiaojiao picked up a large piece of pork trotter and put it in Su Shuochi’s bowl.

"Mm, you eat, honey."

The couple acted as if no one else was around, placing food on each other’s plates and whispering sweet nothings. The loving, sweet scene actually boosted everyone’s appetite.

Watching his wife put food on his plate, Su Shuochi couldn’t help but reveal a doting expression.

As a military man, he had always eaten like a whirlwind sweeping away clouds. But ever since he started eating with his wife...

...he had slowed down. He discovered that eating slowly, savoring each bite with the person he loved, was actually a refreshingly pleasant experience.

"Take your time. After we finish eating, I’ll be the one to tell your father and the others about moving."

Hearing this, Gu Jiaojiao’s gaze flickered evasively. "Of course you’re the one to tell them."

"Jiaojiao, what secrets are you two whispering about?" Grandpa Gu asked quickly when he saw his granddaughter’s eyes dart toward him.

"N-Nothing." Gu Jiaojiao stammered, feeling a bit guilty.

Mr. Gu glanced at Su Shuochi, then at Gu Jiaojiao, and then spoke with a chuckle.

Then he looked at his eldest son, who was busy shoveling food into his mouth, and cursed the idiot in his head.

’I really don’t get how his brain works. He has such a wonderful, capable, and filial younger sister, but he doesn’t appreciate her.’

’Instead, he insists on pining for that Sheng Yueyue, who’s nothing but schemes and petty-mindedness.’

Eldest Brother Gu was enjoying his meal and didn’t understand why his dad was glaring at him. Without a second thought, he immediately placed a piece of fatty meat into Gu Jiaojiao’s bowl.

Gu Jiaojiao was speechless.

’What’s gotten into my brother now?’ She never ate fatty meat.

"Eldest Brother, you eat it. Jiaojiao already has more than enough food in her bowl." Su Shuochi said, his face dark, as he picked up the piece of fatty meat and returned it to Eldest Brother Gu’s bowl.

"Shuo Ci must have something to tell us. Just say what’s on your mind, there are no outsiders here."

Seeing Su Shuochi’s unhappy expression, Mr. Gu quickly changed the subject.

"Grandpa, Dad, Mom, please take your time eating. I’ll talk after everyone’s finished."

Su Shuochi quickly used the serving chopsticks to place a piece of food on each of the three elders’ plates.

"Shuo Ci, is your and Jiaojiao’s house ready?" Grandpa Gu asked.

"Yes, Jiaojiao and I have discussed it. We’d like to move in right after lunch today."

Su Shuochi replied respectfully, a sweet smile on his face.

"Shuo Ci, are you two really planning to move out today?" Mrs. Gu asked, unable to hide her reluctance.

"Yes, Mom. You and Dad can come over to our place for meals anytime," Su Shuochi invited warmly.

"Alright, since you’ve both decided, go ahead and move. But you have to come back for dinner every weekend, you hear?"

"Mm... we will. Grandpa, you all can come to our place for meals too," Gu Jiaojiao added from the side.

"Of course! We’ll definitely go," Grandpa Gu agreed happily.

"Then... Grandpa, you all continue eating. Jiaojiao and I will go upstairs to pack our things first.

Su Shuochi put down his bowl and chopsticks, said a word to Grandpa Gu, and was about to wheel himself upstairs.

"Shu Ci, you chat with Grandpa and the others for a bit. I can go pack by myself."

In the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Gu Jiaojiao had finished packing.

The couple left directly by car, taking Geng Haoyi, Han Jingyi, and Xiao Rui with them.

As soon as they left, the lively atmosphere in the Gu Family home immediately quieted down. Grandpa Gu and the others saw them all the way to the courtyard gate.

"Dad, don’t tell me Second Uncle’s family has been saying things again?" Mrs. Gu asked as she stood at the courtyard gate, watching her daughter and son-in-law leave.

She heard a scornful, gloating snicker and looked up to see Auntie Gu and her daughter on the neighboring balcony.

"Shuo Ci and Jiaojiao aren’t the types to be afraid of trouble. No one can influence them, least of all Second Uncle’s wife."

Grandpa Gu didn’t lower his voice, so the mother and daughter standing on the second floor heard him clearly.

"Grandpa, Eldest Uncle, Eldest Aunt, Jiaojiao and the others are long gone. What are you still staring at the gate for?"

Gu Hehua said with a strange, sarcastic tone from her family’s second-floor balcony. Auntie Gu was still a little afraid of Grandpa Gu, so she remained silent.

Her voice had barely faded when Grandpa Gu’s furious roar followed, "What do you know? Don’t you realize your cousin and her husband are moving into a new house? They’re moving into a villa, you know!"

"A villa?" Gu Hehua sneered. "They’re just country bumpkins. Where would they get that kind of money?"

"They earned it themselves! Our Jiaojiao and Shuo Ci are very capable people. They’re excellent at making money."

Gu Hehua pouted and said, "Grandpa, you’re so biased. My cousin’s husband is the one who earns the money, so why are you giving all the credit to Jiaojiao? Is it really right for you to say that?"

Hearing Gu Hehua’s complaint only made Grandpa Gu more smug. He glared fiercely at her and said,

"How am I biased? Shuo Ci said it himself: what’s his is Jiaojiao’s, and what’s Jiaojiao’s is still Jiaojiao’s."

Grandpa Gu had been in a bad mood, but now he started bickering childishly with his second granddaughter. His proud expression, as if their glory was his own, made Auntie Gu so angry she could have fallen over backward.

She turned and glared at her daughter. "The farther away they go, the better, I say. It saves me from having to look at them."

"Lin Qiuyue, what nonsense are you spouting? Where my daughter and son-in-law live is none of your damn business!" Mrs. Gu shot back, practically jumping in anger.

"Can’t I even speak in my own home? You’re overstepping your bounds, Sister-in-law."

Mrs. Gu wanted to say more, but Mr. Gu pulled her back. "Yue Hua, watch your health. Jiaojiao said you shouldn’t get angry so easily."

"Hmph. So delicate." Auntie Gu sneered viciously as she watched her eldest brother pull her sister-in-law away.

Gu Hehua saw that her mother was truly angry, so she just pouted and turned to leave.

In that last glance, she had clearly seen killing intent filling her mother’s eyes.

’Does Mom want me to kill that crippled son-in-law from Eldest Uncle’s family?’ Gu Hehua wondered.

She also couldn’t stand the way her grandpa and eldest uncle acted, throwing their weight around just because they had powerful connections.

’If that cousin-in-law of hers weren’t a cripple, she would have stolen him for herself. What a shame. Oh well, she’d just have to let her mom kill him.’

Gu Hehua considered herself very beautiful. While not a nation-toppling beauty, she was still a pretty young woman.

Gu Jiaojiao, of course, had no idea what had just happened at the Gu family’s gate after they left.

The moment she entered her new home, she went straight to her small laboratory. She needed to use the spiritual spring water to make more medicine pills.

Su Shuochi, on the other hand, instructed Geng Haoyi to go buy groceries. He was preparing to cook dinner for everyone, as their first meal in the new house.

Han Jingyi and Xiao Rui rolled up their sleeves to help him out. They were stunned to see the Su’s kitchen was already stocked with all sorts of grains.

"Sir, why did you buy so much rice and flour at once? And it’s the high-quality rice from the Overseas Chinese Store, too!"

"We haven’t bought any rice containers yet, and the bags looked sturdy, so I just bought one of each," Su Shuochi said, inadvertently showing off his wealth.
