Chapter 331: Chapter 331: What She Hates Most

Seeing Gu Jiaojiao’s hurry to leave, a faint smile touched Mu Ziquan’s lips, but a wave of bitterness rippled deep in his eyes. It was a long moment before he spoke.

"Boss, take care. When will you bring your husband for a meal?"

"Of course. I’ve been treating you for quite a while now. We’ll definitely have a chance to eat together."

"Jiaojiao, this old man can see you’re eager to get home, so I won’t keep you. I’ll have a car send you back."

Old Mu was reluctant to see Gu Jiaojiao go, mainly because he was afraid his grandson would suddenly have an episode.

"Grandpa Mu, don’t you worry about our Boss. We’ll protect her."

"Grandpa Mu, I’ll take our Boss home. My grandpa said we should stay by her side for the next few days."

Han Jingyi and Xiao Rui said in unison, then stood on either side of Gu Jiaojiao.

"Old Mu, Mu Ziquan, see you tomorrow. Call me if there’s an emergency. This is my family’s phone number."

Gu Jiaojiao stuffed a slip of paper with a few numbers written on it into Old Sir Han’s hand and hurried away.

Mu Ziquan stared blankly at their retreating figures for a moment. "Grandpa, let’s go too. What are you looking at?"

Old Mu: ’...Weren’t you the one staring?’

Su Shuochi saw that the rooms in their house had also been painted white. "Haoyi, Fu Junyuan, thank you for your hard work today. It’s getting late, I should be heading back."

"Su, are we going to buy furniture tomorrow?" Fu Junyuan asked, looking at the empty room.

"Yes, but I won’t trouble you two tomorrow. Jiaojiao and I can go by ourselves."

Geng Haoyi drove, Fu Junyuan sat in the passenger seat, and Su Shuochi was in the back. As the car approached the main gate of the Gu Family’s home, it was blocked by a few young men.

"Well, well, if it isn’t you guys again! Looking for another fight?" Fu Junyuan taunted them as he rolled down the window.

"Big Bro, we don’t want to fight anymore. From now on, we just want to follow you guys," one of the young men said earnestly.

"Then go wait by the side of the road," Su Shuochi’s icy voice rang out.

The young men obediently moved to the side of the road. Geng Haoyi slammed the accelerator, and the car roared past them.

The young men: ’...They’re truly worthy of our admiration.’

"Boss, no way. Didn’t Su tell them to wait by the road?" Fu Junyuan’s eyes widened as he questioned Geng Haoyi.

"Didn’t you see our big boss is eager to get home?" Geng Haoyi and Su Shuochi had been partners back in the military. A single look was all they needed to understand each other.

"I think those young punks have potential. Fu Junyuan, from now on, you train them properly. They could become useful helpers for us." Su Shuochi’s voice was cool. He had no intention of training them himself; he already had a large group of helpers in Qing City.

"Me?"

"Mhm. Pick a few of the quick-witted ones and have them learn about building construction. We’ll form a construction team eventually."

Su Shuochi always remembered what his wife had said: for the next few decades, real estate development would be a consistently good business.

He went on to explain some specific directions and details, and Fu Junyuan listened, completely captivated.

When the car arrived at the Gu Family’s gate, he was still wanting more. "Su, why’d you stop talking?"

Whoa! Su had already gotten out of the car!

He saw the back of Su Shuochi sitting in his wheelchair and grumbled inwardly, ’Su’s obviously better, so why is he still using a wheelchair?’

Geng Haoyi, however, stood behind Su Shuochi and said softly, "Su, we were busy all afternoon, so I forgot to tell you earlier.

"When we were eating, I saw Jiang Ruyan sitting not far from us. Do you think she’s the one who sent those punks?"

"You’re sure you saw her?" Su Shuochi confirmed, though in his heart, he already believed it.

"I’m sure. She used to try and marry you by leveraging her uncle’s connections, so I’ve always kept an eye on her."

"Ask those young guys later if she’s the one who sent them. I’m going in first."

After speaking, Su Shuochi started pushing his wheelchair toward the Gu Family’s gate. SCREECH. A car stopped right beside him.

"Su Shuochi, you just got back too?" Gu Jiaojiao’s cheerful voice rang out.

"Jiaojiao, you’re back so late. You must have had a long day," Su Shuochi’s voice was gentle and clear.

Geng Haoyi: ’...Could you be any more obvious?!’

As they spoke, Gu Jiaojiao got out of the car and skillfully took the wheelchair from Geng Haoyi’s hands.

"Geng Haoyi, you’ve been with Shu Ci all day, haven’t you? Come in and have dinner before you go."

"Sister-in-law, I still have something to do, so I won’t go in to see Uncle Gu and the others today. I’ll be sure to pay a formal visit another day."

"Alright then. If you’re busy, you should go take care of it. We’re going in to eat," Gu Jiaojiao said with a wide smile.

"Okay. Su, Sister-in-law, take care." Geng Haoyi watched Gu Jiaojiao’s retreating figure, lost in thought.

To outsiders, Gu Jiaojiao seemed like a sweet, well-behaved, and harmless girl-next-door.

She didn’t look capable or dangerous in the slightest, which was extremely deceptive.

This persona was her most deceptive trait, allowing her to project an air of harmlessness to strangers.

In truth, this was also Gu Jiaojiao’s true nature. In her past life, she had focused solely on her studies, and later immersed herself in medical research.

She rarely had the chance to interact with strangers. No one can succeed without effort.

Successful people put in far more effort than ordinary people, and she was someone who had reached the pinnacle of the medical world one step at a time.

’I finally got a cheat-like magical space, but I died before I even got to enjoy it!’

"Boss, get in the car! What are you still looking at?" Fu Junyuan had already moved into the driver’s seat.

"Have you noticed? Sister-in-law and Su are a really good match," Geng Haoyi asked as soon as he got in the car.

"They are a great match! Last time in Qing City, I actually thought our Su wasn’t good enough for her! Now that his legs are better, he’s a perfect match for Sister-in-law."

Fu Junyuan said cheerfully. He had always been the type to judge a book by its cover.

Geng Haoyi shook his head and didn’t say anything more. This sister-in-law of his was far more complex than she appeared.

According to his dad, if he hadn’t met Gu Jiaojiao back then, his father would have been six feet under long ago.

It was only after a hospital check-up that he learned just how severe his father’s injuries had been.

Gu Jiaojiao pushed Su Shuochi’s wheelchair, chattering away about what she had been up to all day.

Su Shuochi listened intently, asking a question once in a while. He wasn’t used to talking much when he was out.

"Well, well, the cripple is out on the streets?" Auntie Gu muttered sarcastically from her doorway.

Su Shuochi didn’t even spare her a glance. People who tried so hard to be noticed were truly unpleasant.

If it weren’t for what Geng Haoyi had just told him, Su Shuochi might have decided to cause trouble for her.

Just because Su Shuochi didn’t bother with her didn’t mean Gu Jiaojiao wouldn’t. She hated it most when people hurt those she cared about.

"Shu Ci, look, my dad even has a guard dog at his gate. It wags its tail to greet us every time we come back."

Her previously sullen expression was once again replaced by a smile. Her already bright and beautiful face was exceptionally sweet, but this smile made even the small flowers nearby lose their color.

"You... What are you talking about?" Auntie Gu pointed at Gu Jiaojiao, trembling with uncontrollable rage.
