Chapter 313: Chapter 313: Deliberately Causing Trouble

After Su Shuochi adjusted his seat and buckled his seatbelt, he glanced at the passenger seat to see his wife already buckled in.

He prepared to start the car, but the moment his foot touched the accelerator, the vehicle shot forward, making him jump in his seat.

He had assumed this car, like the ones he was used to driving, required him to stomp on the gas pedal.

No words could describe his embarrassment. "Heh... Honey, this car of yours from the future isn’t just luxurious on the inside."

"The driver-assist systems and the power are both incredible. Especially the turbocharged engine—the pickup is just unreal."

"Su Shuochi, you’re so brilliant. You understand all of this. Given time, I’m sure you’ll develop a car with even better performance."

Gu Jiaojiao didn’t tease him, just turned her head to gaze at Su Shuochi.

Her loving eyes sparkled, brimming with a sweetness so thick you could practically wring it out like honey.

Her look of admiration was so genuine it made Su Shuochi believe he really was that brilliant. His heart swelled with sweetness, and his confidence soared.

The truth was, he had always worried that his wife was more exceptional than him and that he might never catch up to her, no matter how hard he tried.

Having such an exceptional wife made him both anxious and overjoyed.

"Su Shuochi, you’re so handsome when you smile. I’ve noticed you’re smiling more and more these days. Experts say people who smile a lot tend to have good luck."

"I don’t need an expert to tell me that people who smile have good luck. People with bad luck can’t bring themselves to smile."

"Well, well, Su Shuochi! Not only are you a scientist, but you have the potential to be a literary man, too!"

"I don’t care what I become. Just remember, I’m your man," he said, turning to look at her with deep affection.

He was, after all, far more capable than the average person. He quickly mastered the Land Rover’s handling, driving so steadily that he could even turn his head to talk.

Though the couple usually appeared cold and aloof in front of others, in private they had endless topics to discuss, their conversation flowing nonstop.

The Su Shuochi of the past didn’t understand emotions. He hadn’t even believed he was capable of developing strong feelings for anyone.

He had never even experienced a flicker of attraction toward a woman; no, he wasn’t even willing to spare one a second glance.

Whenever someone tried to set him up on a date, the thought of spending the rest of his life with a woman made him feel nothing but resistance.

Immediately, any goodwill he had for the matchmaker would be reduced to mere professional obligation; they just became someone who was making trouble for him.

But ever since he’d been forced into this marriage, having a wife changed everything.

Her presence only made him feel happy. His mood would lift just from looking at her.

As they approached the site, Gu Jiaojiao had Su Shuochi switch to the passenger seat, and she drove the car directly inside.

The couple had just stepped out of the car when they heard a piercing female shriek. "Ms. Lili, how could you say that about Wenxuan?"

"Siya, what did I say about him?" Xi Li asked, looking up in confusion.

When she saw her younger cousin glaring at her furiously, Xi Li’s heart sank. ’This is bad,’ she thought.

’Did my cousin overhear my conversation with Wenxuan just now?!’

"Ms. Lili, stop playing dumb! You’re trying to provoke Wenxuan on purpose, aren’t you? You don’t even like him, so why are you treating him this way?"

Tears streamed down Xi Siya’s face as she spoke, her sobs full of grievance.

Xi Li’s heart sank. She knew her cousin’s temperament; although she had been spoiled and willful since they were children,

she wouldn’t throw a tantrum for no reason. ’Wen Wenxuan must have said something to her,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, she wouldn’t be like this.’

’That Wen Wenxuan is nothing but a scoundrel in scholarly robes, deliberately driving a wedge between me and my cousin.’

"Siya, it’s precisely because I don’t like Wen Wenxuan that I wanted to make things clear with him—" Xi Li began to explain, but Xi Siya interrupted her.

"Still trying to lie to me? I heard your conversation with Wenxuan with my own ears. Don’t try to deny it."

Xi Li frowned at her words. "Siya, you misunderstood. It’s not what you think you heard. Wen Wenxuan and I are really just ordinary friends."

Xi Siya sobbed, her voice choked with tears. "You two were childhood sweethearts, practically inseparable! What do you mean, ’ordinary friends’?"

’She knew her cousin didn’t like Wenxuan anymore, but Wenxuan had just been shamelessly pleading with her. What right did she have to reject him?’

’The eldest son of the Wen family doesn’t get involved in their affairs, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to research. That means Wenxuan could become the next Family Head.’

’She had liked Wen Wenxuan for five years, but unfortunately, her father was the second son of the Xi Family and couldn’t help Wenxuan’s ambitions.’

’For the sake of getting help from her uncle, Wenxuan had to swallow his pride and curry favor with that idiot Xi Li.’

Xi Siya wiped her tears and glared at her cousin with a wounded expression. "Ms. Lili, why do you have to lie?"

Whimpering, she tried to shove Xi Li, but she lost her balance and stumbled forward, knocking over a great deal of lab equipment in the process.

"This is not a fish market! Whatever your business is, get out and settle it elsewhere. Don’t cause a scene here."

Su Shuochi’s furious roar was like a clap of thunder. The chaotic scene instantly soured whatever good mood he’d been in.

He was usually as cold as an ice cellar, never speaking a single unnecessary word.

Xi Siya, still on the floor, looked up and saw the man in the wheelchair. He was breathtakingly handsome.

His features were as sharp and distinct as a sculpture, his angular face unusually handsome, but the unintentional chill that emanated from his eyes was enough to make one’s scalp tingle.

Beneath a pair of sword-like eyebrows were fierce eyes that could scare a person out of their wits.

’So this is the disabled man who has Wen Qing head over heels?’

’He certainly had the looks to back it up. If she could, she would give up Wenxuan and throw herself at his wheelchair.’

"Comrade Su, these are two of the Xi Family’s younger members. They’re just playing around, don’t mind them," Wen Wenxuan said with a grin.

He had brought Xi Siya here on purpose to cause trouble, because his older brother, Wen Wenjin, was conducting experiments here.

His parents had always thought highly of his older brother, and now they doted on him even more just because he was studying medical device research with Su Shuochi.

The production facility that Su Shuochi and his team had applied for had even been approved by the state.

Somehow, without him even knowing, they had already partnered with the state. The revelation was incredible, and jealousy instantly flared within him.

He’d learned all of this from his younger sister, Wen Qing, and couldn’t help but think, ’What right did that bookworm Wen Wenjin have to be so lucky?’

So, he had deliberately brought Xi Siya to the site and secretly confessed his feelings to Xi Li, making sure Xi Siya would overhear.

Sure enough, that idiot Xi Siya had gone off like a lit firecracker, causing a huge scene.

The best-case scenario would be for the argument to get so bad that Su Shuochi’s team would kick Wen Wenjin out. Unfortunately, that bookworm Wen Wenjin hadn’t emerged from the laboratory.

Seeing how exceptional Su Shuochi was, Wen Wenxuan couldn’t help but feel a pang of bitter rivalry—the classic lament of a genius overshadowed by an even greater one.

’Why does a monster like Su Shuochi even exist in this world?’

"And who might you be? Why are you here? Don’t come back in the future. This is not a place for you to be causing trouble."

Su Shuochi’s black eyes were bottomless pits. His gaze toward Wen Wenxuan was like a blade of ice, piercing straight into his heart.
